Chapter 1: The Art Student Who Failed the Exam

Chapter 1: The Art Student Who Failed the Exam

Years later, Li Ge, who became a prominent figure at a magic high school, would remember that afternoon when he failed his art exam.

……

In Viona, the economic capital of the Silla Empire, crowds thronged in front of the art academy's admission list.

Li Ge pushed up her glasses, and after searching through the dense list of names for the third time, she finally sighed. There was nothing there... The name "Li Ge" was not on the music department's admission list.

Li Ge has been in this world for two days. After the initial panic and fear, he has gradually learned to integrate into this world and wants to follow the original path to enroll in school and then become an artist who can make a name for himself in the noble circles of the entire Silla Empire, relying on his memories from his previous life to become a plagiarist in the art world.

until……

"I'm sorry, junior, you weren't admitted to the music department. However, the architecture department hasn't filled all its places yet. Would you be interested in going to the architecture school next door?" the bespectacled senior in front of me said apologetically.

The senior student has a very distinctive look; she has a pretty face, wears braids, and has a slightly chubby face. Although she's not fat at all, she always gives people the illusion of being a little plump...

Perhaps it's because even the loose-fitting school uniform at the art academy couldn't hide her voluptuous figure; it seems her future children will certainly not go hungry.

She's the type of woman you wouldn't even dare to imagine how comfortable it would be to marry.

"No need, senior." Li Ge forced a smile. "If I don't get into the music department, I'll prepare to try again."

"Wait a minute, junior, it would be good to exchange contact information—"

Li Ge had already turned and left, waving her hand without looking back. Sunlight streamed onto the streets of Viona, a city that held countless dreams, but at this moment, Li Ge felt like an outsider.

Li Ge is a time traveler, or more accurately, a "reincarnated person". Two days ago, on his 16th birthday, he received his parents' belongings being held by the city hall, and at the same time, he awakened the memories of his previous life as a college student who failed the postgraduate entrance exam and was preparing for the second time.

In this life, his parents died when he was very young, leaving only his aunt to raise him with great difficulty. His aunt was often away from home due to work, and as far as he remembered, he had lived alone for most of his childhood.

Seeing his parents' belongings, Li Ge felt somewhat relieved, since he had basically no memory of his parents in this life; they were just two people who existed only in his aunt's words.

Upon opening the box, there was only a clown mask with a half-smile, cold to the touch. The moment his hand touched the mask, it seemed to come alive and instantly crawled onto his face, perfectly fitting his features.

When Li Ge tried to remove the mask, she was surprised to find that it had completely merged with her face, even becoming part of it.

From then on, whenever he had a thought, the mask would appear, and this mask seemed to be guiding him to do something.

Back at his home in the affluent neighborhood, Li Ge slumped onto the sofa. The disappointment of failing the exam wasn't actually that strong, since he had already experienced it once in his previous life. What truly unsettled him was the indistinct murmur from the mask that kept echoing in his mind.

"If I can't be a plagiarist in the music industry, what am I supposed to do now?" Li Ge complained to the mask. He actually felt that he was quite ill, actually talking to a mask.

He originally planned to start copying songs and music after entering Viona Art Academy, and then smoothly reach the pinnacle of his life. Unfortunately, his business failed halfway through.

After all, the clown mask was a keepsake from her parents. When Li Ge talked to this mask, she always felt like she was talking to her biological parents whom she had never met.

"I must be crazy to actually talk to you." Li Ge looked at the mask, sighed, and put the mask back on. However, the next moment, the view in front of her completely changed.

A line of flamboyant, gold-embossed characters reading "Magic High School Admission Brochure" immediately came into view.

Then, his vision completely changed. Majestic castles floated in starlight, students traversed covered bridges on flying skateboards, test tubes in the laboratory emitted fireworks, magical light intertwined in the arena, golden-haired elves and short, stocky orcs studied together, and incomprehensible rune formulas were written on the blackboard...

The rousing background music and the accompanying tone of voice filled my ears.

"Magic High School, our alma mater."

Prosperity, peace, and flourishing attract elite students from all over the world, but order is not something that can be easily obtained.

Li Ge's lips twitched. This is GG... why does it sound like a scam in northern Myanmar?

Or are the Warhammer yellow-skinned people having trouble recruiting again and resorting to other fake news to scam people? Surely I didn't somehow travel to Warhammer, did I?

Just as Li Ge was about to ignore this strange-looking scammer, bright words appeared in front of her the next instant.

"Those who have read this post are considered to have confirmed their participation."

At this moment, Li Ge felt as if she had fallen into an abyss, cold and trembling.

Finally, all he could do was yell at the clown mask that was a memento from his parents: "A generous gift of crabs!"

Cold, shivering...

The air was filled with the distinctive smell of heavy industry pollution and an indescribable stench of decay.

In the distance, there was a city in utter ruin. The kindergarten's carousel had been rusted into a jungle of iron thorns, and a doll was stuck between the railings, mushrooms growing from its glass eyes.

The strangest thing was that there was no sound, no birdsong, no insect chirping, and even the wind seemed to pass cautiously through the broken window frame.

He fell from the spatial rift into the ruins filled with the stench of decay and dust, surrounded by four or five other young people of similar age, dressed differently, and equally bewildered.

Li Ge looked down and noticed that she had somehow gotten a high-tech wristwatch on. The screen lit up:

[New Player Assessment Dungeon: Silent Dawn]

[Mission Objective: Survive for 72 hours / Locate and clean up the source of contamination]

Current pollution level: 1%

[Candidate ID: 9528]

【Good luck.】

Li Ge: Where did I get here? Is this still within the Empire? Have I been tricked into some kind of god space?

Could it be that GG isn't the yellow weasel's recruitment GG, but rather the forced recruitment pop-up from the Main God Space?

Even the senior person Li Ge had been hoping for didn't come to tell her, "You are the most qualified person in this group."

All around him were a few people who, like him, looked bewildered or had solemn expressions.

Li Ge looked around and saw a heavily armored knight dressed in full plate armor, a boy who looked like a newsboy, and a dwarf covered in a long robe, hiding in the shadows.

He took a deep breath and could smell the pungent industrial pollution, like burnt hair, a smell that permeated every part of the air.

Clearly, all four of them were on guard. They didn't make a scene or panic. Except for the newsboy-like man, who seemed a bit pathetic, the other three were sizing each other up.

In particular, both the heavily armored knight and the black-robed dwarf stared intently at Li Ge's face.

Li Ge touched his face and found that the clown mask was on his face, which was not surprising. Since merging with the clown mask, he often did not know whether he was wearing a mask or not, because this thing really felt like his own skin.

Everyone had a watch on their wrist. If it weren't for the circumstances, Li Ge would have complained, "They've even brought the Reincarnation Watch! This God Space is really dedicated..."

"How did you get here?" the heavily armored knight asked. It was hard to believe that a woman's voice came from inside this thing that was dressed like a metal can.

She then quickly added, "It's something I inherited from my ancestors."

"I...I suddenly saw a flyer for 'Recruiting Guys'..." The newsboy seemed to be the most impatient, blurting it out.

Li Ge immediately noted down this information.

"Just like you, intelligence passed down from my ancestors," the man in black said in a very androgynous voice, making it impossible to tell whether he was male or female.

"My parents gave it to me," Li Ge simply said. The clown mask was a keepsake from his parents, and he was able to get here thanks to it. It seemed that the female knight and the man in black robes had basic information about this place, while he and the newsboy knew nothing.

His mind raced through the current situation; the mission was for him and his men to survive here for 72 hours or find the source of the contamination.

If a source of pollution is found, then there must be some unknown threat here.

Li Ge immediately looked at the watch that had suddenly appeared on his hand. It was a touchscreen watch, and even had a sci-fi feel to it. After Li Ge manipulated it, he saw the most important line of indicators.

Current pollution level: 2%

Sure enough, this damn mission won't let me get away with it so easily. The pollution value setting is probably meant to restrict their mechanism. So it seems they can't eat or drink, otherwise the pollution value might skyrocket.

What if there are strange monsters here?

Such a thought popped into Li Ge's mind for a moment, but he quickly changed his mind. The missions in the Main God Space wouldn't be so insane. After all, they were all newcomers and there were no veterans yet. Their birthplace should be a safe zone.

As he was pondering, he saw a strange, twisted lantern-carrying monster in the distance.

There were no bone fragments at the cut on his neck, only a ring of slowly wriggling flesh, which had congealed into a dark red color under his blood-soaked uniform, and seemed to peel off like rust with every step he took.

And in its hands, its left hand held a dark blue lamp, while its right hand held a shovel that seemed to be fused with its flesh and blood.
