Chapter 183: The Greedy Witch
Chapter 183: The Greedy Witch
Three Crimson Tide Novas sealed off all of Pastus's dodging space, and in the end, he was still struck by one. The Crimson Tide Nova entered his body before exploding, causing Pastus to swell up like a balloon.
Immediately followed by the second and third hits, a series of explosions stretched Pastus's body to the point of rupture, making him resemble a deflating balloon.
Loren's attack wasn't over yet. He continued to draw Requiem, sending streaks of crimson blade light slashing towards Pastus at extreme speed, instantly battering him like a tattered plastic bag, sending him flying repeatedly.
"Is this bastard still not dead?"
That full combo could make even a Dragon take a serious hit, but the Pseudohuman disguised as Pastus could still move, and Loren hadn't received a kill notification.
Still, since he could replace Pastus, having this level of strength was normal.
Loren plucked the strings, beginning the incantation for the next wave of magic. The Pseudohuman, who had been blasted back dozens of meters by Loren, could even reform into a broken humanoid shape, struggling to stand up.
By the time Loren's incantation ended, Pastus had already charged to Loren's front. His hand had transformed into a sharp spike. Just looking at this spike sent a chill down Loren's spine.
Loren was confident the next spell could repel Pastus, but his Intuition still sent warnings. Thus, Loren could only activate Void-walking once more.
Before the spike could pierce him, bullets passed through Loren's head.After a failed strike, a normal person would create distance. Loren timed it perfectly and canceled Void-walking. He appeared composed and at ease;
he couldn't let Pastus see his weakness.
With his vision restored, Loren saw a different scene. Behind Pastus, and behind himself, Pseudohumans had completely surrounded them.
"Is the Bountiful Church full of trash? To let Pseudohumans take a dump right on their heads."
While complaining, Loren had already finished incanting a new spell. He activated Crippling Tempest again. This spell had strong AOE and was excellent for clearing mobs. Loren was quite certain ordinary Pseudohumans couldn't withstand this magic.
But these Pseudohumans weren't ordinary. After being blasted away, they quickly got back up. The scenario Loren imagined, of them being torn apart, did not happen.
To deal with these Pseudohumans, he'd have to use single-target spells to kill them one by one. Although Loren had enough Mana, it would waste a lot of time and be very dangerous, especially with the Pastus Pseudohuman watching covetously from the sidelines.
"Damn it, after this is over, I'm definitely switching jobs."
Actually, Loren understood clearly. The Pseudohumans had their eyes on him. Even if Loren went to another church, they would still come. This wave really couldn't be blamed too much on the Bountiful Church.
"Hey, can we call a truce?"
This time, Loren proactively suggested a truce, but Pastus paid him no mind.
Loren swept his gaze around. The surrounding residents had all come. They had all turned into Pseudohumans. In other words, Loren no longer needed to worry about anyone coming here to interfere with him.
"I'm going all out with you!"
Loren charged straight at Pastus. The bullets shot from behind were all dodged by Loren using Void-walking. Pastus also charged towards Loren head-on. Through the course of this battle, he knew close combat was advantageous for him.
However, the moment Pastus made contact with Loren, Loren lifted his black robe and pulled the fuse on the explosives at his waist without hesitation.
"Boom!"
"Master Mentor!"
The deafening explosion echoed through the clouds, drowning out the Greed Witch's call for Loren.
This time, the explosives Loren used were more powerful than before. After all, Pseudohumans' defense was much higher than normal humans. Even so, Loren didn't dare guarantee he could reliably kill Pastus.
Estimating the time, Loren canceled Void-walking. Today's battle was indeed dangerous;
Loren had maintained Void-walking for a long stretch of time.
Many of the Pseudohumans that had surrounded him were blown apart by the bomb, but their numbers remained vast. Their previous inspections were indeed just for show.
The number of real Pseudohumans was greater than Loren had imagined.
"Troublesome."
Pastus stood up once more, reforming into a humanoid shape. But now, he was a candle in the wind;
it seemed the slightest disturbance would cause his true death.
He understood this too, silently retreating to the rear. The Pseudohumans that filled the gap surrounded Loren.
These Pseudohumans had just taken a step forward when a flock of crows blocked their path. These crows attacked the Pseudohumans as if they were insane.
"Master Mentor, I've gathered all my souls here. Please go deal with the leader."
"Why go through such hardship..."
The Greed Witch's Arcane Ability targeted souls. Facing Pseudohumans without souls, she was little stronger than ordinary crows.
So these crows were easily torn apart by the Pseudohumans. The souls she had devoured from the battlefield were being consumed at a rapid pace.
Loren knew these Pseudohumans couldn't hurt him, but the Greed Witch didn't know. She still chose to exhaust everything to help Loren.
Simply because during this time, she had seen Loren's character, seen his kindness towards Witches.
Her soul was scattered across the world. Being able to arrive here so quickly meant she had started her journey a long time ago.
"This is why I love Witches so much..."
Loren's kindness towards the other Witches was enough to make a Witch who had never met him before stake her life for him.
It was that simple, simple to the point of being abrupt.
Perhaps the Greed Witch's help wasn't that significant to Loren, but it made him understand her heart.
Loren pulled a potion bottle from his clothes, tilted his head back, and drank it. Immediately, a bloody aura began to emanate from his body, his killing intent almost condensing into a physical form.
This was the Bloodbath Rhapsody Elixir Loren had brewed earlier. Originally, he intended to use it to resist the Outer Gods' contamination, but the Outer Gods' contamination proved utterly useless. So, Loren simply used this thing to amplify his combat power.
"As expected..."
Even after drinking this potion that was supposed to drive one to lose their sanity, Loren remained perfectly clear-headed. Nothing could affect Loren's thoughts or mind.
"Gale Thrust!"
Loren's body abruptly accelerated, passing directly through the Pseudohumans blocking his path. To save time, Loren directly used Void-walking.
"Throat-Severing Slash!"
The instant Void-walking was canceled, Loren had already arrived before Pastus. Requiem was also ignited with Sin-Cleansing Flames.
"This is a strike imbued with our bond! Die!"
Strength Card activated. The flames on the blade grew more violent, simultaneously emitting a bloody aura. The effects of Crimson Blade and the Bloodbath Rhapsody Elixir were both attached to Requiem.
The powers of justice and evil appeared simultaneously. This slash directly cleaved Pastus in two.
[Level up successful. Current level: 40. Remaining attribute points: two. Selectable talents: +1]
Adding the Pseudohumans killed earlier, Loren's level had reached forty.
Seeing the level-up notification, Loren finally let out a sigh of relief. If he could level up, it meant he had truly killed him.
Clemens was killed by Pastus earlier;
that was probably the moment Pastus was replaced by a Pseudohuman.
After killing Pastus, Loren immediately went back to deal with the other Pseudohumans without pause. But many of the Greed Witch's souls had still been torn apart.
If she hadn't held back the other Pseudohumans, Loren might not have been able to deal with Pastus so cleanly and efficiently.
