Chapter 1080 - 931 - The Mood at That Time_2
Zhang Zhentian couldn’t understand what heavenly law he had violated, causing him to lose favor in his home twice in just one day, endure his wife’s cold shoulder and his father’s threats. He couldn’t help but scream loudly, "Oh heavens, what is all this about, who did I offend?"
Rum rum rum... rum rum rum... Just as Zhang Zhentian finished shouting at the ceiling, suddenly a thunderous noise rattled, leaving Zhang Zhentian stunned by the sound of thunder. He had no idea what unpardonable act he had committed for it to thunder on a perfectly sunny day. Xia Jing, who had been asleep, was startled awake by the noise. She thought it was raining outside, but she didn’t mind and went back to sleep.
Around noon, Xia Jing got up, stretched lazily, and felt that she had slept really well—a comfort she hadn’t experienced in a long time.
Xia Jing was happy now, but Zhang Zhentian wasn’t so lucky. He thought it must be his repeated mistreatment of Xia Jing that even the heavens couldn’t stand anymore, hence the thunder on a clear day. Seeing Xia Jing awake, he quickly went up to her and asked, "Darling, are you hungry? Tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll make it for you!"
Xia Jing was baffled by Zhang Zhentian’s abnormal behavior. She raised her hand to Zhang Zhentian’s forehead.
Zhang Zhentian didn’t know what Xia Jing was doing. He asked her, "Darling, what are you doing?"
"I glanced outside; the sun didn’t come out from the west. So I’m checking your head to see if you have a fever and have gone silly!" Xia Jing said bluntly to Zhang Zhentian.
Zhang Zhentian rolled his eyes at Xia Jing and said, "Am I really so abnormal today?"
"Yes, for over a month now, you’ve never spoken to me this gently. Tell me, what’s your motive behind this!" Xia Jing thought Zhang Zhentian’s sudden kindness must have a purpose. She dared not easily accept his kindness else it would become hard to reckon later.
"I have no ulterior motive, I just purely want to make you something to eat since you slept for so long. Surely you’re hungry?" Zhang Zhentian grinned and said to Xia Jing.
Xia Jing felt that Zhang Zhentian’s grinning bode no good, so she glanced at him and said, "Acting nice without motive means either a thief or a scoundrel! So just tell me what’s really going on, I will do my best to help you, alright?"
"Xia Jing, why are you like this? I said I have no other motives, I genuinely want to cook a meal for you. I realize my mistakes from before, I hope you won’t take it to heart, forgive me will you?" Zhang Zhentian was anxious. No matter what he said, Xia Jing wouldn’t believe him, making him question his own credibility.
"Don’t take it to heart? But I’ve already taken it to heart, what do you say to that?" Xia Jing blinked at Zhang Zhentian. This question left him stumped. How would he know what to say; he had spoken without thinking, not expecting Xia Jing to throw the question back at him!
"What? Can’t even answer? Seeing as you can’t, why should I forgive you?" Xia Jing was determined today to show Zhang Zhentian she wasn’t a pushover, not someone easily manipulated!
"Darling, I didn’t mean that, I truly want to cook a meal to express my apology and hope you will forgive me!" Zhang Zhentian held Xia Jing’s hand and spoke to her.
"Are you sincerely apologizing, or just putting on a show for me?" Xia Jing removed Zhang Zhentian’s hand, smirking at him.
"Darling, I’m sincerely apologizing, not just pretending for you, I really know I was wrong, can you just forgive me?" Zhang Zhentian said as he blinked his eyes.
Xia Jing knew what Zhang Zhentian had in mind, so she quickly said, "Stop trying to pull those tricks on me, just say what needs saying. Acting sincere with your apologies like that, I see you’re genuinely trying to annoy me!"
"No, no, I really don’t mean that. As long as you can forgive me, I’ll do whatever you say from now on, isn’t that okay?"
Xia Jing thought this was a good suggestion. She asked Zhang Zhentian, "So does that mean whatever I ask you to do from now on, you’ll do?"
Listening to Xia Jing’s question, Zhang Zhentian felt hopeful. He quickly nodded to Xia Jing and said, "That’s right, as long as you forgive me, I’ll do whatever you say!"
"Oh, I suddenly find your room uncomfortable to sleep in, the guest room was more comfortable..." Xia Jing pretended to be troubled and said to Zhang Zhentian.
"No problem, we can sleep in the guest room together then!" Zhang Zhentian understood Xia Jing’s meaning; she was testing if Zhang Zhentian could truly fulfill his promises.
"But I feel uncomfortable with two people sleeping together..."
"That’s easy, you sleep on the bed and I’ll sleep on the floor!"
Xia Jing couldn’t believe Zhang Zhentian would go to such lengths. She continued to say to him, "Oh, with you around I sleep uncomfortably..."
Zhang Zhentian understood what Xia Jing meant. He said to her, "No worries, you sleep inside and I’ll sleep outside!"
"Oh, I’ve been asleep all day and haven’t eaten anything. I feel like my stomach is growling!" Xia Jing sighed and said.
Zhang Zhentian turned and headed to the kitchen, saying to Xia Jing, "You wait, I’ll make something delicious, wait for the love meal I’m making for you!"
Xia Jing didn’t say anything more. She watched Zhang Zhentian’s busy figure in the kitchen and murmured to herself, "If only you had known earlier, why make it so difficult?"
