Chapter 267: A New Transaction
Chapter 267: A New Transaction
"Master Mentor, I heard you've developed a method to deal with ultraviolet light. May I see it?"
"Naturally."
Loren handed a small bottle to Ofemia. Inside was the sunscreen Loren had developed.
Ofemia took the sunscreen, dipped a finger into it, and then spoke to someone behind her:
"Extend your arm."
"Yes..."
A maid behind Ofemia extended both her arms. This wasn't the one Loren usually saw; that one held some status, at least enough to not be dragged into an experiment.
Ofemia then applied the sunscreen to one of the maid's arms, had her bring both arms together, and immediately took out a flashlight and shone it directly on them.
"Ah..."
The maid let out a heart-wrenching scream. One arm instantly turned into rotten flesh, and the arm coated with sunscreen also rapidly festered, turning into rotten meat within a few seconds."The power of the sun isn't so easily completely neutralized. This thing prevents low-level vampires from being instantly killed when facing ultraviolet lamps, giving them the ability to make a desperate counterattack before death.
"They'll only be facing ordinary people holding ultraviolet lamps. That bit of time is enough for them to turn the tables and kill their attackers."
As for the subsequent events, Loren didn't elaborate, and Ofemia understood his meaning.
Vampires don't care about human lives, and high-ranking vampires don't care about the lives of low-level vampires. What they care about is only the face of the vampire collective.
The sunscreen can't allow low-level vampires to survive in front of ultraviolet lamps, but it can let them shine and generate heat before they die. This outcome satisfied Ofemia even more.
"If high-ranking vampires use my sunscreen, the effect will be better. Sunlight's impact on them will be smaller.
"Next, I need to discuss patent matters with you..."
Even if Ofemia wasn't good at making money, as a Marquis, she certainly had talented people under her who were.
Loren wasn't very knowledgeable about these matters either. He roughly communicated with Ofemia, the gist being that the patent belonged to Loren, but Loren would give the formula to Ofemia. Her people would be responsible for production and sales, with the lion's share of the profits going to Loren.
The sunscreen could potentially yield even higher profits than Aisaco's medicine. Since the target audience was vampires, Loren's pricing was outrageously high, and Ofemia even adjusted it upward a bit further.
After signing another contract with Ofemia, Loren simply became a hands-off boss.
He had the ability to continue improving the sunscreen, but Loren chose not to. He didn't truly wish for vampires to have a good method to counter ultraviolet light. What Loren most wanted to see was the vampires and the Bloodline Rebels mutually weakening each other.
After seeing Ofemia off, Loren returned to his room. He was waiting for Aisaco's next move. Before that, Loren didn't intend to let himself or the children take any risks.
...
"Has Aisaco taken any action recently?"
Lying on the bed, Loren stroked Movila's hair and casually asked about Aisaco.
"No. Ever since attending the banquet last time, Aisaco hasn't shown his face."
Movila lay sprawled on Loren's leg, wearing an expression of pure enjoyment. The jealous Starnight gently nibbled on Loren's ear, and Loren also reached out a hand to pat Starnight's head.
"What actions are the vampires taking now?"
"They've been secretly eliminating many suspicious vampires. The highest-ranking among them was a Viscount."
"A Viscount, huh..."
Once you reach Count, that's the absolute upper echelon among vampires, basically untouchable.
The highest rank normal people and even most vampires can usually see is a Vampire Count. The next rank up, Marquis, is basically never seen. Only the vain Ofemia frequently makes appearances.
And they also don't believe any Count would abandon their lofty status to oppose the vampire hierarchy.
Aisaco's current status already places him at the pinnacle of human society. The status of a Vampire Count is even higher than that of kings in some small countries.
Now, if Aisaco visits some small country that worships the God of Night and Thunder, the king would have to personally receive him.
But the power of love is infinite. Love can allow someone with nothing to gain the whole world, and it can also make someone who lacks nothing abandon everything.
"Need to be wary of the Goddess of Love..."
Loren pondered. As the strongest Outer God, the Goddess of Love possessed the ability to directly interfere with the world, bypassing the Orthodox Gods, so She didn't need believers to chant Her name.
Being as obsessive as Aisaco had become, Loren felt it was impossible he hadn't received the Goddess of Love's blessing.
"The blessing Noah received was eternal lucidity, inability to forget, and a certain degree of immortality..."
Noah's blessing didn't increase combat power much. That level of immortality could be killed by the Requiem. If Aisaco's blessing was the same as Noah's, then that would be manageable. What Loren feared was if it was different.
Obtaining the Goddess of Love's blessing is difficult. Even Loren only knew of a few people who had received it.
"Let's take it one step at a time for now..."
Loren had already obtained the most crucial magic, Blood Moon Condensed Light. Now he completely lacked for nothing in terms of offensive power. The situation of having ample Mana but no powerful magic would not recur.
Loren's current strength had undergone a qualitative change. If he were to face that crippled Angel of Confusion from before now, Loren was confident he could kill It within a single move.
And now the Witches had also grown somewhat stronger, especially Luna. With the enhancement from her accessory, her already exaggerated stats became even more absurd. She didn't fear anyone in a frontal fight. Anna had also learned some Blood Magic. While the boost to combat power might not be as exaggerated as Luna's, the degree of improvement was still significant.
Movila could now transform into a raven, which also counted as a combat power increase.
Coincidentally, now that they were in the Uridia Kingdom, Loren planned to use the facilities here to research some more advanced thermal weapons.
The firearms currently on the market sacrificed a lot of power for other considerations, as they had to account for the user. Loren didn't need to do that now.
Only Loren would dare to do something like this—directly borrowing a factory. And Loren was also very certain the vampires would agree, not even requiring Loren to fabricate an excuse.
Deciding to act, Loren immediately got up, but before he could get off the bed, Movila pulled him back.
"What's wrong?"
Loren thought Movila was afraid of being lonely and didn't want him to leave, but then Movila said something Loren found difficult to comprehend:
"There are vampires giving money to ordinary people."
