Chapter 406 Mo Yinhe Suffers a Critical Hit! 1

Mo Yinhe accompanied his mother, Ye Xinguang, to the Quan Family.

Before Mo Yinhe gained real power, Atlantis was managed by a temporary joint government composed of one elder from each of the six top-tier families.

The elder of the Quan Family was named Quan Ji; he was Quan Yong’s grandfather.

Ye Xinguang went to the Quan Family to offer condolences and saw Elder Quan. "Elder Quan," she said, "for the old to bury the young is a great sorrow. Please, try to bear your grief."

Overnight, Elder Quan’s hair had turned completely white. Quan Yong had been the Quan Family’s most promising grandson. He died without a trace, universally reviled, and even his funeral had to be a subdued affair. Elder Quan was grief-stricken, his sorrow too profound to voice.

"It was his own doing," Elder Quan said, his voice heavy, "a destined end he couldn’t escape."

Elder Quan had enjoyed smooth sailing all his life, rarely suffering major setbacks. His grandson’s death, however, struck him like a blow to the head, yet he was powerless to seek justice. Therefore, he preferred not to dwell on it, hoping to move past the matter quickly. Because if it were scrutinized, Ye Siyuan would inevitably be implicated.

Elder Quan understood that Quan Yong had wanted to marry Ye Siyuan to solidify the Quan Family’s century-old status. But no matter how Quan Yong pursued her, Ye Siyuan remained unmoved. It took Quan Yong a long time to discover that Si Lisao resided in Ye Siyuan’s heart. As long as Si Lisao was alive, Quan Yong would never have the chance to marry Ye Siyuan.

Quan Yong had twice attempted to assassinate Si Lisao, a fact Elder Quan had been unaware of. Had he known, he would never have allowed his grandson to commit such audacious acts. Setting aside his lack of success, if he had actually succeeded, war between the two nations would have been imminent. The mere thought of such consequences made Elder Quan break out in a cold sweat.

Now, the Mu Continent had even signaled its desire for Atlantis to offer a princess in compensation. If Ye Siyuan were truly sent as a princess for a marriage alliance, the Quan Family would be branded traitors for generations in the eyes of the Atlantean people.

Elder Quan said, "Your Majesty, regarding the marriage alliance being discussed online..."

Ye Xinguang smiled and said, "That’s just netizens speculating. How could my daughter, Ye Xinguang’s daughter, be sent to the Mu Continent for a marriage alliance? Today is Quan Yong’s funeral; let’s not discuss such unpleasant matters. Quan Yong was indeed too reckless, but respect for the dead comes first. He has paid the due price for his actions. Let’s not speak of this anymore. Give him a proper burial. In my eyes, you remain an elder of unwavering importance."

Hearing this, Elder Quan wept profusely. "Thank you for your understanding, Your Majesty."

Ye Xinguang was adept at soothing the elders. Facing Mo Yinhe, she earnestly admonished him, "Yinhe, you must remember Elder Quan’s contributions. When I was young, after being abandoned by my parents in the ocean, I drifted to Atlantis by chance. It was Elder Quan who first discovered me and informed the former Emperor that I was the Sea God sent by the heavens to Atlantis. If not for him, neither you nor I would be here today."

Back then, Ye Xinguang, an unattractive, man-made mermaid cast off by her parents, had discovered the Atlantis Undersea Empire in the deep sea. At the time, she was a grey mermaid, not particularly comely. Yet, Elder Quan told the former Emperor she was the Sea God because, in Atlantis, the Sea God was envisioned as a mermaid. Consequently, the former Emperor adopted her as his daughter, granting her the title of Princess.

Later, after the former Emperor passed away, his numerous children slaughtered each other in a struggle for the throne. Ultimately, they all perished in that power struggle. Only Ye Xinguang, the adopted daughter, miraculously survived, becoming the serendipitous successor. Seeing this, the six elders of the former regime pleaded with Ye Xinguang to ascend the throne. Elder Quan was one of the elders who staunchly supported her becoming Queen. Even if they merely intended for her to be a titular queen without real power, they had indeed supported her, and that debt of gratitude could not be forgotten.

Mo Yinhe stood beside Ye Xinguang, his hands clasped behind his back. "Yes, Mother. Your son will remember."

He then said to Elder Quan, "Elder Quan, please accept my condolences. I have already ordered Quan Heng’s release and will not pursue his reckless actions last night in chasing Si Lisao. He should be able to make it to Quan Yong’s funeral."

"Thank you, Crown Prince," Elder Quan said.

"Additionally, Quan Yong’s military position is now vacant, and we haven’t found a more suitable replacement. I would like Quan Heng to take over from Quan Yong. What are your thoughts?"

Upon hearing this, Elder Quan found some solace. "It is entirely up to you, Crown Prince."

"Then it’s settled. Effective today, Quan Heng is promoted to Major General. Elder Quan, please take care of your health; the Empire will continue to need your counsel."

Displaying both benevolence and authority, Mo Yinhe then went to the mourning hall to pay his respects to Quan Yong.

Soon, Quan Heng rushed back to attend his elder brother’s funeral.

After the funeral ended, Quan Heng handed Mo Yinhe a photograph, saying, "Crown Prince, this is the letter my brother sent to Si Lisao."

Mo Yinhe had agreed to release Quan Heng and promote him to Major General, on the condition that Quan Heng procure for him a copy of the letter Quan Yong had sent to Si Lisao. After attending the funeral, Quan Heng had immediately gone to ask Quan Yong’s personal assistant about the letter’s contents.

Mo Yinhe took the photograph, surprised. "Just a photograph?"

Quan Heng, his eyes red-rimmed and still grappling with the grief of his brother’s death, replied with frustration and anger, "Yes, Crown Prince, it’s this photograph. My brother’s personal assistant gave it to me. It should be genuine. Crown Prince, I must avenge my brother!"

Mo Yinhe patted Quan Heng on the shoulder, his tone grave. "You are too impetuous. Go to the military and temper your disposition first. Don’t be hasty with revenge!"

Quan Heng considered this for a moment and nodded, feeling the Crown Prince was right.

"Crown Prince, I understand. I won’t act impulsively as I did last night, giving others leverage against me."

Mo Yinhe nodded in satisfaction. Taking the photograph, he left the Quan Family with Ye Xinguang.

Sitting in the submarine, Mo Yinhe held the photograph, staring at a bare shoulder depicted in it. For some reason, he found this bare shoulder familiar, though he couldn’t quite place it at the moment. However, the prominent dragon tattoo on this shoulder sent Mo Yinhe’s mind racing with conjectures, hinting at a profound and closely guarded secret.

Mo Yinhe thought of his own back, which also bore a similar dragon tattoo.

Only, the dragon tattoo on Mo Yinhe’s back was a White Dragon;

But on this shoulder, it was a Golden Dragon.

Mo Yinhe’s dark eyes narrowed with a speculative glint. Stroking his chin, he mused, Could this be from Si Lisao’s coming-of-age ceremony? Whose shoulder could this be?

Ye Xinguang sat beside Mo Yinhe. Seeing her son lost in thought while holding a photograph, she asked curiously, "Yinhe, what are you looking at?"

Ye Xinguang leaned closer, saw the bare shoulder in the photograph, and feigned slight anger. "You child! Even though Si Yuan is your biological sister, you shouldn’t take a photo of her shoulder and stare at it so openly. You are both adults now; you must be mindful of propriety. There are distinctions to be made between men and women!"

"Mother, what are you talking about?"

The speculative light in Mo Yinhe’s eyes abruptly transformed into a bloodthirsty, dark glint.

He suddenly clenched the photograph, his face contorted with fury. "You’re saying this is Si Yuan’s shoulder?"
