Chapter 200 - 104: A Gathering of Demons
Chapter 200 - 104: A Gathering of Demons
Si Qichang and his fellow sect brother exchanged a glance, a murderous intent rising in their hearts. ’There are two of us and only one of him. Why don’t we just take him out?’
That way, the two of them could find other allies to work with, and the Taiyin Seven Evils Banner would be theirs as well.
For Demon Cultivators like them, betrayal and treachery were as simple as eating and drinking.
"Could it be that you two senior brothers have developed some killing intent toward me?"
Ji Feng’s face broke into that same smile, the one Si Qichang and his fellow sect brother found so detestable.
"I am proficient in Escape Techniques. Killing me won’t be so simple, Senior Brothers."
Before his voice had even faded, his figure flickered, reappearing dozens of feet away in the next instant.
The two men stared at each other in dismay. ’An Escape Technique that activates with a mere thought... We didn’t even feel him circulate his Magical Power.’ To this moment, they still had no idea what kind of Escape Technique the man had used.
Escape Techniques like Wind Escape and Thunder Escape were incredibly difficult to cultivate. But once a cultivator achieved some mastery, they were far more agile than simply using Magical Power or steering a Flying Spiritual Artifact. During Magical Combat with a cultivator of the same level, it allowed one to completely seize the initiative.
The Four Demon Sects also had similar Escape Techniques, such as the Dark Spring Demon Sect’s Blood Escape and the Red Yin Demon Sect’s Shadow Escape.
’With such a strange and unpredictable Escape Technique, it’s no wonder this guy is so insufferable and has still managed to survive in the Dark Spring Demon Sect.’
"Junior Brother Ji Feng, you must be joking," Huyan Yi said, trying to smooth things over. "We all came here for the Taiyin Illusion Demon Banner. If we start fighting among ourselves before we even lay eyes on Yang Jing, we’ll be a laughingstock for the Righteous Cultivators."
"Excellent. Time is of the essence. We will reconvene here at midnight in one day. Then, we will gather our fellow Demon Sect cultivators and go take Yang Jing’s head together!"
Ji Feng cupped his fists at the two of them with a smile, and in the next instant, he vanished without a sound.
Si Qichang and his fellow sect brother hurried to the spot where he had vanished, searching for a moment, but they couldn’t find any clue as to how he had escaped.
"What a formidable Escape Technique!" Huyan Yi said, a mix of envy and jealousy in his voice. "With a technique like that, you could go anywhere in the world, as long as you don’t get trapped in an Array!"
Huyan Yi was filled with both envy and jealousy. ’If I had an Escape Technique like that,’ he thought, ’I’d probably be just like Ji Feng, saying whatever I want without caring what anyone thinks.’
Si Qichang’s expression was grim.
"Hmph. Since he’s so arrogant, let’s find more of our fellow Demon Sect cultivators to put him in his place. When the time comes, we’ll force him to be the one to keep an eye on Yang Jing. They say Yang Jing is a master of the Sword Dao. Let’s see what’s faster—his Escape Technique or Yang Jing’s Sword Escape!"
Seething with resentment, the two of them disappeared into the wilderness.
「A moment later」
Inside the Cave Mansion on the cliffside, the figure of Ji Feng appeared. With a shimmer of change, he reverted to his true appearance: Yang Jing.
He hadn’t killed the two Red Yin Demon Sect Cultivators. Instead, he chose to cast a long line to catch a bigger fish, all to set a vicious trap for these Demon Cultivators. This was also a way to sow seeds of suspicion among their ranks.
If the Demon Cultivators of the Four Demon Sects united and formed an organization, even Yang Jing would find it extremely difficult to handle. The challenge of dealing with them would increase exponentially. But if he used his ability to change his appearance and pose as a Demon Cultivator to set them up a few times...
...these Demon Cultivators would begin to suspect one another, and the difficulty of them forming an alliance would skyrocket.
Iron Head had already set up a Concealing Array and an Upper Yang Demon Exorcism Formation within the Cave Mansion.
Most of the Spirit Veins in this area were occupied by the Wei Family. This location was the only one that concealed a minor, unremarkable branch vein. Setting up an Array Formation on it required an extremely high level of skill.
That was why Yang Jing had waited for Iron Head; only by combining their strength had they managed to complete the Array Formation.
At that moment, Iron Head was using a needle to sew the surface of a Long Banner, Yinjiao was scribbling furiously on Talisman Paper to create Thunder-Calling Talismans, and Ji Feng was using the Five Elements True Fire to refine a Magic Altar.
These were all the ritual implements needed to build an altar and summon the Taixiao True Thunder and the Great Cave True Thunder.
Naturally, Yang Jing wasn’t pinning all his hopes on Wenshu from the Longwu Marketplace. The man was merely a target he had put forward to attract the attention of the Demon Cultivators.
He surveyed their progress and saw that seven of the Long Banners for summoning thunder were complete, and 127 of the 365 Thunder-Calling Talismans had been drawn. He nodded in satisfaction.
"If we succeed this time, we will undoubtedly slay many True Disciples of the Demon Sects," Yang Jing promised his disciples. "I will give the Merit Points to you all. You can use them to go to the secret vault in the Northern Army Governor’s Mansion and find some suitable Spiritual Artifacts."
’How could my disciples not have Spiritual Artifacts to keep up appearances?’
Besides, Spiritual Artifacts ultimately required Magical Power to be activated, and they had strong diminishing returns. Two or three Spiritual Artifacts could drastically increase one’s strength in Magical Combat, but by the time a cultivator had four or five, the increase in power was far less significant. It merely provided more options when facing an enemy.
Yang Jing already possessed the Golden Crow Pure Yang Mirror, which served for both offense and defense, and the Demon-Catching Tripod, which was specifically designed to counter Celestial Demons. With a Flying Sword as well, he had little need for any more Spiritual Artifacts.
Spiritual Artifacts and Magical Artifacts couldn’t absorb nature’s spiritual energy on their own and had to be sustained with Magical Power. Refining too many Spiritual Artifacts would severely drag down one’s Cultivation progress.
"Thank you, Master!"
Chi Yu danced with joy. Of the four disciples, she was the only one who was too clumsy to be of much help.
Yang Jing pinched her chubby little cheek, though his mind was already calculating what tasks he could assign her. ’As my disciple, she can’t just be idle.’
「At midnight on the second day」
Si Qichang and his fellow sect brother were already waiting at the designated spot, accompanied by six other Demon Cultivators.
A Demon Cultivator covered in Demon Scales, his eyes bearing Vertical Pupils, was growing impatient. "Are you two toying with me?" he said with irritation. "Where are the other comrades?"
"Senior Brother Jie, you may not be aware," a woman with a languid voice said, "but Si Qichang and Huyan Yi are infamous good-for-nothings in our Red Yin Demon Sect. They must have been duped. I said from the start we should have sought out Senior Brother Wei Ying from the Dark Spring Demon Sect and allied with him."
The faces of Si Qichang and his brother flushed red with anger. This "bitch," Zhonglan Cha, was also a True Disciple of the Red Yin Demon Sect and had often humiliated them back in the Sect. They never thought she’d show them such disrespect even here in the Northern Domain.
But for all their anger, the "bitch" Zhonglan Cha’s Cultivation was at Foundation Establishment Perfection. She had also performed Banishment on a Nine-Child Demon Mother, and they were no match for her whatsoever.
Jie Ze snorted coldly.
"We’ll wait for half a quarter-hour. If this ally you mentioned doesn’t show up by then, I’ll tear you two apart alive."
The other four Demon Cultivators also glared at Si Qichang and his brother, their hostile gazes draining all the color from the pair’s faces.
"My fellow cultivators, why so anxious? Am I not here?"
A figure appeared without a sound in the midst of the nine Demon Cultivators.
"Senior Brother Zhuo Hufeng, Senior Brother Yue Rupan, you two are indeed men of your word. I can’t believe you found so many fellow cultivators."
The expressions of Si Qichang and his brother first relaxed, then twisted with rage.
"Ji Feng, why are you here alone? Where are the allies you were supposed to find?"
Zhonglan Cha burst into laughter, bending over as her soft bosom trembled.
"You two imbeciles, you even made up fake names for yourselves! HAHA! I can’t believe it. You’re played for fools back in the Sect, and you’re still being played for fools out here."
Humiliated and enraged, Si Qichang and his brother immediately summoned their Magical Artifacts. Two Demon Wheels materialized, pulsing with a sinister Yin Qi and a Demon Intent that felt cold enough to freeze creation itself.
"Senior Brothers, please," Yang Jing said with a smile. "A little impatience can spoil a great plan. Have you forgotten our objective?"
Suddenly, a figure shot forward and threw a punch straight at Yang Jing. The blow was shockingly powerful, containing a terrifying Great Strength.
Yang Jing’s form flickered, and in an instant, he had teleported, reappearing at the side of Si Qichang and his brother.
"This senior brother certainly has a temper," Yang Jing remarked.
Jie Ze retracted his fist.
"A fine Escape Technique indeed."
As members of the Demon Sect, they naturally respected strength above all else. Since this Ji Feng possessed such a remarkable Escape Technique, waiting a little longer for him was hardly an issue.
Si Qichang and his brother, however, turned even paler. Ji Feng had appeared beside them without a sound. If he had really wanted to kill them, they would already be headless.
"This junior brother’s face is quite unfamiliar," Zhonglan Cha said, stepping closer. A rich fragrance wafted from her as her smoky, alluring eyes sized up Yang Jing. "I am very close with Senior Brother Wei Ying of your Dark Spring Demon Sect. How is it that I’ve never heard your esteemed name?"
"I’ve heard Senior Brother Wei Ying has countless lovers," Yang Jing replied. "I’ve never heard your name mentioned among them, Senior Sister. What’s so strange about that?"
Yang Jing’s one sentence shattered Zhonglan Cha’s composure. Her seductive demeanor vanished, replaced by a vicious glare.
Seeing Yang Jing give Zhonglan Cha absolutely no face, Si Qichang and his brother felt an unexpected flicker of camaraderie toward him.
"Enough!" an old-looking Demon Cultivator with milky-white, blind eyes, spoke impatiently. "We are here for the Taiyin Illusion Demon Banner! Let’s sort out the terms of our cooperation and then go find that Yang Jing!"
"Exactly! I agree!"
The other Demon Cultivators chimed in with agreement.
Yang Jing took out the Taiyin Seven Evils Banner.
"The terms are simple," he said. "Each of us will put forth a treasure for evaluation. The five people who offer the treasures of highest value will each earn one-time usage rights to the Taiyin Illusion Demon Banner. The remaining allies will divide those five treasures among themselves."
The blind Demon Cultivator nodded.
"That seems fair. But how will those five treasures be divided?"
"Naturally, they will be divided based on the contributions made during the upcoming battle to slay Yang Jing."
Yang Jing said.
"Now, everyone, present your treasures. Let the bidding begin."
