Chapter 378 -378-Morpheus’s Temptation
Chapter 378 -378-Morpheus’s Temptation
The human leaders present fell into a brief silence.
They knew perfectly well that, with Caelan’s current strength, he had not even reached six-star level. He simply did not possess the ability to shelter humanity, much less all the myriad races.
"I agree. We should have Kate return to Caelan’s main body as soon as possible!"
"Yes, I agree as well. This is an extremely important matter for humanity and even for all races. It may very well decide whether we live or die."
Seeing the situation beginning to turn against them, Orlando immediately rose to his feet and fired back.
"You certainly make it sound easy, but have any of you ever considered Caelan’s feelings?"
"I can tell you with absolute certainty that Caelan will never agree to let Kate return to his main body. Do you understand?"
Orlando’s words instantly provoked dissatisfaction among the surrounding human leaders.
"Orlando, and Caesar as well—just how did the two of you educate your descendants?"
"How can that boy Caelan possess so little awareness of the greater good? And as for Kate, what exactly is she trying to do? She is only a Mirror Image. Can she not be a little more sensible?"
Inside the presidential suite, Kate listened to the discussion among humanity’s senior leaders and felt her fists clench involuntarily.
An impulse surged in her heart: she wanted to return to the conference hall immediately and demand to know exactly what those so-called human leaders were thinking. Were their brains filled with nothing but breadcrumbs?
Yet even in the face of such a situation, Kate managed to remain calm.
Donald’s deliberate efforts to curry favor with her had instead caused wariness to rise in her heart. Even so, these human leaders were truly detestable!
Only moments ago, they had been shaking hands with her and speaking to her in such a friendly manner. Yet the moment her back was turned, they began discussing how to force her to return to Caelan’s main body!
Kate hated people like this most of all—those who acted one way to her face and another behind her back.
At that moment, a trace of grievance welled up in Kate’s heart.
All she wanted was to stay alive.
What was so wrong with that?
So... what should I do?
It looks like Grandfather and Maternal Grandfather are under tremendous pressure as well.
Perhaps... I really should return to my brother’s main body?
As that thought surfaced, Kate felt her eyes begin to sting. Her vision gradually blurred.
Just then, a voice suddenly echoed directly within the depths of her heart.
"Kate, do you require assistance?"
A flash of vigilance instantly appeared in Kate’s eyes.
Almost by instinct, she attempted to use [Eye of Insight] to discover who was transmitting their voice to her.
However, after scanning her surroundings, she found nothing at all.
At that moment, the same voice once again surfaced in her mind.
"Kate, there is no need to search for me, because my existence itself does not exist. That may sound rather complicated to you, but please believe me—I harbor absolutely no malice toward you. I simply find you pitiful and wish to help you, that is all."
Kate let out a cold snort. She raised a hand and quietly wiped the corners of her eyes.
"I do not need anyone’s pity, least of all from some coward who refuses to show themselves."
"Do not disturb me again. Otherwise, I swear that no matter what it takes, I will find a way to kill you."
Faced with Kate’s threat, the owner of the voice did not seem concerned in the slightest.
"Heh heh, there is no need to be so angry. Do you not wish to know what your beloved brother is doing right now?"
"In truth, in order to find a way to save you, he is currently doing everything he can to collect the items left behind by the Sovereign Ranni."
"At present, he possesses only the [Lunar Staff]. However, the far more important [Lunar Robe] is hidden within the Abyss."
"You should already know this: the Abyss rejects his entry. Because of that, he is currently troubled over what to do."
At this point, the owner of the voice deliberately paused, allowing Kate time to digest this information before continuing.
"But Kate, your existence is extremely special. You are not affected by any rules whatsoever. That means you are entirely capable of entering the Abyss freely."
"Once you obtain the [Lunar Robe], you will understand just how magnificent an item it truly is. You will be able to obtain genuine freedom... and perhaps even help your brother."
Kate had to admit that the proposal truly tempted her.
However, after thinking it over carefully, she frowned.
"I admit that your suggestion is extremely tempting. But there is one problem: I am not a match for the Lord of the Abyss. Do you understand?"
Kate was indeed incredibly powerful, and she had absolute confidence in her own strength.
The problem was that the strength of the Lord of the Abyss had already surpassed the limits of what could normally be comprehended.
To put it plainly, even if every awakener among the myriad races joined forces right now, they still could not possibly defeat the Lord of the Abyss.
Yet in response to Kate’s doubt, the voice once again whispered in her heart like a devil tempting its prey.
"No, no, no, Kate. You have overlooked one important matter. The great— ahem, the Lord of the Abyss has already descended into your World of Myriad Races."
"Therefore, right now is the perfect opportunity for you to enter the Abyss, is it not?"
A thoughtful expression appeared on Kate’s face.
She understood perfectly well that the voice speaking within her heart must have some hidden purpose.
Even so, after considering the matter seriously, she still realized that it was an excellent proposal!
This truly did seem like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
If she obtained the [Lunar Robe], not only could it help her, it could also help her brother.
Furthermore, with the Lord of the Abyss absent, there could hardly be a better opportunity.
In that case, only one question remained.
How exactly was she supposed to enter the Abyss?
Without an [Invitation Letter], locating a fragile spatial node would most likely be no easy task.
Kate parted her lips, a trace of hesitation in her voice.
"Your method does sound good, but the problem is..."
Before Kate could finish raising her concern, the owner of the voice interrupted her directly.
"There is no need for you to say it aloud. I already know what you are worried about."
"Now, please walk over to the window on the westernmost side of the room. Then open it and look at the windowsill. You should find an invitation letter leading to the Abyss there."
Kate hesitated for a moment.
Then, following the voice’s instructions, she walked over to the window and gently pushed it open.
Sure enough, lying on the windowsill was a radiant golden invitation letter to the Abyss.
A contemplative look flashed across Kate’s face.
Just where had that voice come from?
Could it be from the Abyss itself?
At the same time, within a subspace, Morpheus was respectfully reporting to the distant, towering figure of the Lord of the Abyss—an existence so overwhelming that none dared look directly upon it.
"Great Lord of the Abyss, Your Majesty, your loyal servant has come to report."
"I have carried out your instructions and tempted Kate as commanded. I believe it will not be long before she takes the bait of her own accord."
"However, may I ask why Your Majesty has chosen to do this?"
