From the TVA guard’s memories, Rowan saw exactly what had happened.
Deadpool and Logan had both been struck by the metallic batons and immediately pruned into the Void.
Unlike Steve, neither of them took those weapons seriously.
Both Deadpool and Wolverine were effectively immortal.
They were used to trading injuries for kills and fighting recklessly through gunfire and blades.
They barely bothered dodging.
To make things worse, they had been fighting each other at the time.
Deadpool wanted to drag Logan into his own collapsing universe to serve as its anchor being.
Logan wanted absolutely nothing to do with that nonsense.
So they started throwing punches.
That was when the TVA caught up.
A three-way brawl broke out.
Several TVA agents died.
Then both Deadpool and Logan got clipped by the batons and were erased into the Void.
The Void.
A place at the end of time.
The TVA’s dumping ground.
Everything they didn’t want to deal with anymore got sent there.
People.
Creatures.
Entire realities.
And waiting in that wasteland was Alioth, a temporal monster that devoured matter, energy, and even time itself.
Finding Logan would be easy.
Rowan only needed to touch one of those batons and let it prune him into the Void.
The real problem was getting back.
"...Looks like I need to go learn how to draw circles."
Using a sling ring and borrowing dimensional energy to open portals was the simplest way out of the Void.
That was exactly how Deadpool and Logan escaped in the films.
Rowan had avoided Marvel-style magic before.
Those spells didn’t draw power from the caster.
They were loans taken from higher-dimensional entities.
With interest.
And those spells didn’t function properly outside their native cosmology.
Unless he fully reverse-engineered them.
But this situation was different.
Borrowing a little power from a dimensional being didn’t bother him.
At his current level, even a Skyfather-tier entity wasn’t a real threat.
A single-universe cosmic god leaving its home dimension would drop to roughly that same tier anyway.
As for true multiversal beings...
If he borrowed power, he could just pay it back.
He wasn’t planning to spam the spell.
Rowan stored the TVA corpses into his spatial inventory and vanished.
When he reappeared, he was standing in Kamar-Taj.
The courtyard was quiet.
The air smelled faintly of incense and tea.
The Ancient One sat at a low table, calmly pouring herself a cup.
"Supreme Sorcerer," Rowan said cheerfully. "Long time no see."
She glanced up, mildly surprised.
"Master Mercer. You’ve grown much stronger since our last meeting."
"Just a tiny bit," Rowan said modestly, waving a hand.
The last time he’d seen her, he was still struggling with demon gods.
Now he’d already eaten one.
And opened new clones across multiple worlds.
His growth curve had gone vertical.
"Why are you here?" the Ancient One asked, sliding him a cup of tea.
Rowan accepted it.
"One of my teachers got kidnapped by the Time Variance Authority and dumped into the Void. I’m going to bring him back. I need to learn portal magic."
The Ancient One paused.
"The TVA... and the Void. That is troublesome."
Then she smiled faintly.
"Teaching you portal magic isn’t difficult. But the future of this Earth has become... unstable. Humanity may soon begin migrating into space. If my successor leaves Earth, that becomes a problem."
Rowan understood instantly.
Stephen Strange.
His timeline was drifting.
"No need to worry," Rowan said smoothly. "Once I learn portal magic, I’m officially part of Kamar-Taj. I’ll keep things on track. The next Sorcerer Supreme won’t go missing."
The Ancient One studied him.
Then her gaze flicked briefly to the Time Stone at her chest.
Whatever future she saw there satisfied her.
"In truth," she said gently, "I already consider you one of us. You may learn any Kamar-Taj spell you wish. I will teach you personally."
Rowan smiled.
Some promises didn’t need to be spoken out loud.
