Chapter 626 - 625: Another Surgery Needed
Ethan Grant went out to find the doctor to ask about Serena Sullivan’s condition.
He hadn’t reached the doctor’s office when he saw a young man in a white coat blocking his way.
Ethan didn’t pay attention,
"You’re Serena’s man!"
Ignored, Mo Da leaned against the wall and smiled as he questioned Ethan.
Ethan stopped in his tracks, turning his head to examine the young doctor in front of him.
He knew the doctor responsible for Serena’s examination was about fifty years old, not the unreliable-looking man in front of him.
"Surname Mo!"
Mo Da introduced himself casually, in a flat voice.
Ethan looked at Mo Da in surprise. To treat Serena, he had found a lot of information and knew there was a skilled doctor specializing in neurology in the Imperial Capital with the surname Mo.
He had sought various connections to get Mo Da to see Serena.
However, Dr. Mo was hard to reach and would only see patients based on his mood and if he felt a connection.
Ethan was very surprised that the young man before him was the legendary Mo Da, and even more so that he had initiated the conversation about Serena’s condition.
"I saved her."
Mo Da noticed Ethan’s confusion and turned back into the office, with Ethan following him inside.
"Another surgery is needed!"
Mo Da sat down and talked directly about Serena’s situation.
"Surgery?"
Ethan’s heartbeat suddenly quickened, a sense of foreboding sweeping over him.
"Wasn’t it said that the blood clot in her brain was completely cleared? Why is surgery still needed?"
Unconsciously, Ethan’s speech sped up, and his voice grew cold and hard.
"No!"
Mo Da’s voice was flat, "The previous surgery could only be considered half successful."
He had lied to get the equipment from Old Master Xu.
However, as it was a matter of life, he didn’t want to ruin his reputation. He went abroad to look for information specifically for Serena’s condition.
"Half successful?"
Ethan felt the warmth draining from his body, his eyes dry and his voice lightly trembling, "Will another surgery make everything okay?"
In Solaria, after learning about Serena’s condition, he felt like he was plunged into an abyss.
Yet the inner pain pulled him back.
These days, he and Serena had reconciled, believing that everything in the future would be happy and sweet.
But destiny was always so cruel. Was it punishing him for his mistake four years ago?
Even so, if anyone’s legs should have been ruined, it should have been his, not Serena’s!
Facing life and death, it shouldn’t have been her!
After listening to Mo Da, Ethan felt drained of all strength. He realized he should have anticipated it earlier, he shouldn’t have been complacent, thinking that Serena had recovered.
If she really was better, why would she still be in a wheelchair? Why couldn’t she stand on her own legs?
Ethan didn’t know how he managed to walk out of the office. No matter how he fought against fate, the reality was fixed and unchangeable, leaving him feeling fearful and despondent!
He stood in the corridor for a long time, not daring to return to the ward.
Even if he had to go back, he needed to adjust his mood first, not to let Serena notice anything amiss.
At this moment, she was full of confidence in life, ready for everything, determined to live on even if it meant being in a wheelchair.
If he told her the truth!
Ethan took out a cigarette from his suit pocket. Having promised Serena to quit smoking, he rarely smoked. But as the urge hit, he held the cigarette, about to light it.
"What did the doctor say?"
A cool voice rang out, and the cigarette fell to the ground as Ethan failed to light it. He squatted down to pick up the cigarette.
