Chapter 259 - 256: Test

Chapter 259 - 256: Test

Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, it was Saturday. The rain that had been falling for over a week finally cleared up, adding a touch of warmth to the cold Nancheng. In the morning, Jiang Baizhou saw two patients with appointments. One of them had fully stabilized and was here for a final follow-up. In the afternoon, Jiang Baizhou went to the university for a meeting. By the time he came out of the meeting room, it was already past four o’clock. Jiang Baizhou was then called by the principal for a conversation. They wanted him to conduct two specialized public lectures this semester, open to other schools as well. When Jiang Baizhou heard this, he raised his eyebrows slightly. He actually didn’t like giving lectures. The atmosphere with too many people wasn’t very pleasant. He clearly knew that many people came to listen to the lectures just because of his looks, and most of them were girls.

"You should think about it yourself. I’m just seeking your opinion," Principal An said, noticing Jiang’s displeased expression. He knew Jiang’s nature well enough, understanding that it had to be his own decision since it was open to the public.

"I will consider it carefully," Jiang Baizhou nodded and replied blandly.

"By the way, Bai Zhou, I’ve heard rumors from teachers and students at school saying you have a girlfriend?" Principal An poured him a cup of tea, pushed it in front of him, and chatted casually with a smile.

Jiang Baizhou had just picked up the cup of tea but hadn’t had the chance to drink it. When he heard the principal suddenly ask this, he paused, then took a light sip and replied solemnly, "Yes, but... a few days ago, she and I already got our marriage certificate."

"Got your certificate? When did this happen? How come I never heard you mention it?" Principal An took a sip of tea, widening his eyes in shock as he looked at him.

"Not long ago. We just got the certificate first and haven’t had the wedding banquet yet. After all, this is a private matter, no need for fanfare. I’ll definitely let you know when the banquet is ready," Jiang Baizhou was polite towards Principal An, not as cold as he was to others.

Principal An recovered from his surprise, nodding, "I see!" After another sip of tea, he continued, "I was quite surprised when I first heard you had a girlfriend, and now you’re married already. Was it really so fast? I’m a bit taken aback. Have you known the girl for long?"

"No, only for a bit over two months."

"So quick?" Principal An was once again surprised. He kindly advised, "Bai Zhou, you’re the pillar of our psychology department. Both I and your teachers have great expectations for you. Marriage is a serious matter, not something to be taken lightly. You don’t seem like someone who acts rashly, so why be so careless in this?"

"Thank you for your concern, Principal An. It’s just that... I’ve known her for over twenty years. She has always been the one I wanted to marry and spend the rest of my life with, never changing. I’ll personally bring you the invitation when we hold the banquet next year," Jiang Baizhou’s expression remained calm, but when he mentioned ’spending the rest of my life,’ a gentle and doting smile habitually appeared in his eyes.

This tenderness was solely reserved for Cen Jin. He never easily showed this side to others; only with Cen Jin did his expressions become abundant, occasionally getting angry, worried, heartbroken, reluctant, happy, and having the urge to tease her. All of this belonged to her alone, whether in the past, present, or future, this would never change."

Principal An was momentarily stunned, "You’ve known each other for over twenty years?"

"Yes."

"I see! I thought you hadn’t known each other long. This is quite good," Principal An smiled and nodded, seeming a bit uncertain, but said nothing more. After a pause, he continued, "Speaking of which, did you know that Qing Han and Zhu Chen have returned to the country?"

When this was mentioned, Jiang Baizhou looked up, showing no intention of hiding it, and nodded, speaking calmly, "Yes, my wife told me."

"Your wife? Your wife knows Qing Han and Zhu Chen?"

"No," Jiang Baizhou took another sip of tea, "Last time, when we went to Milan, my wife and I ran into Senior Sister Zhu at a restaurant. A couple of days ago, when Senior Sister Zhu was having dinner with Zhu Chen, they happened to meet my wife, so they all had a meal together."

"I see!" Principal An nodded in understanding, "Talking about it, you, Qing Han, Zhu Chen, and that laid-back kid Lu Xize were called the four outstanding talents of the psychology department back then! It’s amazing how many years have passed."

Jiang Baizhou did not continue the conversation, lowering his gaze and continuing to drink tea.

Although Principal An had never publicly disclosed the relationship between Zhu Qinghan and him, the fact that he was Zhu Qinghan’s uncle was no secret at the university.

As they spoke, Jiang Baizhou’s phone suddenly rang. He set down his teacup, took out his phone, and saw the caller ID—it was Lu Xize. Checking the time, it was past five o’clock. He didn’t need to think to know why he was calling.

"Principal, excuse me, I have something to attend to. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave. I’ll consider the lecture matter carefully and accompany you for tea next time," Jiang Baizhou stood up slowly, nodded slightly, and said softly.

"Alright, alright, you go ahead! Regarding the lecture matter, think it through and give me a reply as soon as possible, preferably before next Wednesday. Then I can make arrangements," Principal An advised with a friendly smile and a nod.

Jiang Baizhou responded indifferently, then left the principal’s office. Seeing the call still connected, he put one hand in his coat pocket and answered coldly, "Hello!"

"Wow, what took you so long to answer the phone? I thought you were going to stand me up!" When Jiang Baizhou finally answered, Lu Xize felt relieved, almost swearing in frustration. His heart had been all over the place, like fifteen buckets, uneven and restless.

"Just came out of Principal An’s office," Jiang Baizhou said nonchalantly, tugging at his lips.

"Old An? What did he want you for?"

"Regarding the public lecture."

"Oh, I see," Lu Xize replied lazily. He now felt extraordinarily lucky. Fortunately, he hadn’t taken up a position at the university under Professor Meng’s advice. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be as carefree now, likely worn out at the university!

"It’s almost six now. You haven’t forgotten what I mentioned earlier, have you?"

"No."

"Then hurry up!"

"Ready to set off."

"Alright, see you at the parking lot later! I reserved a spot for you under your name, don’t forget."

"Hmm," Jiang Baizhou responded blandly, ending the call, and then proceeded towards the parking lot.
