Chapter 1019 - 721: Conditions
"He’s still alive, but for some reason, I can’t feel much vitality from him."
Feng Yue followed Li Zheng’s instructions, cautiously approached the ape-man to investigate, having long been involved in research projects, he had some knowledge in the medical field.
He walked back to Li Zheng and said, "That guy is now like a living dead, his body is alive, but his consciousness is dead."
"Not a vegetative state, but a living dead." He seemed afraid that Li Zheng and the others wouldn’t understand, so he added another explanation.
Upon hearing this symptom, Mirel finally understood the meaning of Li Zheng’s earlier words: "Yakumo’s sister indeed has this symptom, so your previous speculation was correct. Someone did use powerful Spiritual Power to disrupt those people’s Spiritual Realm!"
But...
Why?
What is the purpose of disrupting those people’s Spiritual Realm?
Li Zheng pondered for a moment, his complexion pale as paper, he gasped and said, "Help me over to take a look."
He now didn’t even have the strength to stand, the Healing medicine he took earlier started to take effect, the small and large wounds on his body began to heal slowly.
Countless granulations squirmed in his wounds, they interlinked and grew together to fill the cracks on his body.
Strangely, Li Zheng found his blood seemed different than before, much thicker now. Even though there were dozens of deep wounds on his body, they only oozed a little blood, which the granulations during the healing process absorbed back into the body.
Mirel supported Li Zheng, step by step, towards the ape-man’s body.
The ape-man’s appearance hadn’t changed a bit, just the flames that once surrounded him had completely dissipated.
The Fire Ape clan’s fur seemed naturally heat-resistant, surrounded by flames for so long, not even a single strand of fur got curled.
The ape-man’s eyes were slightly closed, as if merely resting, his expression peaceful.
But his eyeballs had lost the nervous tremor, entirely indifferent to the presence of several more people beside him.
Li Zheng investigated his breathing and heartbeat, all physiological functions were normal, the heartbeat was strong like a drum, with the palm able to feel a small hammer fiercely pounding through skin, fur, and muscle.
He tried using the Black Dragon Spear to leave a wound on the ape-man, but even after piercing through his palm, the ape-man didn’t frown, only slightly twitched due to a neural trigger.
"I just discovered five things similar to Spiritual Power Nodes in his Spiritual Realm." Li Zheng shared his findings with Mirel and Feng Yue, "But I’m certain they differ entirely from nodes."
"We need to stay here for a few days, until my body recovers a bit, I must re-enter his Spiritual Realm to investigate, find out exactly what those things are."
He turned to glance at Mudala, now Mudala’s entry into Outer City no longer concerned him.
The urgent task is to understand what the five node-like things in the ape-man’s brain are and how they formed.
"I have a premonition that perhaps those things are the main cause of the Soul Loss patients!" Li Zheng expressed worry, "If my assumption turns out to be true... the situation might be more dire than we imagined!"
Even though he noticed the five node-like objects only for a moment, Li Zheng still sensed some origin of Spiritual Power different from the ape-man’s within them.
"Since we’re staying here for a while, I’ll inform Mudala." Mirel said, "After all, this is the territory of the Destruction Race; we must get their consent."
"Hmm." Li Zheng nodded, letting her proceed.
He himself sat down on the spot, without mood to continue the conversation with Mudala. The method causing Soul Loss suddenly appeared in front of him, compared to that, the agreement between the predecessors and the Destruction Race seemed trivial.
"I’ve heard of patients with this symptom before..." Feng Yue was lost in thought, "I think there’s been a research institute working on such patients, but I only heard, never paid attention."
In Outer City, nothing was surprising, such unrelated subjects to Feng Yue’s interests wouldn’t attract him to pay attention and learn.
Li Zheng inhaled deeply, slowly exhaled, "There are many such patients in Outer City, just at a friend of mine’s place, there are hundreds kept."
The doctor once said that in the district of 950, he wasn’t the only one housing such patients.
It’s hard to imagine how many Soul Loss cases exist in the entire Outer City.
"Pathfinder," Feng Yue said, "If this method derives from some organization in the Wilderness, we better quickly find a way to respond, otherwise, if they continue developing, every Outer City resident will be in fear."
From Li Zheng’s earlier narrative, Feng Yue understood the basic principle was nothing but someone forcefully invading others’ Spiritual Realm with overwhelming Spiritual Power, obliterating the Spiritual Body dwelling within.
Yet, merely understanding the technique isn’t helpful, the main issue is how to resist such invasions.
Or rather, how to enhance the defenses of the Spiritual Realm.
The Spiritual Realm itself possesses not weak defenses, but such defense is akin to nothing in front of exceptionally powerful targets.
Just like Li Zheng, if he wanted to forcibly invade others’ Spiritual Realm, regardless of both parties’ safety, there’d be no one in the entire Outer City and Wilderness that could stop him!
So, the most crucial aspect is how to use only available Spiritual Power to devise highly specific measures which can resist invasions by stronger Spiritual Power.
Li Zheng thought for a moment, without finding the method, he had to say, "I’ll thoroughly study this matter once my wounds heal."
His body had just undergone near-collapse risk, now he’s even less daring to recklessly utilize Spiritual Power, otherwise, the outcome would be uncertain.
"Pathfinder, if you need anything, feel free to ask." Feng Yue bowed, "Though I’m not well-versed in Spiritual Power, I’m very competent as a guinea pig."
He had been a guinea pig for decades, didn’t mind switching topics and doing it again, as long as it could bring progress to Outer City, he’d gladly accept even if he died during the experiment.
Li Zheng looked at him for a while, perhaps people like Feng Yue, with spirit of sacrifice, had lots to talk about with the Black Dragon forbearers.
At this moment, Mirel returned and told Li Zheng: "Mudala agreed to let us stay here a while, though she had one further request."
Li Zheng frowned, "What request?"
"She said..." Mirel turned to look, Mudala was tidying up the flowers and plants near the wooden hut, preparing space to build two more wooden huts for Li Zheng and the others to settle in.
"She said she wants to learn the method to breach the limits of Spiritual Power, I promised her on your behalf."
"Of course, I also proposed another condition..."
