Chapter 1420 - 1414: Son, Did I Just Hear from Your Mom That You Only Have a Grandmother, Not a Paternal Grandma?
"Evander is back; why are you home from work so early today?"Worried her straightforward daughter might say something that could spark an argument, Juliana Lancaster quickly changed the subject.
She opened the shoe cabinet to get slippers, but Evander Lancaster stopped her.
"Mom, you’re the elder here, why are you serving me? Please, go sit on the sofa; I’ll do it myself."
"You child, it’s just a pair of slippers, no need for so much fuss." Juliana Lancaster laughed and straightened up, watching Evander change into the slippers before turning to walk to the kitchen.
"Evander, take a break first. I didn’t know you’d be back so early; dinner’s not ready yet."
"Mom, just start cooking the rice; I’ll make the dishes later." Evander Lancaster shouted to his mother-in-law’s back as she entered the kitchen, muttering, "You’ve been working hard all day, I’ll do it."
"Why did you come back so early today?" Sophia Hamilton asked as she chewed on beef jerky, turning to look at the man sitting beside her. Evander Lancaster ignored her, instead lifting her maternity dress and pressing his ear against her belly.
His thin lips curled into a smile, and his phoenix eyes were filled with a gentle laughter. He tenderly stroked Sophia Hamilton’s bulging belly and spoke to their son.
"Son, were you listening to your mom today?"
Sophia Hamilton was used to Evander’s antics; ever since her belly started showing, he’d talk to their son every day after work.
The amazing thing is, since the sixth month, every time he spoke, the little guy inside would start moving his arms and legs, as if he could hear him.
Sophia Hamilton leisurely chewed on beef jerky while Evander Lancaster continued his "conversation" with their son.
"Son, when I just got back, I heard your mom say you only have a Grandmother, not a grandma; that’s a lie,"
Sophia Hamilton wasn’t bothered by him overhearing her complaints and continued to nibble on beef jerky contentedly. In the kitchen, Juliana Lancaster felt flustered.
It wasn’t her intention to eavesdrop; the apartment was only so big, a hundred square meters, and the kitchen was connected to the living room. Hearing what Evander said made Juliana Lancaster so nervous she nearly spilled the rice she had just scooped, thankfully catching it with her other hand.
Juliana Lancaster’s heart pounded, fearing the very thing she worried about. Her daughter spoke about Evander’s mother this way; he would surely be upset.
With her presence, though it likely wouldn’t escalate into an argument, there would be some displeasure.
Placing the scooped rice on the countertop, Juliana Lancaster headed towards the living room, intending to mediate so the couple wouldn’t sulk over this.
But before she took a few steps, her careless daughter refused to admit her mistake and instead added fuel to the fire.
Juliana Lancaster had just reached the door when she heard her daughter say, "I wasn’t lying to the son; I’ll tell him this when he’s born! Your mom forced me to the hospital, if it weren’t for Director Moore, our son might not have made it."
"Knock it off, jinx!" Evander Lancaster spat a few times, looking displeased at Sophia Hamilton, "Our son is fine! Never say that again!"
Realizing her slip-up, Sophia Hamilton sheepishly stuck out her tongue.
Evander Lancaster kept his stern face, warning, "Never curse our son again; say it again, and I’ll spank you!"
Sophia Hamilton pouted, "Seems like he’s only your son. Isn’t he my son too? I want him to be well more than anyone!"
"Yes, yes, he’s our son. No more instilling unhealthy thoughts into his mind."
