Chapter 140: The End
Chapter 140: The End
"I don’t like coffee, Big Sis!! Can I order ice cream! And if I can, can it be that strawberry one over there! It’s a bit expensive but I’ll pay if you can’t!" the girl in front of me says excitedly as I drink a cup of coffee.
"You can have any flavor you want, Little angel, don’t worry, I’ll pay for it," I say, smiling at her.
"Thank you!! You’re so kind, Big Sis!" She quickly calls the waiter and places her order as I watch her.
"Your birthday is in a week, right?" I ask, placing my coffee on the table.
"Yes! I’ll be 18 soon! I’ll be a legal adult... Big Sis, you’ll say yes if I ask you out, right?!" she asks hopefully.
"Maybe once you graduate from college, Little angel, if you still want to, of course. I’m a bit too old for that, aren’t I? Hahaha," I laugh, my mature tone of voice a stark contrast to the past. The girl in front of me immediately blushes.
"..."
"W-Well, I’m sure I’ll still like you then, Big Sis! You’re like an angel who helped my family! Mom and Dad like you a lot too! I’m sure they’d approve!" she speaks confidently as her ice cream arrives.
"Maybe so... your parents are kind people, so it’s only natural that kindness attracts kindness... I like your family too. They’re simple but very sweet and kind to everyone... You were undoubtedly raised well."
"Yes! They’re amazing... I wish I could help them more... To be honest, I was really worried about the cost of college. Unfortunately, I’m not smart enough to get a full scholarship, so I only got one for 25%."
"I’m so grateful that you paid for me!" She takes a bite of her ice cream, looking at me with gratitude.
"It was nothing. I’m friends with your parents, so it’s only natural to help out a little. Besides, you deserve it... In the end, I think if I have money, I should use it to help others, don’t you think?"
"Yes! You’re truly incredible. I heard you founded another foundation for orphans; that’s so cool! Like, you’re really rich, but you still look after everyone... I wish my classmates were nice like that. They need to learn to be more humble," she murmurs, taking a spoonful of her ice cream.
"You overestimate me too much, Little angel. I’m not that incredible... I’ve also made many mistakes in the past. But what matters is being better in the future," I say, pulling out my wallet and asking for the check.
"Do you want anything else, Little angel?"
"No! Just this! Thank you for paying!" she says with sweetness in her voice as I smile.
"But hey, Big Sis, you said you’d tell me how you lost your arm!... Sorry for being rude, hahaha... but I’m curious. Your prosthesis looks really cool, but the reason you have it is what makes me wonder." I look at my arm when she says this.
"...Hmmm... I lost it a while ago in an accident. It’s not a very interesting story to tell... Besides, don’t you think you’re being a little too curious?"
"!!!"
"Sorry!!"
"Little angel, don’t apologize with your mouth full, and it’s okay... It’s in the past. I don’t think it matters anymore; it’s just not a comfortable topic for me..." I look at the watch on my wrist, a vintage antique watch I had custom-made.
"Looks like I only have 30 minutes left..." When I say this, she looks disappointed.
"Aww... Can’t you stay a little longer, Big Sis?!"
"I’m sorry, Little angel, but I can’t. However, you can be sure I’ll show up for your 18th birthday. It’s an important milestone in your life."
"Uh-huh! Absolutely! Turning 18 seems to open so many doors! I’m thinking of becoming a doctor! Saving lives!"
"Oh, really? And what gave you that idea?" I ask curiously.
"You! You use your money to save thousands of people. Your work helps so many people it’s impossible to count. I want to save lives too, and I think medicine is a good path." Her tone is confident and genuine, filled with a desire to help others.
"That’s wonderful, Little angel! Although it’s a difficult path..."
"...Don’t even get me started! Math is so complicated! Seriously, all those absurd calculations! But I’m determined! If I save just one life, it would be an extremely happy day for me. Because I want to be like you! You give hope to so many people."
"..."
"Little angel, I’m not sure I’m the best person to look up to, although I’m honored you admire me so much... So... how are the confessions going? Did you get any more?" When I say this, she gets nervous and flustered.
"Y-Yes... A girl from my class asked me out... but I turned her down. I felt bad for her, but I don’t know her at all and knew I couldn’t return her feelings... But we became friends after that! She’s a really nice girl." I nod in approval as she speaks.
"You’re so kind, Little angel..." I stir my coffee with a small spoon and then drink it all in one gulp.
"You have many admirers... Perhaps you’ll find love with one of them." My smile makes her embarrassed.
"M-Maybe... but Big Sis, you will always be number 1 in my heart! And I’ll still try to pursue you if no one truly good for building a future with comes along..."
"AHH!! The time!!" She quickly jumps up from the table upon seeing the clock on the wall.
"Need a ride?" I ask as she shakes her head.
"No need! It’s not far! But I need to go to the stationery store to buy some things for the party! Mom will be mad if I don’t get everything she asked for! She’s really sweet, but when she’s angry, she’s scary!"
"Alright..." I stand up too, leaving a tip on the table and transferring the payment via my phone. I then accompany her outside.
"Thank you for spending time with me, Big Sis Ayane! I’ll see you at my party! Take care!" She starts running while waving. She takes one last look at me and gives a smile as bright as the "sun."
"Of course... take care... Setsuna." I give just a slight wave of my hand as I look at the roof, spotting a black cat staring at me.
"You should stay away from her... She is no longer the one you want to bring back... Just as it’s impossible to bring her back either... So... don’t get too close to her... black cat." I say, knowing the cat will hear me from here.
The cat stares intently at me before getting up and leaving. I look at my watch, a watch exactly like the one she, the one I loved, had.
"I feel like... I’ll never be able to fix all the harm we both caused... But you’ve improved... so much... You have a loving family... friends..."
"Dreams for the future and genuine feelings of affection... I’m happy for you, that you’re finally living a good life." I murmur, deciding to just rest for a while as I gaze at the sky.
"All the damage to the city has been repaired, and everything has returned to stability... Of course, it’s been 190 years since that happened... I think for humans, 190 years is a long time..."
"Can you believe they blame all that damage on a meteor? Hahaha. We’re like a meteor to humans..." I sit on a bench, talking quietly to myself.
"...I’m grateful for the happiness you give me now... Even if it will never be the same as the past... I think it’s better this way." I smile at the sky, a sweet smile from someone who has secured a better future—not a perfect one, but a pleasant stability.
"My chest burns whenever I think of you... I’d like to say it’s still passion... but I’d be lying to both of us... You really left me with scars so I would never forget you..."
"..." I look at my arm, one of the proofs that she once truly existed.
’Thank you for changing... and thank you for loving me once... even if it got lost along the wrong path...’ I give thanks, a "ritual" I perform every day—thanking the positive changes in my life to attract more good things for my future and for Setsuna’s future, the girl I will always love despite the mistakes she made.

END
------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello readers... Well, this is the end of this story. I know it was relatively fast, short, and had a few small errors here and there, but it was still an interesting story to write, even though I rushed the ending.
This story shows how obsession is a destructive feeling, one that doesn’t necessarily lead to a happy ending for anyone involved. In the end, it’s a self-destructive sentiment that sabotages any relationship.
I know many might not care much about the deeper meaning of the work, but I believe the way I approached the theme itself was interesting.
This work was written quite a while ago and has been sitting on my Notebook. It’s been on my computer for about 8 months, and while it might not seem like much, 8 months is a long time!
I’ve improved a lot in my current works! The most recent work I’m writing at this very moment is [F-Rank Puppeteer!! But I’ll be Queen, and I’m not a narcissist!!!!!], which has a more "unique" and well-developed, complete plot.
An improved writing style and an even broader and more interesting storyline! This shows my evolution in writing! I hope you understand that this current work is older, and 8 months ago I was still very much a beginner at writing.
I thank everyone who made it this far, and if you’re interested, you could go read my other works!!
Of course, I believe in the potential this story had. It was short, but I used it to learn many things and to recognize many mistakes I made in this work! Ensuring that future works won’t have those same mistakes.
But enough about mistakes, as if I’m making excuses! What matters now is that this is the end of this story, and just as I learned something from it, I hope all of you who made it here had fun.
It’s a sad ending for both Setsuna and Ayane, but it was a necessary ending, even if tragic. I hope you give my other works—both existing and future ones—a chance and that you enjoy them.
Because reading is something to be fun and engaging to follow over time! And I hope that, despite the story’s dark tone, the lesson behind it is understood: the harmful effects of uncontrolled love for another person.
The work’s purpose was never to ridicule or insult such people, only to show the destructive consequences of such a relationship in a fictional and quite extreme way, which I believe I did well! Although I could have utilized the characters’ abilities more.
Well, I think that’s all! I’ll end this little note here. Thank you for reading this far, and have great future readings OwO.
