Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!

Chapter 346: The Thing You Want

Chapter 346: The Thing You Want

Audrey Sutton followed his gaze and noticed the girl.Because the farm mostly consisted of middle-aged people, having a girl in her early twenties there was quite conspicuous.

Audrey immediately understood and teasingly said to Norman Sutton, "Isn’t she the girl Mom mentioned last time? Your girlfriend?"

"Girlfriend, my foot!" Without a second thought, Norman Sutton retorted back to Audrey and quickly added, "Do you really think she’s a match for me? What a joke!"

Audrey looked at Norman with a smirk, clearly not believing what he was saying.

Norman turned away, casually throwing away the foxtail grass he was holding: "Let’s go!"

Audrey was pulled away by him while curiously glancing back at the girl. When the girl turned around to get something, Audrey got a clearer look at her face, instantly overlapping with someone in her mind.

Isn’t this the girl who greeted Phoebe King during the break in English class the other day?

Norman didn’t give her much time or opportunity to investigate, directly pulling her away from the flower field.

When asked to pick strawberries, he wouldn’t; but now walking from the flower field to the parking area, he grabbed and ate over a dozen strawberries in one go. If Audrey hadn’t stopped him, half the basket might have been gone.

In the car, Audrey kept inquiring about the girl, asking to the point where Norman completely ignored her.

Audrey insistently said, "I knew something seemed up about you going to the orchard today, turns out you were off to see a girl."

"See my foot! Keep nagging and I’ll throw you out."

Audrey chuckled, undeterred, and asked again, "What’s her name anyway? Can’t you at least tell me her name?"

Annoyed, Norman replied, "How should I know what her name is? I don’t even know her!"

"Hmph, stingy." Audrey smirked, "She’s in the same grade as me; I saw her in Brother Xavier’s class that day. Next time, I’ll ask her name for you if we meet again."

Norman just sulked and ignored Audrey.

After lunch, Audrey took a lunchbox and strawberries to Starfield.

She arrived relatively late today. The company employees had already gone out for lunch, and with it being the weekend, only a few people were working overtime. This made the building seem a bit deserted.

Audrey went straight to Shane Warner’s office. When she pushed the door open, she saw him standing by the window talking on the phone.

He glanced back at her, and Audrey simply smiled at him. Seeing that he was on the phone, she remained silent and just placed the lunchbox on the nearby coffee table.

Shane saw her arrival and wrapped up his call quickly. He walked over, glanced at the food on the coffee table, and asked Audrey, "Why are you so late today?"

Audrey replied, "I ate at home before coming, it took a little longer than expected. You should eat now."

Shane sat on the sofa opposite her, took the chopsticks she handed him, and asked, "Where are the strawberries you picked?"

Audrey pointed to the small basket beside her and lifted the floral cloth covering it, revealing the shiny red strawberries beneath.

"I washed them at home. They’re freshly picked; do you want to try one?" As she spoke, she picked one up and held it out to him.

Shane didn’t reach out to take it but leaned over and bit half of it.

"Is it sweet?"

Shane nodded, and Audrey plucked the leaves from the remaining half and fed it to him.

"Is Brother Xavier and the others in the company? Shall I send some over to them?"

Shane frowned, "Why give them away? Just keep them for yourself."

"There’s still another basket. You can’t eat them all. I picked plenty already."

Shane picked at his food with the chopsticks, "I can finish them."

Audrey knew he was just being stingy, probably not wanting the strawberries she personally picked to be eaten by others. However, she knew he didn’t particularly fancy these sweet and tangy things, and trying a couple was already to give her face.

"If you like them, I can pick more for you the next time I have a chance. Freshly picked ones taste best. You eat first, and I’ll send this basket over to them."

Shane stayed silent, clearly not pleased, but Audrey had already taken the basket and left.

Shane watched her leave thoughtfully, his thumb lightly rubbing the silver ring on his forefinger.

He took a deep breath, lowered his gaze, and continued with his meal, reminding himself not to overthink. How could she be someone with ulterior motives based on her current demeanor?

Even if she approached him with a motive, he just hoped she would play this act forever.

Even if he uncovered something, he would pretend to know nothing, as long as it didn’t ruin the happiness they had now.

Audrey stayed in the company with him in the afternoon. Although she said she accompanied him, they each did their own thing.

Without her painting tools in Starfield, she lay on the sofa playing mobile games. After more than two hours of play, she got sleepy and curled up on the sofa, falling asleep.

Shane checked the time on his watch, picked up the coat on the back of the chair, and went over to drape it gently over her before taking the documents to the meeting room.

It was four-thirty in the afternoon.

Audrey was awakened by the ringtone of her phone. Drowsily, she reached for it beside her head and saw that it was an unfamiliar number.

"Hello?"

"Is this Miss Sutton?"

The voice on the other end instantly cleared Audrey’s sleepiness. It was an oddly mechanical voice, clearly modified by special software, making it impossible to determine if it was male or female.

Audrey sat up on the sofa and asked, "Who are you?"

"I have something you want."

Audrey: "Something I want?"

"Come downstairs now. I believe you’ll find it interesting."

Without allowing Audrey to ask anything further, the call was ended from the other side.

Audrey was left in a fog of confusion, wondering if it was some prank, causing an eerie feeling in her heart.

She got up and went to the window, looking downwards. From the high building, she could see the bustling roads below, with nothing seeming out of the ordinary.

Even though she herself didn’t know what she really wanted, this call undeniably piqued her curiosity.

The caller asked her to go downstairs — this was Starfield, and there were security personnel downstairs, making it relatively safe.

Audrey decided to check it out.

The lobby downstairs appeared normal. Audrey stepped outside Starfield’s entrance, looking around but saw no suspicious people.

Was this a scam call? Or a harassing call?

Confused, she turned to head back, thinking of asking her second brother to help check the incoming number.

Suddenly, a young girl’s voice came from behind: "Sister."

Audrey turned around and saw a little girl of about four or five standing by the door, asking in her childlike voice, "Are you Sister Audrey Sutton?"

Audrey nodded, and the little girl handed her an envelope, which immediately reminded Audrey of the mysterious package she had received not long ago.
