Chapter 340: Already Pregnant

Phoebe was struggling with jet lag and was really sleepy, barely making it through class. She then urged Audrey to invite Stephen for a meal.Audrey, eager to help, rushed to catch up with Stephen as class ended, jogging alongside him with a smile, "Hey bro, want to grab lunch together?"

Stephen glanced at her. His sister, who never invited him out to eat, suddenly did so, making him suspicious of her motives, clearly knowing Phoebe was involved.

But since the invitation came from his sister, Stephen declined quite gently, "I’ve already planned to have lunch with colleagues. Aren’t you having lunch with Shane today?"

"He’s coming to the school to see me later, so we’ll just eat nearby. Why don’t you join us?"

"Go eat by yourself, I have things to do."

"What things? You always have time for lunch with your colleagues every day, and your sister rarely invites you out, you know."

Stephen glanced down at her, "You have the nerve to say that."

"Hehe." Audrey, acting coy, clung to Stephen’s arm, "Come on, big bro, just come with me~"

The sister he’d spoiled since she was young; Stephen couldn’t resist Audrey’s begging, and with his face stern, he said, "I’m going to the office to drop off my books."

Taking that as a yes, Audrey smiled with delight, let go of Stephen’s arm, and said, "We’ll wait for you downstairs then."

"Okay."

Stephen heard the "we" but didn’t dwell on it.

Once Stephen walked away, Phoebe hurried over to Audrey and asked, "So, how did it go?"

Audrey smiled, making an "OK" gesture, and smugly said, "Piece of cake."

Pretending to sigh, Phoebe said, "You’re so lucky. If I asked him out, he’d probably just ignore me."

Avoiding Stephen running into her and then leaving, Phoebe didn’t wait downstairs with Audrey, but instead went to the restaurant to book a table.

Audrey also messaged Shane the location, asking him to drive directly there.

Once Stephen came down from the office building, Audrey left with him to the restaurant.

When they arrived at the restaurant entrance, Shane’s car had just pulled up to the curb.

Audrey happily ran over waving at him, as Shane glanced at her and parked in front of the restaurant.

Seeing her jogging over, Shane unbuckled and opened the car door, Audrey slipping her arm through his asked, "Did the hospital results come back?"

"Yeah, they told me this morning."

"So, how is it?"

"She’s pregnant."

Audrey was briefly stunned, looking down at her stomach in shock, then looking back up at Shane, "Are you serious?!"

"Kidding." Shane coolly replied, then nodding with a smile at Stephen beside them as a greeting.

Audrey playfully punched him in the back before saying, "Big bro is joining us for lunch today."

Shane just gave a light "Mm," without questioning further.

Audrey, playing with Shane’s hands while holding Stephen’s arm, led them inside the store, scanning around before spotting Phoebe at a booth by the window waving at them.

The plan had been set, and the two began their act.

Phoebe approached, pretending it was unplanned, "What a coincidence?! Audrey, Shane, you’re eating here too? I’m by myself and haven’t ordered, want to join?"

Audrey readily agreed, "Sure, why not."

The two men looked on with expressionless faces at their exaggerated performance.

It was a rectangular table, four-person booth, two on each side.

To create an opportunity for Stephen and Phoebe, Audrey naturally sat with Shane, leaving Stephen no choice but to sit next to Phoebe.

Though Stephen barely looked at Phoebe throughout, Phoebe was glad he didn’t walk away after seeing her.

Perhaps it was out of courtesy because of Audrey and Shane that he didn’t leave.

Phoebe didn’t mind too much; it was the first time she and Stephen were eating at a restaurant together, and most importantly, he was sitting right next to her.

Previously at his house, the dining table was too long, and he was always seated far away from her.

Two menus on the table, Audrey holding one snuggled up to Shane to look together.

Phoebe looked at her menu, then at Stephen, and gave a dry smile, slowly passing the menu to him, "Teacher Sutton, see what you’d like to eat?"

Stephen glanced down at the menu pushed in front of him but didn’t reach out to flip through it, coldly saying, "Anything’s fine."

Phoebe wasn’t sure if he really meant "anything’s fine" or if seeing her made him uninterested in the menu.

Dejectedly retrieving the menu, she heard Audrey say, "My brother isn’t picky, so we can just order."

"...Do you eat spicy food?" Phoebe asked not to Stephen but looking at Audrey.

Even with Stephen right beside her.

Audrey, wanting spicy food, quickly nodded, not considering her brother’s preferences.

Shane, however, gave her a pointed look, "Only mildly spicy."

Audrey pouted silently, knowing she could only freely eat whatever she wanted when dining out with her girlfriends.

Most dishes were chosen by Audrey and Phoebe, while Phoebe recounted her experiences abroad, and Shane, like a teacher on a house visit, inquired Stephen about Audrey’s studies.

Thankfully, her brother spared her in front of Shane and didn’t report her shortcomings.

Over the meal, although Phoebe and Stephen sat side by side, they hardly interacted directly.

Phoebe noticed Stephen wasn’t as resistant as before, causing her to restrain herself a bit, behaving more reservedly, fearing he’d become defensive.

Even though Stephen didn’t engage with her during the meal, Phoebe felt it was an accomplishment that he sat beside her and had the meal.

After the meal, Audrey excused herself by saying she had to visit the hospital to collect test results, pulling Shane’s hand as they left to give Phoebe and Stephen some alone time.

Leaving Phoebe and Stephen alone, the atmosphere quickly turned awkward.

"Teacher Sutton, do you have plans this afternoon?" Phoebe looked hopefully at Stephen.

Stephen stood up, grabbing his jacket, and answered plainly, "Yes."

Phoebe stood up too, matching his pace, "But I thought you didn’t have classes this afternoon?"
