Chapter 923: Recall?

Chapter 923: Recall?

Chapter 923

ONE WEEK LATER!

Another week had already slipped by since Grey’s return to Arondale.

Operations at the base were proceeding smoothly.

Grey’s squad was currently under Kael’s tutelage, learning the intricacies of utilizing a domain and refining their coordination as a unified team.

So far, the warrior mage hadn’t encountered anyone from the other squads within the facility.

Amir informed him that they were all away on various missions and weren’t expected back for another day or so.

Consequently, Grey remained composed.

Max and Charlotte had not yet returned, presumably occupied with burial arrangements and the aftermath of recent events.

The mage didn’t bother paying them a visit, choosing instead to grant them the necessary space to sort through their affairs.

During that interval, he found himself simply idling about without much to do.

Eventually, boredom set in, prompting him to return to the elven community to check on Elara and Jesse.

Within a few moments, he had arrived.

The elven village appeared desolate and quiet, with not a single soul in sight.

Grey heaved a tired sigh and began heading toward the area where he suspected the two girls would be located.

Soon, he reached the massive tree that supported a now-smaller dwelling.

Outside, Elara and Jesse could be seen... playing?

It appeared to be a game of hide-and-seek; the elven princess had her eyes obscured by a thick black cloth, her hands moving frantically through the air as she spun around in an attempt to capture Jesse.

Meanwhile, his sister proved to be remarkably nimble.

She was quick to evade each of Elara’s lunges, giggling occasionally.

Whenever the elf was on the verge of catching her, Jesse would leap into the air, maneuvering around her with impressive fluidity.

Grey watched, enthralled.

’How is she so fast? It’s almost as if she’s utilizing wind magic, yet I can’t sense any elemental traces.’

His brows furrowed as that thought took root.

Focusing his attention directly on Jesse, his eyes suddenly lit up with realization.

’Hold on. How did I miss this before? She... she has cultivated mana! But how is that feasible? She is far too young to form a mana core, let alone wield magic. So how?!’

"You cannot catch me...." Jesse giggled just as Elara spun once more.

This time, several tree branches shot out swiftly, wrapping around Jesse’s feet and securing her in place.

"Gotcha," Elara chuckled, pulling down her blindfold.

Jesse pouted immediately.

"That is cheating. You used your magic to trap me. It’s not fair."

Elara shrugged wearily.

"Well, you were too quick. I had no choi—"

Her words trailed off as she looked up to see Grey standing a short distance away, his arms crossed and a thoughtful expression on his face.

"... Oh, hey Grey. You’re back already?"

Upon hearing her, Jesse turned to see the Supreme Magus.

Her eyes sparkled with delight; she hadn’t noticed his presence earlier, having been entirely engrossed in outmaneuvering the elf.

"Brother GREY!" Jesse shouted as the branches loosened their grip on her legs.

She rushed forward and, within seconds, reached the mage, who hoisted her into his arms.

"Yikes. I didn’t realize it until now, but you’ve grown in both height and weight. My arms are throbbing from the effort. What exactly have you been eating at the elves’ expense, you little monster?" Grey teased in a mocking tone.

Jesse’s face clouded over with a frown. "Are you calling me fat, Brother Grey?"

"Fat? When did I ever say that?" The Supreme Magus asked, visibly taken aback by how quickly his words had been misinterpreted.

Jesse pouted and turned her head away defiantly.

"Don’t speak to Jesse again. You can put me down if your hands hurt so much."

Grey chuckled softly and reached out to pinch her cheeks affectionately.

"You are already eleven years old, and will be twelve in a few months or so, yet you are behaving like a five-year-old? How cute."

Jesse swatted his hand away with a deep frown. "I’m still a child, regardless."

"Yeah, yeah. An annoying child, indeed."

"Brother GREY..." The girl looked as though she were on the verge of tears.

"Oh, chill, crybaby. I was just pulling your leg."

Grey smiled as he reached out to ruffle her hair, but he suddenly paused.

’Huh?’

Looking into her eyes, he frowned.

"When did your eyes change color to golden?"

Jesse looked visibly surprised by the question. "Changed color?"

Grey quickly lowered the girl back to her feet and crouched down in front of her to stare deeper into her gaze.

Elara sauntered over, the bags under her eyes looking heavy as if she had barely rested in days.

Standing behind Grey, she peered into the girl’s eyes with curiosity.

She hadn’t noticed the change before, nor had she been entirely certain what the girl’s original eye color was.

But if Grey claimed it had shifted, it was quite concerning.

"Wait. Jesse; I have been meaning to ask. How did you get to the elven community? What happened? I was too busy to even inquire earlier."

Jesse paused as she searched inwardly, trying to recall the events that had led her here.

She frowned as she found it increasingly difficult to remember what had occurred properly.

Seeing her struggle, Grey’s gaze narrowed.

"You can’t remember anything?"

Jesse didn’t reply instantly.

Her head began to throb the more she attempted to recall the past.

This pressure forced her to yelp loudly and grab her hair in pain.

’Th... memory loss? This was what happened to me.’ Grey’s eyes widened.

He reached out to grab hold of the girl, intending to stop her from forcing the recollection, when she suddenly looked up with moist, shimmering eyes.

"B-B-Brother Grey, I-I was kidnapped and brought here," Jesse finally croaked out, tears streaming down her cheeks in waves.

Elara and Grey exchanged stunned glances before shouting in unison:

"What?!"

A/N: Hey Magus Legion. I trust you are all okay?

I just want to say, this author is running low on motivation. Looked at this book and I was so sad with how bad it has performed and still is performing. We are one last arc away from the end of the book yet no big achievements.

I’m so tired and frustrated that I have contemplated whether to drop the book or not. Don’t know why I’m sharing this to y’all but I just felt like ranting right now.

Sigh... Please give some motivation to this poor author before I lose my mind 😫😭
