Chapter 288: Ye Xiu Harasses a Strange Beauty on the Street
Chapter 288: Ye Xiu Harasses a Strange Beauty on the Street
The young man and the beautiful woman grew anxious when Ye Xiu put on a mask.
Their goal was to slander Ye Xiu. They planned to take a photo of him harassing a strange woman, spread it online along with the news, and fan the flames to watch his reputation collapse.
But now that Ye Xiu had put on a mask, no one would believe the photo even if they posted it online. Without photographic proof, the story of him harassing a woman on the street would have no credibility. Given Ye Xiu’s influence, nobody would believe it anyway.
"Everyone, surround him! Don’t let him get away! We’ll wait for the Patrol Officers to arrive!" the young man shouted.
Once the Patrol Officers get here, he’ll have to take off his mask. I’ll take the picture then. With the officers in the shot, no one will dare doubt that he harassed a woman on the street!
"That’s right, we can’t let him escape!"
"There are too many of us, he’s not getting away!"
The crowd of onlookers spontaneously formed a tight circle around Ye Xiu, leaving no path out.
Ye Xiu, however, had no intention of running. He simply lifted his mask enough to reveal his mouth, lit a cigarette, and began to smoke leisurely.
This scene enraged the onlookers.
This thug is so arrogant! Completely lawless!
Soon, two Patrol Officers came running. "What’s going on here?" one of them asked.
"It’s like this, Officer," the young man began. "This man demanded this lady’s contact information, and when she refused, he started getting physical with her." He then added, "Everyone here saw it and can testify."
Hearing this, the two Patrol Officers turned to Ye Xiu with disapproving looks. Just then, Ye Xiu quickly pulled his mask down and then put it back up.
"Colleagues, you’re just in time. I ran into some trouble while trying to apprehend a criminal," Ye Xiu said.
The Patrol Officer who had spoken first scanned the crowd and announced, "This man is my colleague, a fellow Patrol Officer, and he is on duty. What do you all mean by obstructing his investigation and falsely accusing him of harassing a woman on the street?"
What? As soon as he spoke, the onlookers were all dumbfounded. This turn of events was not at all what they had expected. How did this vile scumbag suddenly turn into a public servant?
The young man and the beautiful woman were equally stunned. When did Ye Xiu become a Patrol Officer?
"So, what exactly is the situation here?" the Patrol Officer asked Ye Xiu, playing along.
"This woman is a con artist," Ye Xiu explained. "I was about to arrest her when she suddenly turned the tables and accused me of harassing her. As for this young man, I assumed he was her accomplice."
An uproar swept through the crowd. The onlookers all turned to stare at the beautiful woman and the young man, their faces showing dawning realization.
"I knew it! How could such a handsome young man harass a random woman on the street?"
"No wonder he didn’t run when we called the authorities! He was so cooperative when we were taking pictures."
"He put on a mask when we took photos because he didn’t want the credit. He was doing a good deed anonymously!"
"Sigh, it’s so hard being a Patrol Officer these days. You serve the people, only to get falsely accused."
The tide of public opinion shifted in an instant. The same onlookers who had been blasting Ye Xiu moments before were now showering him with praise.
The beautiful woman and the young man were stupefied. They had gone to such great lengths to set this trap, roping in a large crowd to corner Ye Xiu. Yet, with a simple, last-minute plot of his own, he had turned the tables on them completely!
"Run!" the young man yelled.
With a single leap, he cleared the circle of people and took off at a sprint.
The beautiful woman instantly reacted, escaping in the opposite direction with a similar leap.
"Wh-what..."
The onlookers gasped in another uproar. The young man and the beautiful woman had just jumped clear over their large circle. Are they even human?
The two Patrol Officers were not at all surprised. For a matter that Huang Quan was personally overseeing, the opponents were bound to be extraordinary.
"Follow the man. The woman is mine," Ye Xiu said, before vaulting over the crowd to chase after the beautiful woman.
The two Patrol Officers were in an awkward position. How are we supposed to chase a Martial Artist? We can’t possibly catch him! And even if we could, we’d never beat him!
Despite this, they still gave chase. They couldn’t back down just because it was difficult. Even if a mountain of blades or a sea of fire lay ahead, even if they were running toward a bottomless abyss, they had to press forward without hesitation.
In reality, Ye Xiu hadn’t been speaking to the Patrol Officers. His order was meant for Mo Luo, telling him to track the young man.
The beautiful woman fled frantically, weaving through the streets like an eel. Hmph, chase me? In your dreams. I know Dragon Lake Street far better than you do.
After running for ten minutes, she risked a glance back and was so frightened her heart nearly leaped into her throat. Ye Xiu was right there, barely half a meter behind her.
SMACK!
Ye Xiu gave her rear a firm slap. "Keep running. I’m not done with this chase yet."
HISS!
The woman winced in pain. My butt must be bright red by now. But she had no time to worry about it.
She kept running. She didn’t dare to leave Dragon Lake Street. With Ye Xiu’s skill, he would catch her in minutes if they left this complex terrain. Her only hope was to use the area’s layout and its countless shops to shake him!
Another ten minutes passed. The woman was just about to look back to see if she had finally lost him.
SMACK!
Another painful slap landed on her rear.
Damn it! I still haven’t shaken him off!
She kept running.
This pattern continued. Every ten minutes or so, Ye Xiu would slap her again.
After the fifth time, the woman was furious. She finally stopped, spun around, and yelled at Ye Xiu, "Can’t you hit somewhere else? You’ve already made it swell up...!"
Ye Xiu pondered for a moment. "Then how about I slap your face?"
The woman was left speechless.
"Done running?" Ye Xiu asked.
"I’d love to keep running, but do you think I could actually get away?" the woman retorted, glaring at him irritably.
"Then be honest with me. Who are you? Who sent you to tail me? And what’s your mission?" Ye Xiu demanded with a wicked grin. "If you don’t answer truthfully, or if you try to lie, I’ll slap your butt until it’s lopsided."
"You...!" The woman flushed with shame and anger, but ultimately relented. "My name is Xia Zhiwei. My grandfather is Xia Dehe, the Sect Leader of the Heavenly Dragon Sect. You should know of him, right?"
"Of course," Ye Xiu nodded. "And I also know that you definitely weren’t sent by Xia Dehe."
"How could you know Grandpa didn’t send me?" Xia Zhiwei asked.
"Xia Dehe is an honorable man, and the Heavenly Dragon Sect never bullies the weak. He would never ask you to stoop to such underhanded tricks," Ye Xiu explained.
Xia Zhiwei stared at him for a few seconds. "It seems you know a lot about my grandfather and the Heavenly Dragon Sect. You’re right. It wasn’t Grandpa who sent me; it was my sister."
"Your sister?" Ye Xiu was momentarily stunned. He then asked, "Is your brother-in-law Shen Tianfang, by any chance?"
