Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 1298: Deep Father-Son Affection

Chapter 1298: Deep Father-Son Affection

The longswords made of Refined Steel in their hands couldn’t inflict the slightest harm on the Chaos.Unlike the Petrification Technique, the innate ability of the Fierce Stone Demon, Chaos doesn’t have an invincible defense like rock. However, whenever the longsword fell on its body, its skin would sink slightly, becoming incredibly flexible. The sharp longsword had nowhere to exert force, instead seeming to sink into a mass of soft mud, impossible to pull out.

This is said to be the innate ability of the Chaotic Beasts—Chaos Skill, and like the equally famous Taowu and Qiongqi, breaking through its unique soft defense is extremely challenging.

Chaos stretched out its front claws, catching the falling personal soldiers, and with a squeeze and a rub, tossed them away again.

Everyone heard the sound of their bones cracking. Even if by chance they weren’t killed instantly, this blow would undoubtedly be fatal. A terrifying emotion began to spread among the crowd, sending chills down everyone’s spine.

"Heh... heh... heh..." Chaos opened its big mouth, emitting a bizarre sound that seemed like laughter. Perhaps to it, this was a very amusing game, or perhaps a trick.

Very soon, those dozens of Black-armored Guards were kneaded into a mass, with no sign of life. Chaos, with that bizarre laughing sound, charged again into the formation of the Black-armored Guards.

Like a giant stone thrown into a black lake, amid screams, dozens more personal soldiers were struck into the air. Their seemingly astounding defensive battle armor was utterly ineffective in the face of Chaos, only awaiting the next massacre.

"Quick, close the city gates," Han Yan said to the City Guard leader.

Though the Chaotic Beasts are mighty, Dingbian City is the first stronghold at Shangyue’s northwestern frontier, its walls robust and thick. Even Chaos might not breach it.

The old general glanced at Han Yan, then at the terrified Wu Ziyue outside the city, and shook his head woodenly.

"Do you want the entire city’s populace to bury him?" Han Yan said, exasperated.

"If we close the gates and watch him die outside, do you think we wouldn’t have to bury him too?" the old general replied with a bitter laugh.

Han Yan then realized that if Dingbian City were breached by the Exotic Beasts, it wouldn’t affect ordinary civilians if Wu Ziyue died in the chaos. But if they close the gates, watching him be tormented to death by Chaos, the Shoulder-to-shoulder King certainly wouldn’t spare these City Guard soldiers or the city’s civilians.

Even if they aren’t killed on the spot, they will be exiled to the wastelands, the same ending as being buried alongside him.

This damn menace, if he wants to die, he should just die, but he’s dragging so many innocents with him. Han Yan cursed inwardly.

"General Zhou, I’ll lead the forces out to rescue Lord City Master, you guys hold the fort. As soon as Lord City Master returns, lower the city gates immediately," the old general ordered a young officer under him.

"Father, let me go," the young officer said, tears glistening in his eyes.

Han Yan just realized these two were father and son.

"General Zhou, are you defying military orders?" the old general roared sternly.

"I... I dare not!" The young officer quivered, bowing in response.

"Remember, as soon as Lord City Master returns, lower the city gates immediately. The lives of a million people in the city are in your hands," the old general said with a serious face.

"Yes, I shall obey," replied the young officer.

"Take care," the old general finally softened his expression, patting his shoulder gently. Only then did he show any hint of reluctance.

The young officer raised his head, tears finally spilling from his eyes. He knew when his father went out this time, he wasn’t expecting to return.

"All soldiers, follow me out of the city!" the old general roared, charging through the city gates first.

Behind him, hundreds of City Guard soldiers shouted in unison, closely following him.

The spears were like a forest, swords like snow; their posture was so heroic, yet so tragic.

Amid cries of battle, nearly a hundred City Guard soldiers charged into the fray, only to be met by Chaos’s steel-like hardened paws.

The thunderous shouts turned into helpless screams, and the sound of cracking bones echoed relentlessly. In just the blink of an eye, nearly half of the hundred City Guard soldiers were killed or wounded.

Even the Black-armored Guards, with their formidable defense and exceptional martial arts, were no match for the Chaotic Beasts. What chance did these less equipped and skilled City Guard soldiers have?

Ruthless cold light swept across the fields, whistling sharply like an ancient elegy.

"Lord City Master, go!" The old general already in the crowd, grabbing the terrified Wu Ziyue and forcefully throwing him toward the city gates.

Wu Ziyue snapped out of his daze, spreading his body mid-air, lightly landing on the ground, and then running frantically toward the gates.

"Roar!" Seeing someone escaping right under its nose, Chaos was furious, letting out an angry roar.

The roar shook the heavens, and the earth trembled. An invisible light descended from the sky, enveloping Wu Ziyue.

Wu Ziyue stumbled and fell to the ground, too terrified to remember to get up, instead crawling forward desperately on hands and knees, like a loach trapped in shallow mud.

This coward! Han Yan was so angry she almost wanted to rush forward and stab the guy to death.

She could tell that the invisible light was imbued with the fury and divine beast prowess of the Chaotic Beasts. But judging from Wu Ziyue’s skills, he was a Sixth-level Sword Master, and even if influenced, shouldn’t be so pathetically affected as to be unable to stand.

Chaos evidently wouldn’t let Wu Ziyue escape, striding over, and any Black-armored Guards and City Guard soldiers in its path were all knocked aside.

The old general’s skill wasn’t weak, being a Fifth Rank Sword Master, but could only barely withstand one of its attacks, swatted away on the first swipe, spitting blood and unable to stand again.

Seeing soldier after soldier struck into the air, doomed to die, with the Chaotic Beasts drawing closer to Wu Ziyue, inside the city, everyone wore expressions of despair.

"All soldiers, with me out to fight to the death!" The young officer looked around and ordered in a deep voice.

At this point, holding Dingbian City was meaningless. Since Wu Ziyue’s death spelled doom for them, they might as well fight to the end.

"Lord Mu, Doctor Sun, we’ll do our best to buy you some time. You should leave Dingbian City immediately," the young officer turned back and said to Han Yan and others, then sighed, telling the surrounding civilians, "And you too, go as far as you can."
