Chapter 261: Ming Yue’s Assassination Attempt Fails

As Shen Tiangao’s blade drew ever closer to Shen Monong’s neck, just when everyone thought she was about to die, a loud BANG suddenly echoed through the room. Everyone stared in shock, witnessing an incredible scene: the six nets enveloping Ye Xiu had actually exploded.

Ye Xiu vanished from his spot, reappearing the next instant beside Shen Monong. With just two fingers, he casually pinched the tip of Shen Tiangao’s descending blade.

A collective gasp filled the air. Is this man a ghost? No human could possess such an ability!

"This..." Shen Tiangao’s face changed dramatically as he exclaimed, "Impossible! This is impossible! These nets were made from a special material developed in a laboratory. We tested them many times on the War God and Great Grandmasters! How could you possibly burst through six of them at once?"

"For me, nothing in this world is impossible."

Ye Xiu flicked the tip of the blade. Shen Tiangao felt a tremendous force vibrate through it, forcing him to involuntarily release his grip.

Holding the blade, Ye Xiu pressed its tip against Shen Tiangao’s neck. "I told you earlier," he said coldly, "you won’t survive today."

"Spare me..." Shen Tiangao’s legs trembled with fear, and he crumpled to his knees, pleading pitifully.

Seeing this, Shen Monong, the diners, and the waitstaff all breathed a sigh of relief. The patrons and staff, in particular, looked at Ye Xiu as if he were their savior. A few pretty young girls, charmed by Ye Xiu’s breathtakingly handsome face, were utterly mesmerized.

Shen Monong stared blankly at Shen Tiangao. Just moments ago, he had been arrogant and overbearing, dreaming of becoming the head of the Shen Family and ruling over Qingfeng Road and the entire Qi Yun Dao. Now, he was kneeling at Ye Xiu’s feet, begging for his life.

She suddenly felt a pang of regret. When Ye Xiu was caught in the nets, I asked for his corpse. If only I had pleaded for his life instead! Now that the tables have turned, Ye Xiu might have been willing to help me rescue my father, Shen Shijie.

"Everyone, leave," Ye Xiu said.

WHOOSH!

All the diners and waitstaff scrambled to rush out. As they fled, several of the young women looked back at Ye Xiu, their eyes filled with reluctance to leave. Soon, only Ye Xiu, Shen Monong, Shen Tiangao, and his six bodyguards remained in the restaurant.

"Weren’t you so arrogant just now? Why the cowardice all of a sudden?" Ye Xiu asked coldly.

"No, no, no! I was just joking earlier, yes, just joking! Please, don’t take it seriously! Don’t kill me! Please, don’t kill me!" Shen Tiangao cried out in terror, wetting himself.

"Tell me the location of the Shen Family’s secret laboratory," Ye Xiu said indifferently.

"I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you!" Shen Tiangao clutched at the offer as if it were his last straw, speaking without hesitation. "The secret laboratory is underground beneath the Hongtai Nonwoven Fabric Factory."

Having said his piece, he looked up at Ye Xiu with an expression of terror mixed with hope. "Now that I’ve told you, you won’t go back on your word and kill me, right?"

"I never said I’d spare you."

Ye Xiu stabbed the blade through Shen Tiangao’s heart and then strode away. After such a commotion, this meal was clearly off the table.

"Uh..." Shen Tiangao stared blankly at the blade lodged in his chest before collapsing to the ground. In the final second before losing consciousness, he realized how rash he had been.

Ye Xiu had just stepped out of the restaurant when Shen Monong ran after him. "Please, I’m begging you, can you help me save my father?"

"Who are you?" Ye Xiu asked.

Shen Monong was left speechless.

Watching Ye Xiu disappear from view, Shen Monong returned to her car, her expression turning ferocious. "You’re too heartless, too cruel! To think you’d pretend not to know me just moments later. Just you wait. I’ll make you pay for your callousness."

She took out her phone and dialed Shen Songshan’s number. "Great-Grandpa, my attempt to poison that man failed, but I have a new plan to kill him."

"Speak!" Shen Songshan commanded.

"Shen Tiangao told him the location of the Shen Family’s secret laboratory. I believe he’s heading there now. If you set up an ambush with some experts, you can surely kill him," Shen Monong said quickly.

"Brilliant!" Shen Songshan exclaimed.

Hearing her great-grandfather’s praise, Shen Monong breathed a sigh of relief. Dad might be saved!

"Hello, Miss Shen."

At that moment, a woman’s voice suddenly came from the back seat.

Startled, the hair on Shen Monong’s body stood on end. She froze, not daring to turn and see who was speaking. Suppressing her fear, she asked, "Who... who are you? Why are you in my car?"

"You can call me Evil Demon," Ming Yue said with a crazed expression. "Can you tell me what happened in the restaurant? And what did you mean by that phone call to Shen Songshan?"

The truth was, when Ye Xiu and Shen Monong had noticed someone following them earlier, it had not been Shen Tiangao; it was Ming Yue. The only reason Shen Tiangao could find them was because Lian Zhengrong had previously asked him to plant a tracker and a listening device in Ming Yue’s car. Originally, Ming Yue was not targeting Ye Xiu. She just wanted to ask Shen Monong why Ye Xiu was on Qingfeng Road and what his relationship was with the Shen Family. However, she had not expected Shen Monong to run into Ye Xiu on the way, which prompted her to hatch a new plan. When Ye Xiu and Shen Monong arrived at the restaurant, Ming Yue had snuck into Shen Monong’s car, intending to ambush and kill Ye Xiu when they returned. But things took an unexpected turn. It seemed Ye Xiu and Shen Monong had a falling out, as he left without getting into her car.

"If I tell you, will you let me go?" Shen Monong asked.

"Of course. I’m not interested in killing you," Ming Yue replied.

And so, Shen Monong held nothing back. She told Ming Yue everything about her relationship with Ye Xiu, how he became an enemy of the Shen Family, and how Shen Songshan was using Shen Shijie’s life to force her to poison him. She even recounted the details of the phone call she had just made.

After hearing the full story, a thought flashed through Ming Yue’s mind: the enemy of an enemy is a friend. I could ally with the Shen Family to deal with Ye Xiu. She quickly dismissed the idea, however. The Shen Family will target Ye Xiu even without my help, so there is no need for me to expose myself.

"I can help you rescue Shen Shijie and even help you become the master of the Shen Family, on the condition that you submit to me," Ming Yue said. I need to secretly build my own power base.

"Really?" Shen Monong was overjoyed. She had no interest in controlling the Shen Family, but she desperately wanted to save Shen Shijie. "As long as you can save my father, I’ll do anything you ask."

"Good!" Ming Yue smiled. "Gather all the branch members of the Shen Family in one place. Tell them that someone will be delivering that man’s corpse. Oh, and give me your phone number."

"Oh, okay!"

After jotting down Shen Monong’s phone number, Ming Yue got out of the car and left.

As she reached the roadside, a taxi pulled up in front of her. The window rolled down, and the driver, wearing a cap and a mask, asked, "Need a ride, miss?"

Ming Yue did not answer. She simply opened the door, slid into the passenger seat, and said, "To the Hongtai Nonwoven Fabric Factory."

Like Ye Xiu, she was curious about what treasures might be inside the Shen Family’s secret laboratory.

"You got it!" The driver slammed on the gas, and the taxi shot off.

Glancing at the driver’s profile, Ming Yue asked, "Why are you wearing a cap and a mask?"

"I’m bald and have bad breath," the driver said.

Hearing about the bad breath, Ming Yue immediately lost all desire to chat. However, she failed to notice the chilling smile forming behind the driver’s mask.
