Chapter 182 - 183: Karmic Retribution
Chapter 182 - 183: Karmic Retribution
The heat from the flames spurred the bugs on, accelerating their hatching process.
Writhing madly, a few more of the bugs tumbled off.
But that wasn’t the most disgusting or bizarre part. Where the bugs had just fallen from, new black dots were already appearing.
It was like some kind of grotesque, endless cycle.
[Seriously, you guys, I’m about to throw up!]
[Watching this is making my skin crawl. I feel like my back and elbows are getting itchy.]
[Me too. It’s so gross but I can’t look away. I’m holding an exfoliating towel, and whenever I feel gross and itchy, I just scrub myself a few times. You know what? It actually works.]
[To the commenter above, dry-scrubbing yourself like that? Mad respect. You’re a real trooper!]
[I really can’t take it anymore! This is too disgusting, AHHHHH!!!]
Su Nian’s expression remained cold, but beads of sweat had started to form on the auntie’s forehead.
She was an incredibly responsible person, after all. She’d just been promised a bonus for this, and now, even with a deathly pale face, she absolutely refused to give up.
The girl could also feel the intense heat on her back. The flame was incredibly close, almost touching her skin, yet she seemed to feel nothing.
All she felt was a strange, tingling numbness on her back. Then she saw the incessantly writhing bugs begin to fall to the floor.
Su Nian instructed calmly, "Don’t worry. We’ll burn them all together later. They’ve only just hatched, so they can’t be parasitic yet."
The auntie nodded, not daring to speak.
PLOP! PLOP!
The bugs kept falling into the room. Even on the expensive, soft carpet, the occasional large one would land with an audible plop.
With everyone watching, the auntie’s arm began to ache and tremble just from holding the lighter.
But as she watched the last black dot on the girl’s back emerge and fall, the auntie instinctively moved the flame closer to her back, giving it one last check.
"HISS! That’s hot!"
This time, however, the girl wasn’t numb. She winced, grimacing as if in terrible pain.
Her reaction was what finally allowed the auntie to relax.
"Alright. Now, gather all of these things, put them in an iron basin, and burn them. Bring the basin and its contents to me tomorrow."
Su Nian issued the instructions in a serene voice.
Looking at the bugs on the floor—many of them curling up, some balled up tightly, scattered densely across the ground—was enough to make one’s skin crawl.
Strangely enough—and she didn’t know if it was just psychological—while looking at the things was sickening, the girl felt much lighter. Even her mood had improved.
She used to be a girl who smiled a lot, but recently she had been feeling constantly depressed.
"I’ll... I’ll go get some chopsticks to pick them up."
After her recent trial by fire, the auntie was like a seasoned veteran. Although she was still scared looking at the bugs, she could control her fear.
She grabbed two pairs of chopsticks and an iron basin and dealt with the things swiftly.
Once that was done, the girl thought of something else.
She hurriedly pleaded, "Auntie, please check me! Check everywhere else on my body, all over, even my scalp! Use the lighter and test it!"
She was terrified, worried that some bugs might still be left inside her body.
[This poor girl... What the hell is going on?!]
[I’d hire this auntie for a high salary in a heartbeat. She’s brave yet meticulous, and so patient. Even though she’s scared, she’s taking it so seriously. A helper like that is really hard to find.]
[Commenter above, I can’t tell if you’re being serious or just humblebragging!]
[What the hell is going on?! What the heck are these bugs? Streamer, hurry up and tell us! I never want to run into this crap, it’s disgusting and terrifying!]
Su Nian narrowed her eyes slightly. "It’s simply karmic retribution..."
