Mate Me in Moonlight

Chapter 117

Chapter 117

POV: Adeline

Elara stepped forward, her eyes bright with something ancient and knowing.

"It is time."

The words fell into the silence like stones into still water, and I felt their weight settle over me. The vows were spoken. The promises made. But this—this was what would make us truly one. The marking. The bite that would bind our souls together until death and beyond.

Aiden's hand found mine, his fingers threading through my own, and I felt his question through the bond. Ready?

I answered without words. Without hesitation.

Yes.

The pack went silent.

Not the ordinary quiet of attention, but something deeper. Sacred. Every wolf present seemed to hold their breath as one, as if even the wind had stilled to witness this moment. The torches flickered in the sudden stillness, casting dancing shadows across the ceremonial circle.

I understood then why the marking was the heart of the ceremony. The vows were words—beautiful, meaningful, but still just words. This was something else. This was a claiming written in flesh, a promise that would leave its mark on both of us forever.

Aiden turned to face me fully, releasing my hands so he could cup my face instead. His palms were warm against my cheeks, his thumbs tracing gentle arcs beneath my eyes.

"Look at me," he murmured, though I hadn't looked away. "Stay with me."

I nodded, not trusting my voice.

He leaned in, and I tilted my head without thinking—instinct, surrender, trust. His breath was warm against my throat, stirring the fine hairs at my nape. I felt his lips brush the curve where my neck met my shoulder, searching, finding the place where my pulse beat strongest.

His teeth grazed my skin, and I shivered.

Not from fear. Never from fear. Not with him.

"Mine," he breathed against my throat. A question. A declaration. A prayer.

"Yours."

He bit down.

Sharp—a bright flare of pain that made me gasp, my hands flying up to grip his shoulders. But almost immediately, the sharpness transformed into something else. Warmth flooded through me from the point of contact, spreading like sunlight through my veins, reaching into every corner of my being.

And then the bond exploded.

What had been a connection—strong, deep, intimate—became something incomprehensible. I could feel him. Not just his emotions, not just the surface of his thoughts, but him. His heartbeat was my heartbeat. His breath was my breath. His love poured into me like water finding its level, endless and overwhelming and right.

I cried out—not in pain, but in wonder. In the sheer impossibility of holding this much feeling inside one body.

His teeth released me, his tongue soothing the mark he had made, and I sagged against him, trembling with the force of what had just passed between us.

"Your turn."

His voice was rough, wrecked, and through our newly blazing bond I felt his anticipation. His need. Not to receive pain, but to receive my claim. To wear my mark the way I now wore his.

I pulled back enough to look at him—really look at him. My mate. My Alpha. The man who had given me everything and was now offering me this final gift.

I rose on my toes, my hands sliding to his shoulders for balance. He tilted his head, baring his throat, and the trust in that gesture nearly undid me. An Alpha, exposing his most vulnerable place. For me. Only for me.

I found the place where his pulse beat—strong and steady, the rhythm I had fallen asleep to so many nights. I pressed my lips there first, feeling his shudder run through our bond like an echo.

Then I bit.

His groan vibrated against my lips as my teeth broke skin. I tasted copper—brief, metallic—and then something sweeter. The bond flared again, but different this time. Not just receiving, but giving. Pouring myself into him the way he had poured himself into me.

Mine, I thought, fierce and certain. You're mine. Now and forever. Mine.

I felt his answer like a wave crashing over me. Yours. Always. Only yours.

I released him, my tongue tracing the mark I had left, and the world slowly reassembled itself around us.

The bond was... there were no words. No words in any language for what it felt like to be this connected to another person. I could feel his heart beating as clearly as my own—two rhythms that seemed to pulse in time, finding each other, matching. I could feel his breath in my lungs, his joy bright and burning like a second sun inside my chest.

I could feel his love.

Not as an idea. Not as a hope or a belief. As a fact. As present and undeniable as gravity, as the ground beneath my feet, as the moon watching over us. He loved me. I felt it. I knew it, in a way that went beyond knowing.

And he could feel mine. Everything I had struggled to say, everything I had been afraid to let him see—it was all there now, flowing between us without barrier or filter. No more hiding. No more walls.

Just us. Connected. Complete.

"Aiden," I breathed, and his name tasted different now. Fuller. Like it had always been waiting for this moment to mean what it truly meant.

"I know," he whispered. "I feel it too."

We stood there, foreheads pressed together, breathing each other's air, lost in the vastness of what we had become.

Bound. Fully. Forever.

The marks on our throats pulsed warmth—twin claims, twin promises. His on me. Mine on him. Evidence written in flesh that we belonged to each other, that we had chosen each other, that nothing and no one could ever undo what had been done tonight.

Somewhere in the distance, I heard Elara's voice rising in the ceremonial closing. Heard the pack beginning to stir, to respond. But it felt far away. Unimportant.

The only thing that mattered was this.

Him. Me. Us.

Forever.
