Chapter 995: I Really Didn’t Expect You to Be Afraid of the Dark
It must be stifling curled up in bed...
"I... was sleeping, what are you doing? How’s the collaboration going, have you had dinner?"
Realizing I sounded a bit aggressive, I wished I could smack my own mouth.
Mo Han didn’t seem to notice anything wrong and casually replied, "I’ve eaten. I’m in the hotel now, reviewing documents. Why are you sleeping so early today, are you feeling unwell?"
"No."
I can’t possibly say I’m not used to being alone, right?
Yet, without me saying it, Mo Han did, "Could it be that you feel a bit empty being alone in the house, and you’re not used to it?"
The corners of my mouth twitched involuntarily. Did he have to guess so accurately?
Very reluctant to admit it, I cleared my throat and said, "No, it’s just that the power suddenly went out, and I felt a bit uneasy and wanted someone to talk to."
Unsure if he’d believe this off-the-cuff excuse.
"Power outage? Want me to call property management to check if there’s an issue with the main switch?"
"No, no." Qin Yin hurriedly declined. This was just a random excuse; if property management came, I’d be exposed.
"The whole area has no power, so there’s probably a problem. No need to call property management, maybe the power will be restored tomorrow!"
For some reason, I felt a bit guilty...
"Alright then, are you afraid of staying alone in the dark house? I really didn’t expect you’d be afraid of the dark!"
He chuckled lowly, completely believing my excuse.
"Not... not really, just feel a bit uneasy walking around the house, so I hid in the bed. Um, are you busy right now? If not, can you not hang up?"
Afraid of him misunderstanding, I quickly added, "You can continue looking at your documents, just say a word or two occasionally, and maybe I won’t be as scared!"
Mo Han agreed readily, "Okay, hold on a second, I’ll get my headphones."
The receiver had some noise, and after about half a minute, Mo Han’s voice came, "Since there’s no power, you should go to sleep. If you want to talk, just talk, I’m listening. I’ll hang up when there’s no noise on your end."
"Thank you."
Because of his words, the restlessness in my heart unexpectedly calmed down, and I actually closed my eyes.
But, how could it be so easy to fall asleep, "Since I’ve known you, besides knowing you can cook and are excellent at work, what else can you do?"
Mo Han thought for a moment and replied, "Does eating count?"
His words amused me, and I couldn’t help but laugh, "Is that supposed to be a joke?"
Mo Han chuckled too, "I’m not kidding. When I was little, I was a big foodie, really chubby. At 8 or 9, I weighed over twenty pounds more than kids my age. My parents had to control my diet, no food was allowed after seven in the evening. Keeping that up slowly slimmed me down."
"I really couldn’t tell that you were quite the foodie as a kid."
Qin Yin thought for a moment and then spoke, "When I was little, I cried a lot, like really sensitive. But later, when my parents’ relationship fell apart and my father left, I stopped crying, but I often saw my mom cry. She didn’t want me to see, so she would hide and cry silently."
Her gaze turned somber as she spoke...
