Chapter 899: Learning Magus Dominion
Chapter 899: Learning Magus Dominion
Chapter 899
ONE WEEK LATER!
Elara had finally regained enough of her composure to lay her family and the fallen elves to rest.
The somber task had occupied her for several days, but once the final rites were administered, she retreated into a deep, hollow silence, locking herself away from the world.
Occasionally, young Jesse checked in on her, attempting to provide some semblance of comfort; however, there was only so much a ten-year-old girl could do to mend a shattered heart.
Following the ordeal of the elven burials, Grey and Amir ventured deep into the heart of the ancient forest.
They sought a vast, secluded expanse that would allow them to unleash their powers without restraint.
Although the area was densely packed with towering trees—and the Supreme Magus was loath to damage the flora out of respect for the grieving elven community—he realized he had little choice.
There was simply no other sanctuary suitable for the magnitude of their task.
Today was finally the day. The day the Supreme Magus would begin his descent into the mysteries of the Magus Dominion.
Standing four metres apart on a carpet of moss and fallen leaves, Amir began the lecture:
"Now, listen closely. It usually takes even the most gifted mages many months to manifest a true domain. Some require seven months, others eight; if you are exceptionally talented, like the Emperor himself, you might manage to manifest one within a single month."
Nodding solemnly at the timeline, Amir continued:
"Let us begin.... First, you must understand that a domain is fundamentally different from a spell. It is not a construct of mana; it is your direct authority over the natural world.
When casting standard magic, you draw mana from the environment, allow it to circulate through your core, and then expend it as a specific technique.
But in the case of a domain, the world borrows its laws from you. This necessitates absolute mastery over your element and your internal mana flow. In your specific case, I suspect this hurdle won’t be difficult at all. You have already achieved that level of precision."
Grey nodded, his mind perfectly synchronizing with the theory being presented.
Amir pressed on, his voice echoing through the quiet glade:
"Now, unto the first practical step. We refer to this as ’Mana Territory Awareness.’ I want you to project your mana around your physical form without forming a spell. Extend it outward like a fine mist, allowing it to saturate the air so you can sense every vibration within your immediate space."
Grey shrugged and immediately set to work.
It didn’t even take him a full second to execute the command.
His perception exploded outward.
He could sense everything with startling clarity: the distant chirping of birds, the subtle scurrying of small animals deep within the underbrush, and the very hum of the forest itself.
Observing the rapid expansion of the field, Amir nodded in approval.
"Next exercise: Mana Territory Stabilisation. I want you to maintain that field without letting it disperse or fade.
Ensure there is no leakage of excess energy, no fluctuating density, and—most importantly—no accidental spellcasting. A domain will collapse instantly if your mana trembles even slightly."
"Like this?" Grey asked.
Almost instantly, the wandering mist of energy pulled tight.
He condensed the aura around him into a perfect, shimmering sphere, holding the pressure in place without showing any visible strain.
Amir was visibly impressed, his eyebrows shooting upward.
’At this rate, I might be finished tutoring him in just a few days,’ the Principal thought.
Grey held the stabilization for several minutes, showing a level of control that earned him a firm nod from the Captain.
"The next exercise on our list is to expand your territory. To manifest a domain, you must discover your absolute limit. You need to know how far and how wide your influence can reach.
For context, I can only extend my own domain for six metres. Nothing more, nothing less. So, to gauge your potential, I want you to spread your mana as far as you possibly can. Push it out."
Grey shrugged again and obeyed.
The moment he released the floodgates, Amir gasped in pure, unadulterated shock at the sheer pressure of the expanding field.
"Ho—How? Fi—Fifteen metres?! What kind of a monster are you?!" Amir shouted, his voice cracking as he stared at the young mage.
He shook his head, trying to clear the bewilderment.
’Focus, Amir. No time to gawk. Keep the lesson moving.’
Snapping out of his stunned silence, Amir looked back at Grey.
"Now, instead of raw mana, I want you to saturate your marked territory with a specific element. Since you are a multi-elementalist, you must decide which singular element you want your domain to manifest."
Grey lifted an eyebrow, a look of genuine confusion crossing his face.
"Choose an element? Why should I have to limit myself to just one when I possess multiple?"
Amir let out a long, weary sigh.
"The problem is that even the Emperor, as talented as he is, cannot charge his domain with more than two elements—and he possesses four. So even if you have ten, unless you wish to mentally cripple yourself, you must select a primary element and understand your limitations."
Grey stared at the Captain for a few quiet moments, his mind racing through the possibilities.
"So, how do I actually begin the charging process?"
Amir pointed a firm finger toward the young mage, his expression hardening with focus.
"The same way you projected your mana fifteen metres wide—spread the element of your choice plainly in that exact same instance. Once you have saturated the area, you must impose the specific law you desire for your domain."
"Law?" Grey raised a brow, the term sounding foreign in this context.
Amir pulled his head back for a moment in sheer disbelief, his eyes widening.
"Have you forgotten the fundamentals? A domain allows a mage to enact their personal law upon the world in order to shape reality however they deem fit.
In simpler terms; let’s take your fire element, for instance... you could impose a law within your territory that ensures the area burns ten times as intensely as the heart of a volcano."
The Captain paused for a brief moment, lost in deep thought, before adding a stern warning:
"... Just one law, though. If you attempt to impose more than a single decree, the entire domain will crumble under the weight of the conflicting realities. You are a beginner, so do not attempt to move past your natural limit."
"Anything else?" Grey asked, his posture shifting as he prepared to charge the stagnant air with the volatile element of his choice.
"Yes." Amir nodded gravely.
"You must go through all the steps I’ve outlined in incredibly quick succession. Weave them all together seamlessly and then impose the law you want. If you are unable to knit these actions as fast as humanly possible, the structure will shatter and your domain will simply fail to manifest."
Amir took a deep breath, his voice lowering as he emphasized the difficulty of the feat.
"That is exactly why I said it usually takes months for people to be able to manifest one; the mental strain of weaving these layers together in a heartbeat is immense."
Amir took another stabilizing breath before adding:
"After you have accomplished all of this—once you have imposed your law—you then declare ’Magus Dominion’ along with the unique name of your domain in order to unleash its power upon the world."
Grey stared into the eyes of the Captain for several silent seconds, his crimson hair swaying slightly in a phantom breeze.
"Is that all?"
The Captain nodded, slowly closing his eyes as if preparing for a long afternoon of repeated failures.
"Just take your time and do not rush. Though you are undeniably talented and powerful, don’t beat yourself up too much if you take mo—"
’Huh?’ Amir mused, his instincts screaming.
He swiftly snapped his eyes open only to witness something he never thought he would see in a thousand years.
"Magus Dominion."
BOOOOM—!
