A day later, Ran Zhihan got off the plane at the airport in the UK. She arrived at Zhang Yichen’s residence using the address given by Xia Jing, knocked on the door, and indeed, it was Zhang Yichen who answered.

I would even abandon my parents for you; I don’t want such things to happen between us. I don’t wish to sever ties with my parents because you agreed to their conditions. I know they said and did these things for our own good, and that you did this for me, but I still cannot accept it. Haven’t our years of mutual understanding, companionship, and protection been stronger than a single request from my parents? I don’t know what you told them, or what they said to you, but why did you have to make such a pact? By doing this, are you really trying to keep me in the dark? If I hadn’t accidentally discovered the truth, were you planning to hide it from me for a lifetime? Never intending to tell me about this bet between you two?"

"I never planned to keep it from you forever. I just hoped that after three years, I could tell you about it. By then, even if you couldn’t accept it, the matter would be settled.
