Chapter 328: Deterioration
Chapter 328: Deterioration
Loren quickly pulled his hand back, now feeling extremely awkward to the extreme.
If others had seen it, Loren wouldn't have reacted much either; they would probably have genuinely thought Loren simply wanted to feel Naclis's heartbeat.
But Anna was different. She was prone to misunderstanding. Normally, if Loren went out alone with someone else, Anna would think Loren had gone to do something shady.
Loren really didn't know how to explain this to Anna. The more you explain this kind of thing, the more wrong it feels. No matter how you explain it, it sounds like trying to cover something up.
"I have a bit of a headache, I'm going back first..."
Loren patted Naclis's hair and walked back to his bedroom.
Recently, Loren had finished everything he needed to do. He had even finished brewing the Scales to Dragon potion, just waiting for the next time he encountered Noah. But Loren didn't even know if Noah was alive or dead now.
So, the bored Loren could only tease the bird. But Starnight was too clever. Even if he taught her some trick, Loren felt no sense of accomplishment.
Even before Loren obtained [Everything Has a Spirit], he could already talk to Starnight. If he wanted her to do something, he didn't need to train her at all. He could just tell her directly. He didn't even need food as a reward.
"Master Mentor!"Just as Loren was making Starnight spin around on his finger, Anna suddenly pushed open Loren's bedroom door, startling Starnight so much she fell off Loren's finger.
"What are you doing all of a sudden?"
Loren turned his head, about to question her, when he saw Anna pressing his hand against her chest.
"How does it feel? Can you feel my heartbeat?"
As she spoke, Anna pressed down even harder, so much that Loren's hand sank in.
"No, what are you doing?"
Loren quickly pulled his hand back, but the sensation from just now still lingered in his mind, refusing to fade.
To be honest, it was indeed the best feeling one.
Anna had been raised by him since childhood, raised fair and plump. Her meals were also nutritious, and she didn't need to be bound up like Laila did for the sake of disguise...
"I have things to do. If you don't have anything important, don't disturb me."
Loren rubbed his temples. First Naclis, then Anna... Loren needed some time to recover.
"Aren't you planning to go a step further?"
Anna placed her finger on her lips and said innocently.
Loren didn't reply, just looked at Anna with dead fish eyes.
"I understand. I'll come find you after I become an adult."
"No, don't!"
Loren still wanted to protest, but Anna closed the door and ran off.
"Day after day..."
With a sigh, Loren picked up Starnight and stroked the feathers on her back.
...
Today passed rather uneventfully. The public execution of the minister and his daughter had no effect on Loren. Loren just carried on doing what he usually did.
During dinner, Naclis had returned to her usual cold and aloof self, eating her dinner elegantly.
At that moment, Flossie suddenly coughed, breaking the silence and attracting everyone's attention.
She stood up holding a teapot and asked:
"Master, is there anything you'd like to drink?"
Loren guessed this was Flossie wanting to perform a magic trick, so he played along.
"I want to drink cola."
"Alright, cola."
Flossie smiled, brought the teapot in front of Loren, and poured into Loren's cup. Cola really flowed out.
Loren cooperatively clapped his hands. He actually knew the principle behind this, but he was still willing to give Flossie some face.
The teapot had a hidden compartment containing two liquids. When the corresponding hole was blocked, due to the vacuum, the corresponding liquid couldn't flow out, hence the ability to pour out different liquids.
Besides Loren, only Anna cooperatively clapped her hands. Everyone else ignored Flossie. The atmosphere was extremely awkward. Even Loren felt awkward for Flossie.
Corolla looked left and right, unsure if she should clap or not.
She knew Flossie was trying to please the master. The others could also roughly guess, which was why they ignored her.
Corolla wondered if she would be resented by the future mistress if she clapped now.
She secretly glanced around at everyone. Corolla also wasn't sure who would ultimately become her mistress. Maybe it would be all of them. That made it even more important not to clap.
Especially Naclis. Corolla could even sense the hostility emanating from Naclis. Every time she got close to Loren, she could feel Naclis's hostility.
But even so, Flossie didn't feel awkward. After performing the magic trick, she then asked Loren for a favor:
"Master Mentor, I want to keep a few pigeons to learn magic. Do you think that's okay?"
"Do as you please. Just don't make the house dirty."
This wasn't an excessive request. Besides, Flossie was originally responsible for the household hygiene anyway.
"Hooray!"
"Flossie's magic skills are still quite good."
Right then, Seraphina chimed in. Mirrorheart also looked up at Flossie but didn't pay any further attention.
Tonight passed very peacefully, as if nothing had happened, which made Loren breathe a sigh of relief.
At night, Loren lay alone in his bedroom. At his persuasion, everyone had returned to their own rooms. They only occasionally came to Loren's room, unlike before when a whole group would squeeze onto one bed.
At night, Mirrorheart quietly brought Scarlett to Loren's room. Coincidentally, Loren had been stimulated by Anna and the others during the day and needed some comforting...
The night passed without incident...
Early the next morning, Loren pushed Scarlett, who was lying on top of him, away. He yawned and walked downstairs. Mirrorheart had already prepared breakfast, and the newspapers were placed at Loren's usual seat.
Loren ate with one hand while holding a newspaper and reading with the other.
"There's also information about the Witches' Church..."
Normally, people liked to pin blame on witches, but this time seemed a bit different.
A village had been wiped out. Not even ruins were left. Just like last time, the perpetrator was likely the same person.
Loren took out a map and compared the location of the village. The second victimized village was west of the first one, not too far away.
If the perpetrator was heading in a certain direction, they would likely come to Loren's area. This matter would probably end up with Loren encountering it.
"But why?"
Loren couldn't figure out why this village would disappear. Who would benefit from its disappearance?
Normally, you could just pin this kind of thing on the Outer Gods. Some fanatical believer directly sacrificed the entire village to an Outer God. It's just that his method was a bit fast.
Being crazy doesn't mean being brainless. Outer God believers know best how to hide themselves. Without special abilities, even Loren would have trouble finding them.
But this method did remind Loren of one person. That person was a witch, a witch from the Witches' Church.
