Chapter 919: Karma (1)

Chapter 919

"....."

A heavy, suffocating silence permeated the hall for several minutes.

Grey remained crouched before Bale’s remains, which had finally collapsed onto the floor with a loud, wet thud, splashing a spray of crimson into the air.

The officials did not dare take a single step forward, nor did they utter a solitary word.

Even Janet remained frozen on the raised dais—standing before the thrones—unable to move a muscle out of sheer terror.

After staring at the body for a few more moments in deep silence, Grey took a labored breath.

He tilted his head back to gaze at the ceiling, then exhaled slowly.

"Ah.... I wonder why people crave revenge so much? I don’t even know how to feel about this for some reason."

Grey sighed, scratching his hair for a few seconds while letting out a tired, mirthless chuckle.

"Man... this is totally exhausting. I just finished battling with my friends and now I’m here? Man... when am I even going to get some rest?" The mage muttered under his breath before rising to his full height.

’... When will I truly find peace? No wars. No battles. No conflict. Just me and my freedom.’

"Cough...." One of the officials couldn’t hold it in any longer; he released his held breath and began coughing uncontrollably, his lungs burning from the tension.

This sudden noise broke Grey’s train of thought.

He slowly tilted his head in the man’s direction, a visible frown settling on his face.

"Right... I still have some tasks to complete."

Hearing those words, every single official turned to glare at the coughing man with murderous intensity, as if they were ready to pounce on him for drawing the monster’s attention.

The two officials who had previously had their hands severed immediately fell to their knees in a state of total panic, tears streaming down their faces.

"Pl-Pl-Please don’t kill us... we haven’t done anything! It was all Bale. We didn’t have a single hand in Cedric’s death. Bale had already finished with it before we even knew. Please don’t do what you are thinking!"

Grey blinked in genuine surprise, his expression shifting to one of mock bewilderment.

"Eh? I shouldn’t do what I’m thinking? So... that means I shouldn’t set you guys free, huh?"

"Wh—?" The officials lifted their heads to stare at the warrior mage in utter confusion.

"Se-Set us free?"

Grey shrugged his shoulders casually.

"Since you said I shouldn’t do what is in my mind, then you can all just die."

"No, no, no, no! No! That’s not what we meant to say! Please, definitely do what’s in your mind! Do what you plan on doing! Please, let us go!" The man who had coughed pleaded desperately, his tears falling in waves.

"Hm... do what’s in my mind, eh?" Grey repeated, a wide, unsettling smile resting on his face.

"Well then, get ready to die, since that’s what’s in my mind. Your deaths."

"Wha—"

The men were totally bewildered, their minds spinning as they failed to grasp his intent.

Grey just shrugged again and began walking forward, moving toward the throne where Janet stood paralyzed.

"I’m just kidding. You all can leave."

He continued his stride until he passed the officials, who watched him with wide, disbelieving eyes.

Was he letting them go? Just like that? Was it truly that easy?

"Don’t make me repeat myself or change my mind," Grey uttered, his voice dropping an octave.

His words finally snapped the men out of their stupor.

They swiftly sprang to their feet and lunged toward the double doors ten meters away, desperate to escape the chamber of death.

Grey finally came to a halt directly in front of Janet, who was staring up at him with her neck craned.

The image of the fifteen-year-old boy who had caused her to be locked up by Cedric flashed back into her mind as she gazed at him.

In that moment of terror, something struck her.

’Wait... I have a weapon I can use.’

Grey kept looking her over, scanning her from head to toe with a look of pure disdain.

"I can’t believe it. Lord Cedric loved you with all his heart. He got married to you. His kids treated you the way they would treat their own mother. They didn’t consider you a step-mom, but what did you do in return?"

The warrior mage was grinding his teeth repeatedly as he stared into the woman’s beautiful eyes.

"... You kidnapped Max and almost forced the town lord to give up Kiten to Bale. You poisoned Lord Cedric slowly, trying to finish him off. If we hadn’t found out in time, he would have died."

Grey paused before shaking his head with a heavy, weary sigh.

"Not like that matters now. We just delayed the inevitable. Now, you finally killed him. Did you think karma wouldn’t visit you and your lover?"

As Grey spoke, Janet’s eyes grew moist.

She began walking toward the mage with steady, deliberate steps, her expression shifting into something far more calculated.

"I-I-I didn’t want to do that. Trust me. It was all Bale. He blackmailed me, threatening that he would expose the truth—that we had a child together—to Cedric. I was scared, panicked, and didn’t know what to do when I did all I did. I’m so sorry," Janet cried as she stood directly in front of the mage.

After a few seconds, she sniffled and wiped her face for a brief moment.

"... But I promise to change. Just give me one last chance."

As she spoke, she reached out, tracing her finger across Grey’s chest with a practiced, seductive smile.

She shifted her posture, positioning herself in a way that left little to the imagination.

"I won’t do it again, Grey," she called out his name with a soft, lingering moan.

The Supreme Magus stared at her with a completely stoic expression, his gaze like ice.

"You disgust me. I want to kill you so bad."

Janet was horrified for a split second before calming herself, leaning toward the mage until her face was almost touching his.

She pressed herself against him, using every ounce of her charm to bridge the gap.

"Surely you wouldn’t hurt a woman, right? You won’t harm a lady? You aren’t like that. You are a real man," Janet spoke in a slight hush, her breath falling on Grey’s face.

She noticed the mage’s eyes widen for a moment before settling back down.

He reached out, grabbing her waist and pulling her closer to his body with a firm grip.

Janet smiled inwardly.

’I know that no man can resist my charm and beau—huh?’

Her eyes widened in sudden terror as she felt the mage’s grip on her waist increasing with every passing second.

The pressure became so intense and uncomfortable that it felt as though her very frame was reaching its breaking point.

"No, no, no, no! Let me go! Let me go!" she screamed in a state of intense panic.

Grey smiled incredulously, the expression never reaching his cold eyes.

"What happened? Don’t want to be close anymore? Come on sweetheart, move closer."

As he spoke, the force he exerted became overwhelming.

Janet began to gasp as the physical toll of his strength became too much to bear.

"LEAVE ME!"

Grey held her fast as she began raining down desperate hits on his chest, but the blows did not affect the warrior mage in the slightest.

"For the record," the Supreme Magus said, his voice dropping to a terrifying whisper.

With a sudden flood of Ki to his arms, he exerted a final, crushing force.

Janet’s strength vanished instantly.

She crumpled to the ground, her body broken and her eyes flickering as the life began to drain out of her.

"... My fists do not discriminate between males and females."

Thud—!

He immediately turned around to see the officials just a meter away from the double doors.

They had been struggling to flee, hindered by the slick blood covering the marble flooring and the hundreds of bodies littering the entire hall.
