Chapter 936

"Wh-Where can I get the complete story?"

"...."

Julius stared at him for several seconds before the corner of his lips rose up in a subtle smile.

"Unfortunately for you Grey, I simply cannot tell you."

Grey lifted a brow, his interest piqued.

"Why?"

Julius frowned at him, though it was clearly not born out of anger.

"Knowledge is a truly heavy burden to bear. Some wisdom gives strength, but some," He paused as a dark gleam flashed across his golden eyes momentarily.

"— They can corrupt." He finished his sentence with a quiet, somber undertone.

Now Grey was totally curious.

He had always been a naturally inquisitive fellow, perpetually wanting to know more and delve deeper into how things functioned or what they could become.

Time and time again, he had realized how much he loathed suspense.

One thing remained his saving grace, however; what he desired usually walked on its own two feet to find him eventually.

History had already proved this fact to him repeatedly.

He wanted to learn more about the Otherworlders when he was younger, and they came to meet him on their own.

He wanted to relearn his magic and regain his lost memories, and they all crawled back to him in one go.

So he wasn’t worried, hence he casually shrugged his shoulders knowing that what he sought would be revealed to him sooner or later.

’Though, it might still take years.’

"Emperor Julius, what did you want to talk about? Shouldn’t you have been resting?" Amir asked, finally breaking the heavy silence.

The Emperor looked at the Captain for several seconds before exhaling quite tiredly.

"I have rested enough, Amir. For the past month, I have done nothing other than to recover. I’m tired of doing that. I want to explore, I want to know more, and I want to accomplish things I haven’t done for the past thirty days."

"Bu—"

Julius shut the man up with a sharp look from his eyes.

"This is important. My rest is not nearly as vital as what I want to say here today."

"It’s that important?" Grey cocked a brow in genuine confusion.

"You are the Emperor of the Velzoria Kingdom. Your recovery is very important to your citizens. If something bad happens to you, this kingdom might not make it."

Julius stared at the boy for a second before his lips curled up.

"Listen, I have always wanted to meet with you ever since you were a student at Lunaria academy.

I have always loved young geniuses, loved to discover more about our history, and loved to learn about rare affinities in the world along with things hidden in the universe."

The Emperor paused for a moment before his face suddenly hardened, as if he was trying so hard to hold back something painful.

A few seconds passed with him losing that struggle, so his hand which held his handkerchief shot up as he coughed violently into the white piece of clothing.

Wiping his mouth clean, he smiled at the duo who were looking at him with worried faces, yet neither of them had moved to help him.

"Ah... finding out that there was a new genius amongst the rising generation who could wield four affinities then— the same amount of affinities I wielded— I wanted to see him for myself so badly.

But unfortunately, I was hooked up with work and then the news of your supposed death reached me. To be honest with you, it saddened me a lot that a future powerhouse was gone."

The Emperor coughed for a second. Luckily, it wasn’t as long as the previous ones.

So he continued his words,

"Being an Emperor, I was privileged to a lot of knowledge and information that nobody had their hands on so I knew about the Otherworlders long before anyone did."

Grey frowned.

"Why didn’t you share this information with the public then? I mean, if the four academies had known about those bastards, they could have been better prepared and wouldn’t have faced destruction like they did."

"..."

Julius looked at the Supreme Magus with calm gaze.

"You knew about the Otherworlders before you came to Lunaria academy, right?"

"Yea?"

"So why didn’t you inform your friends of them. If they had known about this on time, didn’t you think they would be able to prevent all that happened?" Julius questioned with a calm intensity.

Grey frowned.

"I did it to protect them. If I had informed them of the threat the universe would face, they would have been unnecessarily worried. Living their lives in fear and worry of when an attack would occur, they wouldn’t have been able to enjoy their lives. I couldn’t let that happen."

Julius grinned.

"Now you get my point."

Grey wanted to say one more thing then paused thinking back to his words and only then did he realise how helpless the Emperor was at the time.

But one thing still remained dubious.

"Hang on. If you knew about the threat the Otherworlders posed, why didn’t you interfere in time before things got this worst? You could have managed to prevent the fall of the other academies."

The Emperor’s gaze darkened almost immediately as if recalling a bitter memory.

Then he sighed in exhaustion.

"For a while, I knew that the Otherworlders had quite the reach. They could have even planted spies in our midst. With how they hadn’t attacked this world for a while, I figured that they must have been wary of something.

I never knew it was you they were wary of, I always thought it was me. Ha..." Julius chuckled.

Then he continued,

"But how would they have known to be wary if they didn’t have a spy in our midst? And to be able to have every information they would need, the spy had to be a high ranking official in this Kingdom. Which led me to doubt my own surbodinates. Those I called my right hand men."

The Emperor paused for a moment before coughing again.

"... For your question, I didn’t rush to intervene because I wanted the betrayal to reveal himself. He did reveal himself but unfortunately, it was too late for me to do anything as about five zodiacs including Lucien were leading the attack and with the sudden betrayal, my other three surbodinates lost their lives and the three academies fell."

Amir’s head dropped as his gaze shifted to the table in front of him. To his imagination, a mural of the past was playing like a projector slide.

Grey’s brows furrowed in concerned at the coughing Emperor.

"So what now happened to you? How did you become th..." the mage quickly shut his mouth at the silly words that had almost slipped past his lips.

"Unfortunately, in the battle, I suffered a heavy blow that rendered my mana core cracked massively."

Grey’s eyes widened in deep shock.

"A cracked core?!"
