Chapter 95: Killing Harris
Chapter 95: Killing Harris
"Chen Wujun!" Harris exclaimed, his face etched with astonishment.
He never imagined that what appeared to be a routine case was actually a trap designed specifically for him.
Even less did he expect the person standing before him to be... Chen Wujun.
"Who—?" Joe's startled cry rang out from behind him, but the sound was cut short, instantly replaced by the dull thud of a blow against flesh.
Almost simultaneously, the iron door outside slammed shut with a heavy bang.
Harris had just leaped backward in that split second, but the door was already sealed, plunging the area behind him into darkness.
Then came the gurgling sound of flowing liquid.
A pungent scent of gasoline hit Harris's nose.
Someone outside was pouring gasoline through the gaps in the iron door, letting it cascade down the stairs.
A single spark would turn this narrow stairwell into a furnace.Harris made a quick calculation. He had noted the iron door upon entering. Given a little time, he could batter his way out.
But clearly, his opponent would grant him no such luxury.
Moreover, there was at least one expert outside—someone capable of subduing Joe in an instant, leaving him no time to fire his gun or sound more than half an alarm.
It had to be known that Joe's Enhancement Reconstruction exceeded 42%.
Harris took a deep breath and descended the stairs one step at a time, his gaze fixed tightly on Chen Wujun ahead. He noticed a shield now in Chen Wujun's hand, covering half his body.
That shield had been hanging on a pillar earlier. He had been so shocked to see Chen Wujun that he hadn't noticed it.
"Now there is only one path," Chen Wujun tilted his head, grinning.
"Throw away your gun. I'll throw away my shield. Let's have a contest between men. Either I beat you to death, or you beat me to death!"
"Why?" Harris was full of doubts.
Although he had caused trouble for Chen Wujun, it was only once, and merely verbal at that. He hadn't caused the man any actual loss.
There was no deep-seated hatred between them.
Yet the other party had set up such an elaborate trap just for him.
"Because you wanted to make me a dog..." Chen Wujun looked at him playfully.
"I don't want to be a dog, and I don't want you constantly coming after me..."
"Just for that?" Harris was even more astonished. If it was just for that... this kid was simply a lunatic.
He then recalled the video of Chen Wujun he had seen that day.
A teenager using such brutal methods to kill Yu Wei, then provoking so many New Arts experts from various gangs in the arena.
His evaluation at the time had been: this kid is a natural-born villain, a scoundrel!
"Just for that... because you blocked my way... beating you to death is very important to me." Chen Wujun didn't explain his need to break through to the Qi Refining realm; there was no need to mention such things.
He raised his hand and rapped on the shield, creating a heavy thud-thud sound, inviting the other to fight.
"I have another question... who is outside? Shark Jiu... or your master, Zhou Qing? Who exactly is your master, Zhou Qing?" Harris wanted to use this opportunity to gather more information.
At the same time, his gaze swept over the iron pillars, his eyelids twitching incessantly.
By the dim light, he could see a slight sheen on the tops of those pillars.
Obviously, there was something very wrong with them.
"You don't need to know that... you can look it up after you get back." Chen Wujun smiled.
Harris suddenly took a deep breath and pulled the trigger.
Bang! A gunshot rang out.
A muzzle flash illuminated the room.
Clang!
The shield in Chen Wujun's hand rang out clearly.
"Eleven rounds left... want to keep trying?" Chen Wujun grinned.
Harris ignored Chen Wujun. He had used that momentary flash to assess the situation here.
Not only were the tops of the iron pillars coated with a faint reflective layer, but the room was also surrounded by a ledge about twenty centimeters wide, which also shimmered, as did the walls.
Harris reached out and touched the edge of a dye vat next to him. His heart sank instantly; he finally knew what it was.
Oil.
The entire room was coated in a layer of oil—heavy mechanical lubricant.
Harris frowned at Chen Wujun. "This isn't fair. Didn't you want to beat me to death? We can move outside."
"If you're afraid, I can tie my hands and fight you."
"No, this is fair." Chen Wujun was unmoved.
"You are faster... but I am smarter, so it's fair."
"I'll tie my two legs and fight you," Harris retorted.
"You see, you always think you're smart... just like the last time you came looking for me..." Chen Wujun's eyes held a look of mockery.
At that moment, flames suddenly erupted on the stairs behind Harris. The gasoline ignited, the fire flowing down the steps.
Harris's heart hit rock bottom.
Facing him was a thoroughbred villain.
Harris kicked off his shoes and leaped onto the side ledges. His feet slipped instantly, and he nearly plunged into the sewage below.
Although he didn't know what was in the sewage... he definitely didn't want to fall in.
Relying on powerful muscle control, he tensed his feet, violently regained his balance, and sprinted along the ledge.
The faster the speed, the easier it was to maintain balance.
Twenty meters was a mere instant for him. He reached Chen Wujun's flank and fired a shot at the boy's head.
Bang!
Clang!
Chen Wujun tucked his body, and a bullet hole appeared on the upper rim of the shield.
This was exactly what Harris wanted. He stomped violently, but not only was the ledge slippery, even the walls were coated in mechanical lubricant. He nearly gathered momentum to fall into the sewage again, but he fiercely twisted his body, hurling himself toward Chen Wujun.
He didn't intend to knock Chen Wujun off, but to force him to vacate his position.
Just as he expected, Chen Wujun moved his feet, landing on another iron pillar.
To him, the grease-covered iron pillars were no different from flat ground.
Moreover, as he moved, he suddenly swung the shield toward the gun in Harris's hand, while simultaneously, a cold light sliced toward Harris's feet.
Chen Wujun had known he wouldn't give up the gun so easily, so he held not just a shield, but a blade as well.
Harris felt like cursing. In a flash, he retracted his feet violently, then stomped down flat onto the blade's spine.
In that split second, Harris's reaction of retracting and stomping was almost too fast to follow.
However, Chen Wujun rolled his wrist, the blade curling upward to slice at the soles of Harris's feet.
In this environment, attack positions were fixed. Chen Wujun had simulated this in his mind countless times.
No matter how fast Harris moved, he could react.
Harris punched the shield, using the recoil to leap backward. His feet landed on an iron pillar and slipped instantly; his entire body began to fall toward the sewage pool below.
With quick eyes and hands, he grabbed the edge of the pillar. The surface was slick with grease, and the veins on the back of his hand bulged with strain.
Sensing the pillar wobbling, he raised his other hand and fired two shots at Chen Wujun, then curled his body and leaped, returning to the pillar's top.
After taking the punch on his shield, Chen Wujun immediately shifted across three pillars to dissipate the force. After blocking the two shots, he circled back to the final iron pillar, chopping his blade down over the shield's edge toward Harris's head.
Yet the cut only went halfway before Chen Wujun retracted his hand.
The strike was a feint, intended to make Harris fire his last shot.
However, the muzzle of Harris's gun wavered toward Chen Wujun's arm and head; he didn't fall for it.
By this time, the distant flames had ignited the lubricant on the dye vat ledge at the other end of the stairs. The fire burned slowly along both sides, resembling two slithering fire snakes.
Pitch-black smoke rolled toward them.
Both of them could smell the acrid, toxic fumes.
Harris was anxious; this kid was truly insane.
If this continued, they would be surrounded by fire and choked to death by the smoke before they even burned.
"Didn't you say we should both put down our weapons?" Harris hopped back one pillar and spoke.
The opponent had a turtle shell and a blade, while his gun had only one bullet left. It was impossible to fight.
When the Special Task Department went on missions, they carried twelve rounds, but he... had only brought six.
So he planned for both of them to discard their weapons and shield, then fight hand-to-hand.
As long as the opponent lost the shield and weapon, his own strength was far superior. Furthermore, in a grappling match, he would have leverage points.
"Fine. Throw down the gun first. If I wanted to burn you to death, I wouldn't be waiting here for you," Chen Wujun said from behind his shield.
Harris tossed the gun directly into the water.
Ding!
The gun bounced.
Harris's eyelid twitched. Sure enough, there was something under the water.
Chen Wujun also tossed his shield and knife far away.
He reached out and tore open his shirt, revealing a torso of incredibly thick, powerful muscle. He took a sharp breath, and his entire body seemed to swell in size.
"No wonder you have such guts. So it's Horizontal Training Kung Fu." Harris's face was grim.
He was experienced and knowledgeable.
It wasn't as if he hadn't seen masters of Horizontal Training Kung Fu before.
And Chen Wujun's Horizontal Training was far from perfection.
Harris leaped, pouncing toward Chen Wujun. His ten fingers, bent like curved steel hooks, clawed at Chen Wujun's head.
Chen Wujun pivoted, switching to another iron pillar as if walking on flat ground.
The moment Harris landed, he felt his feet slip. Simultaneously, Chen Wujun suddenly stepped in, stomping toward the bridge of Harris's foot, his hands piercing forward continuously like dual blades stabbing at Harris's neck.
Harris couldn't generate power in that position. He bent at the waist, slapped Chen Wujun above the knee, and leaped backward again.
Yet the moment he landed, he slipped again. Before he could steady himself, Chen Wujun was already upon him, his form extending, arms lashing out like steel whips.
Harris was forced to retreat to another iron pillar, this time grabbing it with both hands and one foot.
The instant Chen Wujun followed up, his arm thrust toward Harris's chest like a Great Spear.
Harris seized the opportunity, his hands suddenly clamping onto Chen Wujun's arm. However, Chen Wujun's skin was as hard as metal, and his arm was slick with lubricant. Harris's grip faltered immediately, his ten fingers sliding from Chen Wujun's elbow all the way to the shoulder.
Harris cursed inwardly, immediately wrapping his arms around Chen Wujun's limb like a giant python, veins bulging wildly.
Meanwhile, Chen Wujun's fist smashed directly into his chest.
Harris felt agonizing pain in his chest as his body was flung backward.
But with his arms still wrapped around Chen Wujun's arm like a python, he dragged Chen Wujun forward across two iron pillars. Harris yanked violently, using the leverage to spin in mid-air and deliver a horizontal whip kick to Chen Wujun's neck.
The momentum was ferocious, the wind pressure even cutting through the nearby flames.
His other leg followed closely from below.
This whip kick was merely the setup for a scissor-leg takedown intended to clamp around Chen Wujun's neck and snap it instantly.
But the moment Harris exerted force, Chen Wujun heard the shift in tension and knew exactly where his center of gravity lay.
He slammed his body backward into an 'Iron Bridge' stance. Simultaneously, one of his legs shot up like a striking viper, smashing into Harris's head.
Harris tumbled away, hugging an iron pillar, stars dancing in his vision.
Even with Enhancement Reconstruction exceeding 80%, and even though Chen Wujun couldn't put his full weight behind the kick, the blow still left him groggy.
As for Chen Wujun, having thrown that kick, he could no longer maintain his balance and toppled backward.
But he had already calculated his positioning; directly beneath him was an iron pillar.
His back slammed into the pillar. He twisted halfway, his fingers gripping the edge of the pillar from behind his shoulders like steel clamps. Flipping his body in mid-air, he hung from the pillar like an ape in a tree, then hauled himself up with a burst of strength from his fingers.
Without pausing for even a fraction of a second, Chen Wujun rose and sprinted across several iron pillars, launching a kick at Harris, who was still clinging to his post.
At that moment, a fierce light erupted in Harris's eyes. Exploding with power from his arms and legs, he vaulted over Chen Wujun's head. Clasping his hands together, he hammered them down toward Chen Wujun's skull. The force was tremendous, like a pile driver crashing down.
Under the force of his leap, the iron pillar he had been hugging flipped directly into the water.
He had realized earlier that these iron pillars were mounted on base plates; with enough force, they would tip over.
Chen Wujun's center of gravity was forward; he couldn't possibly turn back. With Harris directly above him, there was absolutely no way to dodge.
However, Chen Wujun suddenly dropped his body as low as possible. Explosive power burst from his legs, and he kicked the iron pillar beneath him away.
Borrowing the reaction force, he kicked off the toppling pillar and shot desperately forward.
"It's all over..." Seeing the iron pillar kicked away beneath him, Harris's heart sank into the abyss.
He had nowhere to leverage force. He could only extend his arms downward.
Squelch!
Several steel spikes, twenty centimeters long, pierced through Harris's palms and drove straight into his arms.
"Urgh—!" Harris couldn't suppress a miserable groan as his strength instantly drained away. He finally knew what was under the water.
The bottom was filled with these things!
A dense forest of twenty-centimeter steel spikes!
By now, Chen Wujun had expertly skipped across a circle of iron pillars to arrive behind Harris again. He leaped up, positioning himself directly above Harris.
With savage violence, he stomped down on the crotch of Harris, who was struggling to maintain balance with one hand planted.
Splash!
Harris was stomped upside down into the sewage.
Steel spikes pierced his skull.
His groin area exploded into a mess of red and white.
Chen Wujun leaped to a nearby iron pillar. A breath rushed up his throat and burst forth in a roar like a tiger.
