Chapter 1178 - 1028: Unexpected Events (Part 7)
Xia Jing poured herself a glass of water, and after drinking it, she walked to the bed and lay down. She gently closed her eyes, and soon the room was filled with the sound of snoring—Xia Jing was asleep.
Xia Jing entered her dreams, but Zhang Zhentian was still running around busily searching for her. After arriving in the UK, Zhang Zhentian found a place to stay and asked everyone he could about Xia Jing’s whereabouts. Yet, no one would tell him. Exhausted from his search, he returned to his lodging deep in thought.
"Xia Jing, oh Xia Jing, where are you? Do you know that I’ve already arrived in the UK? I heard nothing from you when I was at home and longed desperately for news. Now, even though I’ve come to where you are, this place is so vast. Where should I go to find you? Please come out; I don’t know where else to search." Zhang Zhentian murmured to himself.
Xia Jing slept soundly and sweetly at home, but Zhang Zhentian tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
Ring, ring. The telephone at Old Master Zhang’s house rang. Aunt Xu was about to answer it when Old Master Zhang stopped her.
"Aunt Xu, let me get it. It’s quite late already; you should go rest." Old Master Zhang said, "You’ve worked hard for so many years, go and take a break."
Aunt Xu replied to Old Master Zhang, "Master, please don’t say that. These are things I should do. I have long been without family, and it was you who took me in and gave me a job. I receive a salary from you, eat your food, live in your house... You’ve been so good to me, yet I have nothing to repay you with."
Feeling a bit awkward, Old Master Zhang said, "Aunt Xu, you go on and rest. I’ll answer the phone; otherwise, the caller might hang up."
Aunt Xu, not finding anything more to say, nodded to Old Master Zhang and went to sleep.
Old Master Zhang picked up the phone and asked, "Hello, whom do you wish to speak with?"
Recognizing his father’s voice, Zhang Zhentian spoke, "Dad, it’s me. You’re still awake?"
Old Master Zhang, hearing that it was Zhang Zhentian, asked, "Zhentian, are you doing well in the UK? Have you found Xia Jing yet?"
"Dad, I called to ask if you know which area Xia Jing is in? I forgot to ask when I left, and it only hit me when I was on the plane that I didn’t know where she is." After searching with no success, Zhang Zhentian decided to call and ask his father.
"Zhentian, there’s something I’m not sure if I should say..."
"Dad, just say whatever you need to say."
"Zhentian, the day you left for the UK, which was yesterday, Xia Jing called shortly after you left."
"Dad, what did Xia Jing say? Please tell me quickly." Hearing that Xia Jing had called, Zhang Zhentian eagerly inquired.
"She just called to say she was safe. Xia Jing mentioned she doesn’t want to see you right now and asked me not to tell you where she is." Old Master Zhang relayed what Xia Jing had told him.
"Did she tell you where exactly she is?" Zhang Zhentian asked persistently, unwilling to give up.
"No, she doesn’t want to see you now, so it’s up to you to figure things out," Old Master Zhang advised Zhang Zhentian.
"I understand, Dad. I don’t have anything else, so I’ll hang up for now."
"Zhentian, remember what you promised me."
"I remember." With that, Zhang Zhentian hung up the phone.
Zhang Zhentian sat in the chair, lost in thought. "Xia Jing, I understand I’m at fault. How long until you return to my side? How long will you keep avoiding me? Please contact me soon."
As he closed his eyes, Zhang Zhentian slowly drifted into sleep. In his dreams, he reunited with Xia Jing.
After several hours, Zhang Zhentian gradually fell into a slumber. Meanwhile, Xia Jing stirred, drowsily opening her blurred eyes.
Gazing at the ceiling, Xia Jing silently pondered, "Zhang Zhentian, oh Zhang Zhentian, what do you want me to do? After saying such hurtful things to me, why did you come all the way to the UK to find me? Isn’t this just making things difficult for me?"
After thinking for a while, Xia Jing fell asleep again.
Early the next morning, around three o’clock, Zhang Zhentian awoke to the buzz of his phone. Filled with hope, he picked it up, hoping Xia Jing had messaged him. But to his disappointment, it was just a low battery notification. Seeing that it was still early, he tried to get some more sleep, though he found it impossible. Inwardly, he thought about Xia Jing, reminiscing every day he spent with her, longing for her presence. Yet, he realized this was wishful thinking, uncertain if Xia Jing, also in the UK, felt the same.
