Chapter 322: The Old Place
Chapter 322: The Old Place
"Master, can I not go?"
Standing on the rooftop, Scarlett's legs were trembling slightly.
Just standing here made her this scared. Scarlett suspected she would pass out directly once they started flying.
"If you're scared, I can find a burlap sack to put you in. That way, you won't see anything."
"That works too..."
Compared to flying directly, Scarlett decided being stuffed into a burlap sack would be more bearable.
Come to think of it, she was originally brought home by Loren in a burlap sack. This could be considered staying true to her roots.
"You'd actually choose that? I'm too lazy to go find a sack."
"Then... I have to fly directly?"
"Yes."Hearing this, Scarlett completely resigned herself to her fate, obediently wrapping her arms around Loren's neck. However, feeling Loren's body temperature did make her feel a bit more at ease.
Loren picked Scarlett up, sprouted falcon wings from his back, and soared into the sky.
The bloody moonlight dyed Loren crimson. He flew high enough that even if someone saw him, they would just think he was a passing bird.
Loren swiftly covered Scarlett's mouth, preventing her from screaming.
"Scarlett, if you vomit on me, I will absolutely spank your butt until it blossoms."
Scarlett covered her own mouth, nodded, and forced the urge to vomit back down. But then she suddenly realized she had let go of Loren's neck and almost screamed again, before forcefully clamping her own mouth shut.
Seeing Scarlett's pitiful state, Loren ultimately felt a pang of sympathy.
"Do you have any burlap sacks left in your space? Take one out."
"Oh right! I have burlap sacks in my space! I forgot."
"If you *could* remember, *that* would be strange."
Loren muttered sarcastically. Often being teased by Loren, Scarlett was already used to it and just gave a silly grin.
After stuffing Scarlett into the burlap sack, Loren flew at full speed. The things manifested by the World Card were based on Loren's own attributes, so the wings he conjured were more powerful than a falcon's natural wings. Pulling a burlap sack was nothing; he could probably pull a carriage without much difficulty.
Moreover, Loren had recently gained the abilities of the Prismatic Void-Gnawing Beast: killing intent perception, powerful bite force, and hard teeth. However, these weren't very useful to Loren.
His talent, Sensitive Heart, was far superior to the Prismatic Void-Gnawing Beast's killing intent perception. Loren could even sense danger from inanimate objects.
As for the teeth, Loren didn't think anything Requiem couldn't cleave could be bitten open by teeth.
"I should visit the Eternal Dark Abyss sometime. Many creatures there have abilities worth copying."
From obtaining the World Card until now, Loren hadn't copied any truly powerful abilities; it had only greatly increased his mobility.
If he had known he would get the World Card this quickly, he should have spared that Murmuring Dragon.
"We're here."
Loren landed on the roof of his house, casually dropping the burlap sack in his hand, revealing Scarlett inside.
Even inside the sack, Scarlett couldn't handle the stimulation and fainted.
Loren was grateful she hadn't vomited in the sack; cleaning that would have been a real hassle.
"Faint later. After we gather everything, you can faint all you want."
Carrying Scarlett over his shoulder, Loren took her into the house. However, he didn't forget to activate cognitive concealment. The Murmuring Dragon Loren killed earlier was still contributing its residual usefulness.
Under Loren's vigorous shaking, Scarlett successfully regained consciousness, packed all the equipment Loren had prepared into her Life Thief space, and then saw the setup in the laboratory, which scared her into fainting again.
"..."
Loren glanced around. It *was* quite frightening here. The floor was covered in blood-red runes and various eerie patterns, along with strange bones...
But fainting was fine too; at least Scarlett would be more docile on the way back.
Loren stuffed Scarlett back into the burlap sack, then used Blood Moon Condensed Light to thoroughly plow over the entire laboratory, erasing all traces. It now looked like an empty room with no decorations.
"Time to go back..."
Just as Loren was about to open the laboratory door, his Intuition sent a warning.
Sensing danger, Loren immediately hid to the side, placing the sack containing Scarlett behind him. He had never turned off the cognitive concealment effect.
Soon, the laboratory door was pushed open. The person was completely dark; Loren could only see a single eye on their face.
"A Dreamwalker?"
The God of Dreams was truly going all out against Loren. First, sending a fake Player to assassinate him, then sending someone into his dreams, and now sending a Dreamwalker to investigate his old home.
Dreamwalkers also had cognitive concealment abilities, so only Loren, possessing the True Sight Eye, could see through them at a glance. It was normal that Movila hadn't detected them.
And they were terrifyingly cautious, not even coming when the maid was still in the house.
Seraphina had Loren's Abyssal Gaze Eye on her. Even viewing through the Abyssal Gaze Eye, Loren's True Sight Eye would still work. So if the Dreamwalker had come then, Loren would have still discovered him.
If Loren hadn't happened to return today to retrieve his things, he truly wouldn't have known the Dreamwalker had been here.
However, even if the Dreamwalker investigated Loren's old home, he wouldn't find anything. The things Loren had in the laboratory also didn't have much impact on him. At most, they would discover he was researching necromancy. Loren could always use the excuse that he wanted to deal with the necromancers under the Plague Church.
Loren made no sound, quietly watching the Dreamwalker scan the area, but he found nothing.
As the Dreamwalker approached Loren's position, Loren instantly drew Requiem:
"Throat-Severing Slash! Deathly Silence!"
A flash of crimson light. The Dreamwalker just wanted to react when endless wails filled his ears, his power suddenly vanished, and then the entire world fell silent. His head flew off, seeing his blurry body, not even having time for blood to spray.
"Return to Earth."
After killing the Dreamwalker, Loren didn't pause for a moment, directly disposing of the Dreamwalker's corpse.
Even if he let him go, he wouldn't bring back any useful information. Loren just didn't want to let him go back.
Killing a few more would make the God of Dreams wary of him. Even the most cowardly Bountiful Church found it difficult to extend its reach here from so far away. Over these past few days, dealing with Loren had almost completely exhausted the God of Dreams' forces here.
Loren just couldn't figure out why. Could it really be just because Loren lured Cassian into the God of Dreams' territory? That's impossible; the God of Dreams didn't even know Cassian was lured by Loren.
Moreover, the gods all liked to pursue maximum benefit. They wouldn't send assassins after Loren over personal grudges.
"Could it be because of the Observer?"
