My Alleged Husband

Chapter 386 - 365 Scare_1

Chapter 386 - 365 Scare_1

Ever since Zhang Yichen found out his wife was pregnant, he had been impressing even himself with his excitement. Whenever he thought about becoming a father soon, he was overjoyed to no end. Previously, he had always been very serious at the company, but now he smiled at his subordinates every day, leaving them in disbelief. Was this really their boss? Why did he seem different? In the past, he never smiled at them; why were the bosses always smiling now? And it had been like this for a while, which made it all the more puzzling. Why exactly was this happening?

"Boss, I wanted to ask, is there something happy going on at home recently? You never used to smile at us subordinates, but these days you’re often smiling. Is there really some good news? If there’s something to be happy about, why not share it with us all instead of keeping it to yourself?"

Zhang Yichen was taken aback by his subordinates’ questions. Was his behavior that obvious? He had never been one to outwardly show his emotions, but what was wrong today?

"Of course there’s good news. Do you know that my wife is pregnant? This is the happiest thing in my life. We’ve been married for three whole years, and in those years, we agreed not to have our own child. The time finally came, and as soon as it did, I got news of the crystallization of our love. How could I not be happy? Must you all meddle in my family affairs? Should I not be allowed to be happy about my wife’s pregnancy? Are you perhaps feeling uncomfortable or uneasy because I’ve been cheerful and smiling at you lately? If that’s the case, then starting tomorrow, I’ll go back to how I was before!" Zhang Yichen said to his secretary. When his secretary heard this, his heart started pounding; he really didn’t want his boss to revert to his former self. The previous boss was like a devil in his eyes, a cold-hearted devil who never smiled openly. Now that they finally had a different kind of boss, how could he let this approachable figure disappear from his sight?

"Boss, you’ve got to be joking. I was just teasing you. When you’re free, you should smile more. Honestly, you look really handsome when you smile, and trust me, it suits you way better than not smiling. In the past, you always had a stern face when dealing with us subordinates, and we could never tell if what we were doing was right or wrong. But now, thanks to Lady Boss’s pregnancy, you’ve become more approachable. How could we not be happy? We’ve waited so long for a different kind of boss, and the day you smiled at each one of us has finally arrived. We couldn’t bear to see you disappear back into how you were before; it would just be too sad," he said.

"What are you babbling about here? Is your work done, or do you feel you’ve been my secretary for too long and are tired of it, thinking of going to the grassroots level to toughen up, perhaps becoming a security guard?" Zhang Yichen suddenly raised his voice at his secretary, frightening him. Had he done something wrong? His boss was the one who had brought up this conversation, and he had just chimed in. Why was he now talking about sending him to the grassroots level for training?

He was genuinely scared of his boss’s unpredictability; one moment it was all smiles, and the next, it was a total flip. Sometimes, the mood swings were so erratic, he had no clue how to interact with his boss. He had finally experienced a day when his boss was cheerful, but why did it suddenly have to change? This was something he couldn’t come to terms with internally.

"My great boss, why do you have to speak so loudly? I didn’t do it on purpose. When you spoke to me, was I not supposed to reply? Is it wrong for me to converse with you? Just because I responded with a few words and laughed with you, do you really need to send me down to the grassroots to train? I’ve been by your side for so many years, are you really willing to let me go train someone new to accompany you?"

Zhang Yichen felt there was some truth to his secretary’s words. His secretary had been by his side for many years, from the first day of starting the business to today, always helping him tackle the difficulties. Now, did he really have the heart to send him to the grassroots level? Wasn’t that a bit too insensitive? They were good buddies from the start, and it was only due to their different positions in the company that they had to address each other formally. He had been merely trying to scare him, never anticipating that he would actually frighten him this much. But he had spoken his true feelings; he really didn’t want his secretary to leave. If his secretary went to the grassroots level, what would he do? He would be utterly overwhelmed dealing with all the clients alone. Wasn’t it better to have such a close friend by his side to help out? Why bother to scare him like that?

"All right, I was just spooking you. But don’t mention these things again when you’re by my side; we are superior and subordinate at the company, yet outside the company, after work, we’re good buddies, good brothers. We need to keep supporting and helping each other. It wasn’t easy for my wife to get pregnant, and I plan to spend more time with her at home. After all, this is the fruit of our love after three years, and I don’t want to be absent for it."

"I understand. Truly, Lady Boss has had a tough time over the years. I’ve seen her efforts, and I know she’s an incredibly hardworking person, yet she’s given up so much for your sake. Good brother, you need to treat her well and not let her suffer for your sake again..."
