My Alleged Husband

Chapter 578 - 557: Why Hasn’t He Returned Yet?_1

Chapter 578 - 557: Why Hasn’t He Returned Yet?_1

Every time Chen Gang asked her not to leave, he would linger for a few minutes, but it never occurred to him that her husband was waiting for her at home, almost driven to rage, knowing exactly where his wife had gone, what she had done, who she had been with. Fully aware that he was giving her one last chance, waiting for her to return with a reasonable explanation. Yet he waited in vain, unable to fathom where she had gone or what she had been up to all night. His heart grew heavier with each passing moment, but why did she seem completely indifferent to his anguish?

At home, Zhang Yichen contemplated calling his wife. After all, he should at least check on her whereabouts; she hadn’t come home all night. As a legitimate husband, he should at least phone her to see what she was up to. He hesitated for a long time, but in the end, he didn’t call. He always expected her to call him back or to immediately return home and explain herself. But why then was he unable to wait for the person he’d been expecting all this time?

"Chen Gang, stop pestering me. It’s exhausting, and it’s late. I didn’t come home all night, and my husband must be worried. I need to get back. My phone is out of battery too. I wish you would stop bothering me, or you’ll really leave me no choice but to be unkind to you!"

"You’ve crossed my boundaries time and again, and that’s enough. Don’t keep pushing me to my limits. Don’t think that I will allow you to do whatever you want just because I haven’t stopped you before. That’s not the case. I now have to rack my brains to explain to my husband why I didn’t come home all night. And you? You’re giving me such a hard time now. Do you think it’s fair to me? What exactly do you take me for?"

Ran Zhihan hurriedly left Chen Gang’s house and caught a taxi home. She felt a sigh of relief when she didn’t see her husband in the living room; she thought he must not have come back yet. But she didn’t know that her husband had been waiting in the bedroom, worried sick about her the entire night. As he tossed and turned in bed, he wondered what his wife could be doing with another man, what it was that made her go to this man’s house.

She felt a little lucky upon returning, thinking she hadn’t been caught red-handed by her husband. But when she opened the bedroom door, she was startled to find her husband sitting there, his face dark as thunderclouds.

"Yichen, why did you come back so early today? Have you eaten yet? I have already eaten outside, but I’ll make you something now!"

"Shouldn’t you explain to me first where you’ve been? Why are you coming from outside? I didn’t see you leave."

"How could you possibly have seen me leave? I went out early this morning, and you had just gotten back not long before, so how could you have bumped into me? Alright, you must be hungry. Tell me what you’d like, and I’ll go make breakfast straightaway!"

"Are you really certain I wasn’t home last night, and that you only left this morning? I’ve given you chances over and over again to tell the truth. If you continue lying to me, don’t blame me for what comes next. I’m reaching my breaking point. Just confess. Who was that person you went out with last night? And why didn’t you come home all night? What did you two do together? Is it some secret I don’t know about?"

"Don’t try to deceive me with lies. I’ve investigated. If you really care about me at all, it’s better you confess yourself, rather than me exposing the truth. If you come clean, we can still move on. But if you don’t, I can’t possibly forgive you!"

Ran Zhihan didn’t know how to address the situation. If she spoke out, she might be thrown out of her home by her own husband. What should she do?

"Husband, you’re overthinking it. That person is just a classmate of mine, from primary school all the way through junior high. He just returned from studying abroad, and I went to meet him. We had a meal together and that was it; we just chatted. I didn’t come back until this morning, so you’re not mad, right?"

Zhang Yichen laughed. He hadn’t expected his wife to continue avoiding the truth. Could they really have spent the whole night just talking? It was hardly believable that one would stay up all night with someone just to chat.

"Are you absolutely sure you did nothing?"

"Of course, I’m sure. Nothing happened between us! I’m a married woman. How could I betray my wonderful husband and fool around with someone else? Right? I’ll go start cooking now..."

Ran Zhihan was afraid to look into her husband’s eyes, those eyes made her feel panicked inside. She knew she had done something wrong, and whenever she faced her husband’s gaze, her guilt intensified. She wanted to run away, but it wasn’t so easy.

"If that’s the case, then I don’t want to eat right now. Let’s take a good look to see if you’ve been unfaithful," Zhang Yichen said and pulled his wife into his arms, then pressed himself onto her.

Ten minutes later...

"I’m asking you again, have you done anything to betray me?"

"No..."

"Ran Zhihan, do you really take me for a fool? Can’t I sense it myself? Over and over, I’ve given you the chance to tell the truth, but why do you keep lying to me? Do you not trust me at all? You run out in the middle of the night to meet up with a classmate, and I try to be patient. I thought you’d just have a meal and come back. But what happened? I waited all night long, until now, and you haven’t come home.

When you return, I ask if you did anything last night to betray me, but you stubbornly refuse to speak the truth. What am I to you, after all? Do you even consider me your husband? Do you understand how much pain your actions cause me? I love you so much, yet you secretly go off with other men. Regardless of your reasons, sneaking out to see him was wrong. If you saw me as your partner, you would have informed me in advance!"
