Chapter 925: Dodge This!
Chapter 925: Dodge This!
Chapter 925
An ashen portal spiraled open in front of Lunaria Academy, which had now been repurposed into a formidable military bastion.
The academy itself resembled a relic from an ancient era, yet its architecture bore the sophistication of something far beyond its time.
It stood like a sky-piercing monolith, its height rivaling the tallest trees in the nearby forest and stretching across several kilometers.
The structure was predominantly a deep, royal blue, its surface polished to a reflective sheen that gleamed under the sunlight, making the stone look almost ethereal.
A grand flag hung at the peak, fluttering proudly in the wind.
The emblem upon it was striking—a silver crescent moon cradling an upward-pointing, fiery-red arrow, all encased within a circular border adorned with delicate, star-like etchings.
Above the crescent moon, an inscription curved elegantly across the banner: "Scientia et Magic"—"Knowledge and Magic" in the ancient tongue.
Despite the academy’s open surroundings, an air of mystery lingered, as if unseen forces protected the institution from intruders.
The mere sight of the gargantuan edifice sent a shiver down the spines of both Elara and Jesse.
Grey was the last to step out of the swirling portal.
"Come in," he gestured, walking over to the massive double doors that served as the primary entrance to the building.
As the heavy doors creaked open, a wave of cool, crisp air washed over the trio.
The moment Grey and the others crossed the threshold, their eyes widened in genuine awe.
The entrance hall was vast—so expansive that it felt as though they had stepped into an entirely different dimension.
The high ceilings arched like the heavens, adorned with swirling patterns of silver and blue that shimmered as if they were alive.
At the very center, a grand chandelier comprised of floating crystalline orbs hovered in midair, gently rotating while casting a soft, luminescent glow across the expanse of the hall.
The floor consisted of polished obsidian, reflecting their images like a dark mirror, but with a strange twist—whenever they moved, faint wisps of magic trailed behind their reflections, as if the very ground was pulsing with mystical energy.
Lining the massive walls were colossal bookshelves stretching several stories high, overflowing with ancient tomes and weathered scrolls.
Some books hovered off the shelves, flipping open by themselves before returning to their designated places, their pages glowing faintly with glowing arcane symbols.
Grand floating staircases spiraled upward, leading to unseen levels of the academy, shifting positions every now and then as if following an invisible, rhythmic heartbeat.
At the far end of the hall, a massive stained-glass window dominated the wall, depicting the founders of Lunaria Academy—cloaked figures wielding raw elemental magic, their eyes glowing with ancient wisdom.
The glass wasn’t merely a still image; it moved, subtly shifting as if telling an ever-evolving story of the school’s lineage.
To the left, an open corridor revealed a glimpse of what lay beyond—a vast dining hall with levitating trays carrying food, enchanted cutlery setting themselves, and long tables where students usually engaged in lively conversations.
Now, however, only squad members dominated the area, their robes bearing unique symbols that hinted at different factions or specific specializations within the academy.
To the right, another corridor led toward an arcane training chamber, where the faint, rhythmic hum of magic crackling in the air could be felt by anyone sensitive to the elements.
Above them, the academy seemed endless—floating platforms and staircases drifted through the air in a complex, vertical maze.
Jesse was in absolute awe at the spectacle, her gaze marveling at every detail.
Her eyes widened, taking in the impossible architecture.
"Woah! This place is beautiful. Is this where you stay now?"
Elara, by contrast, was looking around nervously, her posture tense as if she expected something to jump out of the shadows or creep up on her from the dark corners of the hall.
Tak. Tak. Tak.
"Hm. I was notified of a new presence in the base."
A voice echoed from the floating platforms above as a man drifted closer, descending toward them with effortless grace.
"Captain Amir," Grey called out calmly.
Scanning the two females, the Captain smiled warmly.
"Oh. You brought the elf princess and your sister back here, huh? That’s good."
Grey awkwardly scratched the back of his head, looking a bit sheepish.
"Yeah. I figured that my mind wouldn’t be at peace with them so far away from me, so I had to bring them here where my eyes could always see them. I’m sorry for not informing you ahead of time."
Amir waved his hand dismissively with a reassuring grin. "It’s not a big deal."
Turning toward the newcomers, he beamed at them. "Feel at home. Feel free to explore, train, eat, rest, or do whatever you like. No restrictions, no restraints."
Elara gave a curt, respectful nod to the Captain.
"Yippee!" Jesse exclaimed with a wide smile, her nose twitching as she sniffed the air a few times. "Is that chicken I smell?!"
Amir chuckled at her enthusiasm.
"Of course. You can go grab something to eat from the canteen way ov—"
"—Not now. I still have something to do with Jesse." Grey interrupted, grabbing the girl’s hand gently and beginning to lead her away from the group.
"Brother Grey, what is more important than chicken?!" Jesse almost cried out in protest as she was pulled along.
"Elara, rest up. Connect with the others and maybe get something to eat. We will be back," Grey spoke over his shoulder as he headed toward the corridor that led to the arcane training rooms.
Amir and Elara exchanged brief glances before shrugging at his typical intensity.
The elf princess took a random path to explore the facilities, while Amir, still perched on his floating platform, drifted back toward the upper levels from whence he came.
.....
Inside one of the reinforced training rooms, Grey and Jesse stood alone.
The two faced each other, with the young girl pouting deeply, her foot tapping the ground in an angry rhythm.
"Now what is it? I wanted to eat chicken! It has been months since I last tas—"
The girl’s words trailed off abruptly as her eyes widened in horror.
Crackle! Crackle! Crackle!
Blue arcs of lightning began to dance up and down Grey’s arms, his expression shifting into a predatory glare that brooked no argument.
"Dodge this!" he uttered sharply.
He swung his hands forward, sending a jagged bolt of lightning flying in the girl’s direction at a lethal, blinding speed.
