Chapter 208 It Can't Disappear Just Like That

With a shy smile on his face, the little boy looked at Veronica Parker and asked her in return, "Do I really have to choose between Mom and Dad?"

Veronica Parker folded her lips and responded. "Other kids prefer one over the other.."

"I like a girl in our small class." The boy interjected.

Veronica Parker didn't expect to get such an answer. So instead of changing the subject, she asked him further with much anticipation, "The girl in your class?"

The others laughed as they listened.

The director found the conversation charming and didn't intervene.

"Yes." The little boy happily answered.

"Well then, could you tell us the reason why you like this girl in your class?" Veronica Parker inquired with a smile.

"She is very cute. She has these two pigtails and she's prettier than any girl I know!" The little boy exclaimed with so much excitement.

Veronica Parker joked to the camera, "It seems like boys were born to like beautiful girls."

The audience below burst out laughing.

"Does she like you?" Veronica Parker asked.

"I think so." The little boy proudly answered.

Veronica Parker held back a smile, looked down at the audience who kept on smiling because of her little boy, and asked, "Why?"

"Because she sent me a lot of little red flowers." He revealed.

"Oh, red little flowers?" Veronica Parker inquired. "Was that the little safflowers from the garden?" She asked the little boy for confirmation. "Yes." He responded and showed them all a big smile.

Veronica Parker then thought to herself that the boy's story was a little familiar.

"That's so cute. Can you tell us her name?" She asked.

"Her first name is Lily." The little boy exclaimed.

There were several reactions by made the audience. Even Veronica Parker couldn't hide her astonished face. But relatively, most people were amused as to how the little boy spoke with so much innocence. They just regarded the little boy's story as part of a child's play and it shouldn't be taken seriously. When they finished filming, the director was very satisfied with the on-the-spot interview.

Sometimes children's minds are different from those of adults. Life can often speak golden sentences, ironic and funny, and the one who has deep feelings is Veronica Parker.

In general, children viewed things differently than those of adults. Their innocence would often pacify a caught off guard situation then adults would just laugh and forget like it never happened.

But not for Veronica Parker at that time.

Veronica Parker stepped down and Lucy Underwood came over to help her take off her headset and earrings.

After recording, all these things have to be kept.

Veronica Parker glanced at her watch and realized that it was almost 6 o'clock when they finished filming for the interview. Veronica Parker went back to her office, sat down on her seat then opened the drawer to take out her bracelet and watch. She first wore her bracelet then started looking for her watch. She checked every corner of the drawer but she wasn't able to find it.

Her eyes grew bigger then she panicked when she realized that her watch was gone.

She recalled that she carefully placed her pieces of jewelry inside that drawer. But now her watch was gone.

She hurriedly checked the other drawers, even the trash bin inside her office. But she found none. Not even the slightest trace of her watch.

Veronica Parker stood there, her head was buzzing.

It was Nick Cage who gave her that watch. It was indeed an expensive watch. And now it's gone, how in the world could she inform him that she actually lost it?

If Nick Cage finds out that she was not wearing it, he would think that she did it on purpose and he would definitely get offended.

He has this predictable character of getting angry and Veronica Parker knew about it. She was certain of all the possible reactions of Nick Cage.

She felt dizzy and got too scared at the thought of Nick Cage getting angry at her again.

She was sure that the watch was inside the drawer. She placed it there. She thought over and over again. But she couldn't remember any incident that she mistakenly left the watch outside the drawer. She was certain enough that she placed it inside.

She thought that it was impossible for the watch to disappear just like that. Someone must have been so jealous of her and stole her watch.

Veronica Parker went to her window, peeked, and saw her colleagues getting ready to leave the office.

Everybody acted normal. Nothing suspicious.

She couldn't just spy nor accuse anybody of stealing her watch.

She tried so hard to focus, then she thought of a way to figure out what really happened.

Veronica Parker walked out of the department with a backpack and went to the surveillance room.

"What can I do for you, Ms. Parker?" The security officer asked.

"Could you show me the surveillance records of the entertainment department just this afternoon?" Veronica Parker asked.

"Yes ma'am." The security officer quickly responded.

The staff checked the video and fast-forwarded the surveillance records. Veronica Parker knew it was hard to find out who stole it but it would at least give her an idea who went to her office at that time.

"Stop." Veronica Parker ordered. "Slow down." She added.

She saw Bella. She wondered what she was doing at the Entertainment Department.

But Veronica Parker realized that Bella often goes to their department if needed.

"Go on." Veronica Parker instructed the security officer.

The surveillance records were played until Veronica Parker returned to the department. Then she that aside from the staffs of the Entertainment Department, there were also staffs from other departments. And with that, it would be more difficult to catch who the suspect was. There was nothing suspicious with the whole surveillance records. Veronica Parker thought again of Bella. It was just her who seemed suspicious enough. And besides, she used to play tricks before towards other people.

But without any evidence, she couldn't just accuse anybody. They won't admit it either. People would also think that she was unreasonable.

The cell phone in her bag rang so she regained her senses and walked out of the monitoring room.

She took the phone out of her bag to check who the caller was.

It was Nick Cage.

Her eyes grew bigger and she became frightened again.

She cleared her throat then answered the phone as if nothing happened, "What do you want from me now?"

"Oh you're probably busy and this was not such a good time to talk, right?" Nick Cage responded with a low voice and bothered tone.

"That's not what I meant." Veronica Parker got nervous subconsciously.

"Off from work?" He checked.

"I just finished. I'm on my way home now." Veronica Parker went to the elevator then pressed the button.

She thought Nick Cage would still say something, but he just hung up.

Veronica Parker frowned, wondering what Nick Cage meant. For that instance, she was not able to predict his thoughts. Nick Cage still had several tricks up his sleeves. She thought that he might be upset because she didn't go to the Winter Villa.

She then started to think of an acceptable reason if he finds out that she lost the watch that he gave her. Sure he'll be pissed off.

Could she just tell him that she forgot and left it in the office? Or just be honest and inform him about the incident? Veronica Parker's mind was running circles. She couldn't think of a valid reason for him not to get angry at her. For sure he would regard it as if she didn't care at all and just lost it.

She has to find a way to get that watch back.

Veronica Parker was not herself and she just walked straight out of the TV station. When she was about to go down the steps she saw a car parked at the side of the road, a Rolls-Royce.

She panicked and missed a few steps. She got too scared so she immediately closed her eyes and just expected her body to fall on the ground.

Just when she was about to fall, somebody behind her grabbed her wrist and pulled her towards a sturdy chest.

Before she got into her senses again, a furious man yelled at her and said, "You should always watch your step. You have always been so careless!" Veronica Parker looked up and saw the black sharp eyes of Nick Cage. His voice was deafening and she sensed how nervous he was when she almost fell.

"I---I didn't realize it for a moment." Veronica Parker looked dazed.

She thought that Nick Cage would be in the Rolls-Royce. But surprisingly, he was just there behind her. If it hasn't been for him, she would have suffered so much. She just panicked upon seeing the car because she was still worried about the watch that she just lost. The thought that Nick Cage would find out about it frightened her.

"Thank you." Veronica Parker added.

Veronica Parker stood up, stepped back, and tried to get out of Nick Cage's arms. She realized that they were still at the TV Station so it was not a good idea for other people to see her near him.

Instead of letting go, Nick Cage exerted a slight force and brought her closer to his chest. But she pushed him back. "Hey! Somebody might see us." Veronica Parker broke free from his arms. "I'll go inside the car first." She uttered.

With that, she went down the steps and ran towards the car.

When she got to the side of the road, she went inside the car without looking back. The bodyguard was just next to Nick Cage.

When Veronica Parker got in the car, she pressed her face against the window and looked outside.

Fortunately, she didn't see any other colleagues nearby.

The bodyguard opened the door and Nick Cage got in the car. Then they drove away from the TV Station.

Bella appeared when the car went farther. She was just hiding in the corner and she saw everything that happened.
