Chapter 2175 - 2152: Lending a Helping Hand in Times of Need
Since the reason has been found and the explanation seems reasonable, Gao Yang wants to make something out of this phone.
Gao Yang’s thinking is very simple and easy to understand, though it still sounds quite feasible, no need for discussion, just see how to implement it.
If we’re setting up a trap, there are many ways to do it, but how exactly is yet to be decided. To maximize the value of the phone, a proper strategy needs to be planned.
Gao Yang shouted, "If the Italian police weren’t a bunch of cowards, we should have been caught by now. But the Italian police surely aren’t cowards, so various forces must be tacitly or even openly allowing our existence and actions. In that case, we shouldn’t worry much about entering Rome, so I think we should continue heading to Rome, but we need to swap cars; otherwise, we won’t be able to escape Mario’s eyes."
Glolov pointed at the highway and laughed, "Swap cars, huh. There are plenty of cars on the road, just hijack a few and switch them. Of course, we should switch again once we’re in the city, maybe a few more times, very easy."
With the car loaded with arms, Gao Yang didn’t want to discard them. Since they’ve already discovered the reason for being tracked, solving the problem becomes a lot simpler.
Looking at the highway, Gao Yang shook his head and said, "Forget about hijacking cars, they’re moving too fast, it’s prone to cause accidents, and standing in the road is unsafe. It’d be too unfair to get hit by a car in combat. Besides, it’s still early morning, and there aren’t too many cars. Let’s just drive our own car, get off at the nearest exit, and then swap cars."
With a few words, they decided on the next route. Gao Yang waved his hand and said, "When getting into the car, everyone needs to be careful, slow down, be combat-ready, and stay alert."
After a bit of hassle, once they dealt with Fatino’s phone jamming, Gao Yang felt much more relaxed as he returned to the car because he found the root of his worries. Although he needed to be wary of potential blockades and battles, Gao Yang wasn’t too tense.
Once back on the road, they drove for a while, got off the highway, drove for a bit more, and then hijacked cars whenever they saw one. After repeatedly swapping cars, it was early dawn.
Next, they had to switch cars again and ensure Mario couldn’t easily find them, which required some time. Once all cars were swapped or abandoned in the city for foot movement, it wouldn’t guarantee safety but would undoubtedly ease their situation.
Just as the sun was rising, Gao Yang was exhausted, but right then, his phone rang.
Gao Yang took out his phone and saw an unfamiliar number with a country code from a place he didn’t recognize at all.
After a moment’s pause, Gao Yang asked Eileen, who was driving, "What country is the code 354 from?"
Eileen paused too, then said, "I don’t know, definitely from Europe. I only know Ireland is 353."
Gao Yang answered the call with a puzzled expression, "Who is this?"
"It’s Justin."
After Justin identified himself, there was a long silence between Gao Yang and Justin. After a moment, Gao Yang sighed and said, "Hello there, buddy. If you hadn’t called, I’d have to add your name to the death list. Good that you finally called."
Gao Yang’s words had a double meaning.
If Justin was already dead, his name would surely be on the death list. But if Justin wasn’t dead, and with such major events happening with the Cicero Family, Gao Yang couldn’t believe Justin wouldn’t have heard, so if Justin was alive but never showed up, Gao Yang would have to think Justin was deliberately using him, watching the chaos unfold for his own benefit in the end.
If it were the latter case, Gao Yang would have to get rid of Justin, so Justin would still end up on the death list.
For old times’ sake, Gao Yang didn’t express his words too bluntly, but his dissatisfaction and suspicion were impossible for Justin to not notice.
Justin sighed softly, then said in a low voice, "Believe it or not, I have to say this has nothing to do with me. I didn’t intentionally drag you into this. I haven’t dared contact anyone for a while; most of my people are dead. I dare not trust anyone. I only just received the news, five minutes ago."
Gao Yang said nothing, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts.
After a while, Gao Yang softly said, "Hmm."
Justin, quite frustrated, asked, "What does ’hmm’ mean?"
Gao Yang softly said, "Hmm means I believe what you’re saying. Okay then, tell me where you are."
"Believe me? I’m in Iceland, in a small town near Reykjavik. There aren’t many people here."
Gao Yang let out a breath and asked, "Why did you run off to such a desolate place as Iceland?"
"Because I had nowhere else to go. I just wanted to find a safe place to hide, so I came to Iceland. At least it’s remote enough here."
Gao Yang chuckled and continued in a friendly tone, "It sure is remote. No wonder no one could find you."
Justin sighed and said, "Shouldn’t we have more important things to discuss?"
Gao Yang laughed, "Yeah, you need to explain why you didn’t call me for all these months, and why you’re thinking of it now."
Justin said quietly, "I did try calling you, but your phone was off. I tried several times, then figured that it might not be a good idea to reach you. Perhaps I’d die after contacting you, so I thought it better to spend my remaining days in peace in some remote corner."
Gao Yang, quite interested, asked, "Oh, well, I was busy then. I had a lot on my plate and was constantly fighting. But why did you think that way? Why didn’t you keep trying to contact me, especially since I still owe you a significant sum? And it’s not like my phone was always off; I keep it on when I’m not in combat."
Justin said quietly, "Because wiping out my debt by killing me seems the logical choice. Besides, it wasn’t you who borrowed the money, it was Grand Ivan, or you could hand me to Mario, clearing the debt and making a profit while forging a new friendship. What do you think?"
Gao Yang thought about it seriously, then had to admit Justin’s concerns were quite reasonable, so he smiled, "Hmm, yeah, that certainly would be more advantageous."
Justin, rather dejected, said, "Most of my people are dead, those who survived mostly betrayed me. I lost my money and have no chance of winning. I’ve accepted the defeat. Calling you was just to tell you this isn’t a trap I set for you, that’s all."
Gao Yang chuckled and said, "Justin, do you know what one of my biggest flaws is?"
"What?"
"I don’t like to add flowers to a brocade, but I do like to send charcoal in snowy weather. Do you know what that means, or should I explain it to you?"
