Chapter 434: Mo Yinhe’s Thousand-Mile Chase for His Wife 1
Sitting beside her, Si Mingjing heard the Bai Family matriarch’s proud voice and was slightly surprised.
This maternal bond... was it really sought by the Bai matriarch herself?
As the Bai matriarch spoke, she took several invitations from her handbag. "Come, come, come, my old sisters, here are the invitations. Everyone, come to my place tomorrow night for the welcoming banquet my daughter is hosting for my granddaughter to celebrate the return of my precious grandchild."
Mrs. Hua took an invitation, set it aside, and said, "I will definitely be there to support you. This child has really caught my eye."
Si Mingjing smiled gracefully. If the Bai matriarch hadn’t taken out the invitations, she wouldn’t have known about the banquet being held specifically for her tomorrow night.
"Grandma, did Mother organize this banquet?"
"Indeed. Your mother said that since you’ve actually returned, we need to make it a grand affair. We have to let everyone know our beloved granddaughter is back. Your mother has invited many prominent people; even Crown Prince Lisao received an invitation."
Could Bai Chuanfeng really be that kind-hearted? Isn’t she setting some sort of trap for me to fall into? Or perhaps she wants to use the banquet as an opportunity to create a chance for Bai Qingshui, tying her to the Crown Prince?
Si Mingjing grew cautious but kept her expression unchanged as she secretly pondered.
She sat beside the Bai matriarch, watching the old ladies play mahjong, her thoughts drifting far away.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Mo Yinhe, making a video call.
Si Mingjing stood up, walked to the edge of the deck, and leaned on the railing as she answered the video call. The sea breeze played with her long hair, an unexpectedly heart-stirring sight.
Seeing her charming face on the video call, Mo Yinhe’s yearning intensified.
"Why are you out on the sea?"
Si Mingjing explained Mrs. Hua’s situation, saying she had come to the deck for a follow-up consultation. The weather was clear and the sun shone brightly. The water’s surface cast a fantastical sheen, and its reflection on her face made her skin, already like creamy jade, appear even fairer.
Mo Yinhe’s dark eyes deepened instantly. His voice was low and tender as he said, "I miss you."
Si Mingjing missed him too.
When they were together every day, she hadn’t felt it so acutely. But having been on the Mu Continent for just three days, he now entered her dreams every night. In those dreams, he devoured me several times. Thinking about it made my cheeks flush slightly. For a moment, I couldn’t tell if I missed *him*, or just his body.
Si Mingjing felt a little bashful and pretended to smooth her windblown hair.
"Don’t you miss me?" When Mo Yinhe didn’t hear her reply, his expression turned sullen, his eyes filled with dissatisfaction and accusation.
Si Mingjing leaned back against the railing, a smile revealing her pearly white teeth. "If I don’t miss you, who else would I miss?"
"Who knows. Women tend to go astray when they’re away from home."
Si Mingjing rolled her eyes. She said deliberately, "Tomorrow night, Bai Chuanfeng is arranging a welcome banquet for me. Many people will be invited, and there should be plenty of talented young men. We’ll see if I go bad then."
Mo Yinhe’s handsome face instantly clouded over, like an impending storm. He wished he could reach through the video call, pull her to him, and kiss her fiercely.
Si Mingjing laughed heartily. "I’m just teasing you."
"Don’t joke with me like that!"
"I miss you," Si Mingjing said, knowing how to placate him. "So much that I can’t sleep."
Her words finally calmed the brewing storm in Mo Yinhe. Unable to hold her in his arms at night, he too found it difficult to sleep, and his sleep quality had worsened.
They chatted for a while before Si Mingjing made an unreasonable request, knowing Mo Yinhe might not agree. "I’m all alone in this unfamiliar place. I’d like someone to come and keep me company."
"I’ll finish up my work here, then I’ll come and keep you company," Mo Yinhe said.
But Si Mingjing just smiled. "It’s not your company I’m asking for."
Mo Yinhe’s expression changed rapidly, his mood visibly unsettled.
Si Mingjing smiled gently. "Don’t be angry. I know you’ve been very busy lately. Don’t neglect your official duties for my sake; otherwise, I’d become a ’femme fatale.’ I’d like Si Yuan to come and keep me company for a few days."
"Did Si Lisao put you up to this?" Mo Yinhe’s voice suddenly turned dangerous. He was always on guard whenever Ye Siyuan, his younger sister, was involved.
"No. I haven’t even seen Crown Prince Lisao since I arrived on the Mu Continent. If you don’t believe me, ask Fengjue. He follows me every day; he knows my whereabouts best."
Mo Yinhe was well aware of this. Fengjue reported her movements to him daily, not a single detail missed; Mo Yinhe knew them like the back of his hand.
"Last time, my aunt came to our house to discuss a marriage proposal for Crown Prince Lisao and mentioned something. She said your ancestors have some connection with the Bai Family of the Mu Continent. Bai Danfeng said that Old Madam Ye’s grandfather, Bai Ronghua, was the Bai Family’s only direct male heir. Unfortunately, men have no inheritance rights on the Mu Continent. So, the Bai Family had to find someone from a collateral branch, Bai Qiuying—who is my maternal grandmother, Old Madam Bai—to be the heir."
"I’ve been staying with the Bai Family for the past few days and found out something. When my grandmother inherited the Bai Family assets, she promised Bai Ronghua that if any of his descendants had a daughter, she would willingly return the family enterprise to that daughter."
When Old Madam Bai took over Bai Ronghua’s assets, she felt a pang of guilt and thus made that promise.
However, after Bai Ronghua left the Mu Continent, he had no intention of his descendants returning, so he never told them about this.
Mo Yinhe was unimpressed. "Si Yuan won’t care about the Bai Family’s assets," he stated.
"But I don’t want Bai Qingshui to get them!" Si Mingjing declared.
Mo Yinhe pondered for a moment, his gaze deepening. "Mingjing, Si Yuan is my own sister."
He was very fond of his sister and didn’t want Si Yuan to return to the Mu Continent and have any interaction with Si Lisao.
"I know. I won’t harm her. She’s my dear sister-in-law too," Si Mingjing replied.
Mo Yinhe gazed at Si Mingjing intently but said nothing. He fell silent for a moment. His silence clearly signified disapproval, and Si Mingjing knew it.
"Sorry, it was thoughtless of me to ask," Si Mingjing said, immediately backing down.
Mo Yinhe’s heart softened. He knew Mingjing wouldn’t harm Si Yuan, but he couldn’t be sure she wouldn’t secretly try to matchmake Si Yuan and Si Lisao. That was why he hadn’t agreed. Yet, he didn’t want this to affect their marital relationship. Mo Yinhe’s expression softened. "Alright," he said. "I’ll have Si Yuan go and stay with you for a few days."
But he wouldn’t let Si Yuan go alone. Mo Yinhe missed Mingjing terribly, each second apart feeling like a year. He decided to give her a surprise.
Si Mingjing’s eyes shone brightly. "When will she leave?" she urged. "If it’s soon, she could arrive just in time for my banquet tomorrow night."
"I’ll try to arrange it."
Mo Yinhe ended the call and immediately dialed Ye Siyuan, instructing her to wait for him at the palace. He was taking her on a trip.
Ye Siyuan asked, "Brother, where are we going?"
"Your sister-in-law needs you."
Mingjing wouldn’t recklessly ask for Si Yuan to come to the Mu Continent without a good reason. Mo Yinhe didn’t want his sister to have any contact with Si Lisao, so he decided to accompany her personally. I’d like to see just how many talented young men at tomorrow night’s banquet can catch my woman’s eye!
