Chapter 472: Ye Jingzhe: I’ve Got Your Back from Now On! 1

Si Mingjing repeated, "Mo Yinhe, Si Lisao is my brother!"

This solemn tone indicated something significant about her life. Mo Yinhe fell silent and made no more sarcastic remarks. After a while, just when Si Mingjing thought he had angrily hung up, she heard his puzzled voice, "Baby, are you hiding something from me?"

Si Mingjing was at a loss for words.

"Are you hiding something from me?" Mo Yinhe’s puzzled, deep voice shifted to a tone of certainty as he pondered.

If she weren’t hiding something from him, she wouldn’t have stated so definitively that Si Lisao was her brother. What factual basis was that statement built upon?

His baby, despite having acknowledged Si Lisao as her brother, had always been indifferent towards him. Now, however, she was starting to grow closer to him. Mo Yinhe’s possessiveness flared, making him uneasy. He selfishly wished her world revolved solely around him, devoid of other complicated relationships.

Si Mingjing opened her mouth as if to speak, but ultimately swallowed her words.

"Tell me, Baby." He didn’t call her Mingjing, but "Baby," his voice exceptionally tender and caressing, as if coaxing her.

Si Mingjing finally spoke, her voice low. "Do you remember the box I retrieved from Chen Fengdu? It contained Dragon Spit Pearls. These Dragon Spit Pearls hold my memories. I ate a few, and now I’ve recalled some past memories. I’m certain Si Lisao is my brother. Yinhe, I’ve always envied Si Yuan for having such a loving older brother. I’ve always been someone starved for affection, craving familial love. I, too, wish I had an older brother..."

Mo Yinhe detected a faint plea in her voice. He had always understood her longing for familial love.

"Baby, I’ve been too selfish."

Mo Yinhe suddenly grew introspective, an undeniable sigh escaping him. "I want to monopolize you—to be your love, your family, and your friend. Even now, I’m reluctant to acknowledge Si Lisao as my brother-in-law. But if this is what you desire, I will try to accept him."

He quickly regained his composure, his voice as gentle as flowing water. "As long as you’re happy."

Si Mingjing’s eyes moistened. Why did he have to make me so emotional over such a simple matter?

"What do you remember? Are there any memories of me?" Mo Yinhe’s interest in the Dragon Spit Pearls piqued, and he grew even more jealous that Si Lisao featured in her memories!

Si Mingjing didn’t tell him, instead smiling teasingly. "It’s a secret. Once I’ve remembered everything, I’ll tell you."

Mo Yinhe was not satisfied, his voice turning threatening. "Tell me, or I’ll swallow all your Dragon Spit Pearls today. I’m not joking."

What a petty man! Si Mingjing thought, rolling her eyes internally.

"Mostly, they’re about our passionate romance, with other people occasionally appearing. Satisfied now?"

Mo Yinhe laughed heartily. "That’s more like it! What specifically?"

Si Mingjing didn’t answer, simply hanging up to stop him from getting too smug.

Mo Yinhe sent a WeChat message, his tone feigning arrogance. "You’ve got some nerve, hanging up on me!"

"So what if I did?" she retorted in a voice message, equally feigning arrogance.

Mo Yinhe couldn’t resist, his clear voice laced with affection. "Even if you hang up on me, I still love you."

A satisfied smile touched Si Mingjing’s lips. She didn’t engage with him further, instead picking up her yarn to knit a scarf.

Months ago, she had promised Mo Yinhe and the children she would knit each of them a scarf. She still hadn’t finished a single one, but fortunately, winter was still a long way off.

Si Mingjing sat on the living room sofa, knitting stitch by stitch. About an hour and a half later, the butler came to invite her to Old Mrs. Bai’s room, informing her that there was a guest.

Si Mingjing put away her knitting and hurried over. She found Old Mrs. Bai and Old Mrs. Hua sitting together, chatting.

"So, it’s Grandmother Hua who has come."

After entering the room, Si Mingjing demurely sat beside Old Mrs. Bai.

Old Mrs. Hua said, "I came to visit your grandmother. Seeing her in good spirits has put my mind at ease. It’s truly enviable to have a granddaughter skilled in medicine. Why am I not so fortunate?"

Old Mrs. Bai had been ill for two days but was now recovered and indeed in good spirits. However, the thought that the granddaughter she had raised herself had almost sent her to her grave filled Old Mrs. Bai with lingering fear. She said, "In our family, she’s the only presentable one, the only one who brings me honor. This time, I was fortunate to survive."

Old Mrs. Hua offered some comforting words to Old Mrs. Bai.

"Every family has its own troubles. You must try to move on. Otherwise, you’ll end up like me, unable to let go of my second son’s death, constantly plagued by full-body edema. Now, after listening to your granddaughter, I feel much stronger," she confided.

"It’s good of you to visit. My good-for-nothing granddaughter... she’s caused such trouble for your grandson..."

Old Mrs. Bai sighed, lamenting, "Your Jinse probably can’t wait to cut ties with our family and have nothing more to do with us ever again."

"That’s not true at all," said Old Mrs. Hua. "Just a few days ago, your Mingjing celebrated my grandson’s birthday with him. You know he’s always disliked celebrating it. This was the first time he agreed to it, and he enjoyed himself immensely. Jinse remembers this kindness and specifically asked me to deliver this invitation. You absolutely must come the day after tomorrow."

Old Mrs. Hua placed the invitation on the table.

A shrewd glint flashed in Si Mingjing’s eyes as she asked, "Is this for a charity fundraiser?"

Hearing the interest in her voice, Old Mrs. Hua asked, "Mingjing, have you also heard of the annual charity fundraiser on Mu Continent?"

She hadn’t heard of it before, but coincidentally, just a few days ago, she had overheard Bai Chuanfeng and Huo Liwen plotting.

They were planning to target her at this annual charity fundraiser, an event organized by the Hua Family. The invitees were all prominent families on Mu Continent. It seemed Bai Chuanfeng had correctly calculated that the Hua Family would deliver an invitation!

They intended to make their move against her at the charity fundraiser hosted by the Hua Family. If anything happened to her there, the organizer, Hua Jinse, would inevitably be implicated!

Bai Chuanfeng is truly vengeful, determined to eliminate me and drag Hua Jinse down as well—killing two birds with one stone!

A knowing smile touched Si Mingjing’s lips. She nodded. "I’m aware. I will definitely be there on time."

"Jingzhe also asked me to give you this," Old Mrs. Hua added.

At Old Mrs. Hua’s gesture, the butler handed a box of pastries to Si Mingjing. "Miss Si, our Young Master personally queued at the Gourment Restaurant to buy these. He said they’re the best seafood cakes on Mu Continent and wanted you to try them."

"Oh, please thank him for me."

Si Mingjing accepted the exquisitely packaged box of pastries. It had a small sticky note on it, adorned with exceptionally beautiful handwriting.

It read: "Auntie Si, I wish you happiness every day! Here on Mu Continent, I’ve got your back from now on!"

...

(Author’s note: There’s one more update, which I’ll post during the day. I was too tired after returning by high-speed rail from the company’s annual meeting. I couldn’t get into the right mindset when I opened my computer, so I’ll write with full energy after some sleep.)
