Chapter 866: No Matter What, I Have to Try
Chapter 866: No Matter What, I Have to Try
Chang Danran understood only half of it, but it didn’t stop her from grasping Si Mingjing’s intention.
She said, "Okay, I understand. Can’t you come to the nephrology department and give a lecture, even if we, as Western doctors, don’t understand? It’s still good to learn more about traditional Chinese medicine for treating illnesses."
Chang Danran was still unwilling to give up, as nephrologists like them often encountered patients with severe kidney failure like Madam Liang, who couldn’t undergo dialysis. Faced with such patients, they were often helpless and felt inadequate.
When they were at their wits’ end, this niece-in-law managed to turn the tide for Madam Liang in just a few days. Chang Danran, along with the doctors in the department, wanted to learn more methods for treating kidney failure patients.
"Mingjing, can you reconsider, or perhaps prepare some emergency prescriptions for us? What do you think?"
Unable to resist the earnest request, Si Mingjing, knowing she needed something from them as well, cautiously said: "Alright, I’ll first organize the lecture content, and then prepare some emergency prescriptions if they indeed provide you with some inspiration."
Chang Danran smiled broadly: "Mingjing, let me know when you’re ready, and I’ll arrange it."
"Alright."
Si Mingjing stood up to leave, and Chang Danran saw her out.
They had just reached the office door and hadn’t opened it yet when it was pushed open from the outside. An elegantly dressed elderly lady with bright red lipstick swept in briskly.
Chang Danran recognized the visitor and said, "Mom, what brings you here?"
The lady said, "I’m here to buy medicine. I’m out of my hypertension pills. Who’s this young lady... Is this Yinhe’s wife?"
Chang Danran nodded: "Yes, she is Si Mingjing."
The old lady sized up Si Mingjing with a surprised look and introduced herself, "I’m Yinhe’s real grandmother. You should call me grandma, just like Yinhe does. I heard you’re good at medicine, so you can check my pulse."
Si Mingjing was slightly taken aback as Mo Yinhe had never mentioned this grandmother.
If she was the real grandmother...
Wouldn’t that mean it’s her mother-in-law’s biological mom?
She had heard her mother-in-law wasn’t treated well by her biological parents, having been abandoned at sea to fend for herself at the tender age of six. After she grew up, she publicly severed ties with them in the newspapers.
So, there should be no contact, right?
Otherwise, as her real grandmother, it’s impossible not to see her during festivals, or for Si Yuan’s wedding not to invite her.
Si Mingjing smiled slightly but said nothing.
If she presumptuously called this person "grandmother," wouldn’t it be slapping her mother-in-law in the face?
Besides, she and her mother-in-law were as close as mother and daughter.
Chang Danran stepped in to help: "Mom, Mingjing still has something to do. Mingjing, if you’re in a hurry, go ahead and leave."
Si Mingjing had a calm expression and nodded: "Alright."
Si Mingjing took a step forward to leave, but the old lady grabbed her arm: "Wait! How can you be so rude? I’m your elder, and you don’t even know basic manners?"
Si Mingjing looked down at the old lady’s grip on her arm, frowned slightly, and curved her lips without speaking.
The old lady assumed her imposing presence had subdued Si Mingjing and said, "You’re just a girl from another planet who hasn’t even been to elementary school. You got noticed by my grandson with your medical skills, and now you think you’re some sort of phoenix? I’m telling you, Mrs. Chen is my longtime friend, and she’s so sick now. You must treat her!"
A dark glint flashed in Si Mingjing’s eyes. It turned out the old lady wasn’t just passing by, but specifically waiting here to confront her. The Chen family must have appealed to this old lady, who intended to use her seniority?
"Mom, it’s not that Mingjing is unwilling to help Mrs. Chen. It’s just that Mrs. Chen didn’t trust Mingjing’s medical skills previously. A few days ago, I invited Mingjing to see her, and Mrs. Chen threw her out."
Chang Danran also felt annoyed with her mother-in-law and explained before signaling Si Mingjing to leave quickly.
Si Mingjing didn’t move a bit. She fiddled with her ring phone and quickly dialed a number.
She put it on speaker, and Ye Xinguang’s gentle, loving voice came through the phone: "Mingjing."
The old lady’s breath hitched upon hearing the voice from the phone, glaring at Si Mingjing with hostility.
"Mom." Si Mingjing glanced at the old lady and then spoke into the phone, "I’m in A Country, and I’ve encountered an elderly lady claiming to be Yinhe’s real grandmother, lecturing me on respecting the old and caring for the young. Do you know this person?"
On the other end of the phone, there was silence for a few seconds, then the voice suddenly turned cold: "What real grandmother? I don’t know her! Yinhe’s grandmother is in Yecheng with me. Where else would there be another grandmother?"
Ye Xinguang’s adoptive parents live in Yecheng and stay with her.
Si Mingjing pretended to suddenly realize and said, "Oh, it turns out she’s an impostor. Madam, did you hear that? My mom said grandmother is in Yecheng, so who are you?"
"You, you!" The old lady couldn’t believe it. Si Mingjing dared to be so bold.
She thought, being from another planet, with no education or background, now married to her grandson and stepmother to several children, she would surely be good at currying favor with the family, only to find a steel warrior who even called her mother for this situation!
The old lady yelled into the phone, "I am your mother!"
"Heh..." came Ye Xinguang’s cold laugh from the phone.
Guessing that her daughter-in-law was being troubled, Ye Xinguang said, "Mingjing, Yinhe only has one grandmother. In the future, if anyone else pretends to be her grandmother, you don’t need to pay attention. Have you had lunch yet?"
It was almost noon, and Ye Xinguang showed concern for her daughter-in-law.
Si Mingjing felt warmth in her heart and said, "I’m about to go check out some stores with Yinhe. I’ve been at leisure in A Country, and exploring new stores every noon is my favorite pastime. He’s waiting for me at the hospital entrance. I just finished chatting with my aunt in her office when this elderly lady suddenly showed up, claiming to be Yinhe’s grandmother. I haven’t met her, so I called to ask you, Mom."
Si Mingjing explained the situation over the phone.
Ye Xinguang knew for certain that she was being harassed.
"Your dad and I will come to A Country the day after tomorrow, to take care of Si Yuan. Go ahead, don’t keep Yinhe waiting. If you discover any good restaurants, let me know so I can try them too."
"Okay."
Si Mingjing spoke as she walked out of the office, waving goodbye to Chang Danran: "Aunt, I’m leaving. Please don’t forget the matter I asked you about."
Chang Danran nodded.
The old lady still wanted to follow, but was stopped by two guards who approached. The guards were tall and imposing, their aura formidable, glaring at the old lady who was so frightened she immediately hid behind her daughter-in-law.
