My Alphas' Dark Desires

Chapter 395 395: From Within

Chapter 395 395: From Within

***************

~Valerie's POV~

"The betrothal between us is null." Kai's voice rang across the room for all to hear. "Stay out of my personal life. Valerie did not steal anything from anyone. I was originally hers, and I still am."

Gasps scattered everywhere.

Serena blinked once, then twice. Then, a slow, devastatingly calm smile spread across her face.

"Is it?" she asked softly. "Because… my father didn't sign anything annulling any betrothal."

Silence slammed through the cafeteria.

I felt it the rage crash through Kai. I could feel Kaiser's pulse as Kai's fist balled at his sides.

Serena, as bold as she was, dared to place her hand on his arm. My stomach twisted painfully. Astra stirred within me, ready to spring into action and tear her apart for touching our mate.

Isla whispered, "Oh shit."

Kai's jaw clenched, his eyes darkening for a moment. "Continue being deluded. Valerie Nightshade is my mate."

"A whore being shared by everyone?"

Something akin to rage and hit bubbled inside me. Just hearing her talk made me want to disintegrate her right there. And the second the thoughts crossed my mind, I saw fire light up in my mind's eyes, and something burned.

I could feel the usual tingling underneath my fingertips. It was only a matter of time before I did something stupid, loving and brave I'd soon come to regret.

So, instead of such, I simply rose to my feet. My gaze darted away from the duo to see Dristan, Xade and Axel by the second entrance of the cafeteria.

Astra surged immediately, pushing past my controls, to connect with her mates.

She whined internally, and then, Dristan reacted. His body moved as did the others, but everything was becoming messy, and I couldn't do this here with everyone in the cafeteria turning to stare.

I stood up abruptly. "I need to go."

"Val…" Isla reached for me. And suddenly ehr hands became very hot on my skin.

I shook my head. "Not right now."

Without looking at them or thinking further, I grabbed my tray and walked out, my pulse pounding in my ears as the air suddenly too tight.

"Xander… I need you. Please," I called out in my head, hoping for some intervention.

The last thing I heard before the doors shut behind me was Serena's soft, victorious hum.

Sadly, that was no longer my concern; it was what was happening to me.

I tried calming down, steadying my emotions, and doing away with the anger bubbling within me, but to no avail; it did not stop.

My head snapped up as I looked from side to side in search of where to go.

I couldn't go to class. I did not want to stay back in school for fear of what I might do to someone or…

My eyes spotted a clearing not too far off on the West wing. Immediately, my feet moved, running in that direction, until I left the school buildings and got into the field, but no sooner had I passed the first tree than my body slammed into something… or someone rock solid.

"Ouch."

I stumbled backwards, but two strong arms brushed past me and wrapped around my shoulder, steadying me.

I sniffled, inhaling the scent of the man whom I had slammed into. The smell calmed my nerves, my body and subsequently, my powers.

That sharp tingling sensation I felt was no longer there. Instead, it was dulled completely but I could still feel sparks.

My first thought was that it was Xander, but when I inhaled once more, I noticed the subtle difference.

It wasn't Xander but…

Astra retreated to the back of my mind instinctively as I looked up to clear my doubts.

Staring down at me with the sweetest violet eyes I had ever seen was none other than the Dragon King.

King Draco's lips twitched a little as he released me.

"What's going on with you? Did someone harm you or…?"

I managed a smile and shook my head. "Your Majesty, it is nothing. I just…"

While my brain seemed to have been concocting a lie to tell him, he narrowed his gaze and leaned closer to me.

His eyes bore into mine as though he could see the past, future and present in just one look. I ceased my breath, unable to move until he finished his assessment.

At that point, all the lies I wanted to tell disappeared from my mind.

He kept on looking at me for what felt like hours, then I noticed something flash in his eyes—something like recognition.

He straightened his spine. The grim expression on his face never faded either. "What happened?"

"I… huh. I felt…" He stepped closer, and my heart skipped a beat. Immediately, I placed my hands between us to keep his distance, but instead, I heard a soft wince.

I looked up, unsure of what was happening, when suddenly I saw that soft, concerned look in his eye,s like my father usually gave me when I was sick.

I followed his line of sight to where my hands were on his chest.

A gasp fell off my lips as I retracted my hands. Hit smoke rose from where my hands had just been on his body. Once more, that same tingling sensation from before resurfaced.

Only that this time, stronger.

My gaze darted back to his, for an explanation or to apologise, but he beat me to it before the words left my lips. "This is bad. We need to leave here."

King Draco did not tell me anything and immediately grabbed my hand.

Fear gripped me, and I suddenly felt small standing that close to him. Astra, on the other hand, felt weak, but something inside me wanted to challenge that strength.

I was sure that was my power. It took everything within me, including chanting to myself to calm down, to stop me from bursting out.

"Your Maj…"

King Draco cut in sharply, "Follow me if you do not want to explode…"

"I…"

He halted, his eyes darkening as he added the last words that made my heart skip. "From within."
