My Alleged Husband

Chapter 293 - 273 Seeking Old Master Zhang_1

Chapter 293 - 273 Seeking Old Master Zhang_1

She really had no other options left; her only solution was to plead with Old Master Zhang. She wanted to see if her father-in-law could perhaps persuade her husband. She didn’t want to lose the man she loved, years of affection, feelings that couldn’t just be severed on a whim.

"Dad, I need to ask for your help. Your son wants to divorce me, and I’m begging you to talk to him, ask him not to divorce me. If I lose him, I just can’t bear to live!" Xia Jing said to Old Master Zhang.

When Old Master Zhang heard the tone of Xia Jing’s voice, he knew that the situation wasn’t as simple as she had described. Certainly, Xia Jing must have done something wrong to infuriate her husband to the point of suggesting such a foolish idea as divorce.

"This is a matter between you and your husband, and it’s not right for me to interfere. You’ve been through so much together over the years; can’t you get through this minor difficulty? Whatever happens, I hope that both of you can calm down and think it over. Don’t make a rash decision that you might regret later!"

"I want to calm down and think things through with him, but he won’t listen to me right now. I have no idea what to do. No matter what I say, he treats my words as if they were the wind passing by his ears. He doesn’t trust me at all. What can I do? He’s your son; you know him best. You must have a way to persuade him. Dad, I’m really begging you, please help me..."

Old Master Zhang was well aware that this was the first time his daughter-in-law had ever begged someone since she had married into the Zhang family. If it hadn’t been a last resort, why would she stoop so low to plead with him? Yet, he still didn’t want to get involved. After all, this was an emotional issue between husband and wife. If he meddled, the consequences could be different. If it was because of his persuasion that they stayed together reluctantly, it would be an even greater harm to both of them. Rather than that, why not stand aside and let them deal with the issue themselves?

"Honestly speaking, I really shouldn’t intervene in this matter. It’s a hardship you and your husband should work through. If my intervention is the only way you two can continue to live together, then it might be better for you to part ways. You would be better off, giving each other freedom. You’ve always been all about freedom; you’ve never considered others’ perspectives or thought about what their families and loved ones need. You only see what you want and care about, never considering what might be best for others. Things have already progressed to this point; coming to me is useless. I won’t help you..."

Xia Jing couldn’t believe that her own father-in-law could be so ruthless. Even now, when things had come to such a pass, he still wouldn’t offer a helping hand. Did she really mean so little to her father-in-law?

"Dad, why won’t you help me just this once? Can’t it be just this one time? All these years, you’ve never done anything for me or your son; now, when it comes down to it, you even turn us away, unwilling to even offer a helping hand. Do you realize? Losing me will cause pain in your son’s heart. Don’t you care about whether your son lives or dies?" Xia Jing threatened Old Master Zhang.

"I want to ask you, do you truly believe I should help you? Look into your heart and tell me, in all these years, you haven’t fulfilled your duties as a daughter-in-law, not even the slightest towards your own son, so what gives you the right to say such things to me? When you’re in trouble, you think of asking others for help, but have you ever helped anyone when they were in trouble? You only kick them when they’re down. I must admit, when you originally extended a helping hand and sacrificed all your possessions to save Zhang Corporation for me, a stranger, I was truly grateful. But I eventually realized that even that price had to be repaid, and because of it, I chose to have you stay with my son forever. Yet, in the end, my grandson didn’t receive a trace of love from his own parents. Perhaps it’s time to end your decade-long marriage; there’s no good outcome for you both. Why cling to each other and drag each other down? The freedom you desire, our Zhang Family can’t provide. Only when you’re truly free, can you chase everything you need. If you choose to stay with my son, then you’ll have no freedom for the rest of your life. If you can disregard your own flesh and blood, how could you sacrifice your freedom for my son?"

Xia Jing knew Old Master Zhang spoke the truth; she had always been selfish, how could she possibly give up everything she had been chasing for someone else?

But no matter what, she still didn’t want to give up the person she trusted the most, for she felt that living without her beloved would be worse than death.

"Dad, please, have mercy on me!" Xia Jing cried as she spoke to Old Master Zhang.

"You ask me to have mercy on you now, but did you ever think how pitiful your son was when you abandoned him? You never thought to have mercy on your son then, nor on this old man. You made all your decisions unilaterally. What right do you have now to beg for my forgiveness?" Old Master Zhang remained unyielding; he knew he couldn’t be soft-hearted with someone like Xia Jing, otherwise, he would be the one to suffer in the end. He was not the kind of person who feared loss; he had suffered enough but couldn’t afford to be taken advantage of by Xia Jing again, having already been tricked and wronged by her once before.

"I know I did you wrong in the past, and I wronged my own son, but it’s been over a decade, why keep harping on the past? Dwelling on it benefits neither you nor me; it only brings more heartache, and a family will never find peace. You both should understand what my son cherishes the most. He holds you, his grandfather, in the highest regard because in his heart, you are his sky, the one who holds up his piece of the heavens. If you fall, how could he possibly find happiness? The same goes for me; my sky is held up by your son. If I lose him, my sky will collapse. How will I manage to live on? Dad, everyone makes mistakes; don’t hold onto the one day someone errs, always remember that you too may err one day. I beg you, please help me..."
