Madman!

Chapter 128: Securing the Windfall

Chapter 128: Securing the Windfall

"Thirty-five million. I've gathered enough money. You must keep your word!" Nguyen Minh Kim leaned against the headboard, looking at Chen Wujun with a gaze full of apprehension and hope.

The leader of the Pingchuan Gang looked extremely haggard at this moment.

These past few days had been pure torture for him.

"Congratulations, you've successfully bought your life. I've taken care of those two guys for you," Chen Wujun said with a smile.

"Although the Pingchuan Gang has lost a few leaders, it's just growing pains. Those people were turncoats anyway. If anything, I helped you clean up the unstable elements. As long as you're still here, you'll earn this money back eventually."

"We value our reputation! By tomorrow morning, you will be free."

Chen Wujun tilted his head, signaling Curry to keep a close watch on Nguyen Minh Kim's men.

Seeing Chen Wujun's attitude, Nguyen Minh Kim finally let out a sigh of relief, feeling as if he had come back to life.

He had truly managed to save his own skin this time.

However, he couldn't completely relax yet; he would only be truly at ease once Chen Wujun and his crew left tomorrow.Chen Wujun left the room and went to the small living room nearby, where a row of suitcases and travel bags were lined up on the floor.

Chen Wujun opened them one by one. Inside, they were all stuffed with stacks of cash.

A single suitcase held about 1.6 million, while a travel bag contained 1.4 million.

Chen Wujun dumped the money from several suitcases onto the floor, piling it into a mound. The visual impact of so much cash was indescribable, sending a wave of excitement through his entire body.

He could finally attempt something he had dreamed of doing since childhood.

Lying on a pile of cash.

A man does not get rich without a windfall, just as a horse does not fatten without night grass.

Relying solely on the machine room and gambling stalls, when would he ever earn this much?

Standing to the side, Curry and Li Wei were also shaken by the sight of so much cash, unable to hide the envy in their eyes.

It took a long time for him to suppress the excitement in his heart. He turned to Curry and said:

"Pack the money up. Divide it into two shares."

He would give half of this money to Shark Jiu and keep the other half for himself.

Then, Chen Wujun poured a bag of money onto the coffee table and called over Curry, Li Wei, Fa Zai, and his other subordinates.

"This is for you! Curry takes 400,000, Li Wei and Fa Zai each take 200,000, and the rest split the remainder."

Chen Wujun had understood early on that being a boss wasn't about looking the part, but doing what a boss was supposed to do.

You had to know how to distribute money to your subordinates.

Otherwise, why would anyone risk their life for you?

"There will be other rewards when we get back!"

"Thank you, Brother Jun!" Joy appeared on everyone's faces, with Li Wei's voice being the loudest.

Nothing moved hearts more effectively than money, especially since this was no small sum for any of them.

Chen Wujun glanced at the boxes filled with money one last time, then got up and went upstairs to knock on Shark Jiu's door.

"Senior Sister, that guy has the money ready. A total of 35 million. I saved half for you," Chen Wujun said with a grin.

He hadn't discussed this with Shark Jiu beforehand.

Shark Jiu looked him up and down for a moment, then revealed a faint smile.

"Not bad. You're even learning to bribe me now!"

17.5 million. Although it wasn't a small amount, she didn't care too much about the money itself.

But she was very pleased with Chen Wujun's thoughtfulness.

"After all, Senior Sister has always been helping me! Of course I have to think of you when something good happens," Chen Wujun chuckled.

"Have you thought about how to bring this money back?" Shark Jiu asked with interest as she walked into her room.

35 million in cash couldn't possibly be taken on a plane.

"Senior Sister, please arrange a speedboat. I'll take the boat back," Chen Wujun said.

West Embankment had various underground banks that could send money to North Port, but the fees were high, at least 5-6%.

Chen Wujun preferred to endure a little hardship himself.

After all, the boat ride was only thirty hours. Soaking up the sun on the deck wasn't a bad idea.

"Alright." Shark Jiu nodded, then added:

"This is also why I didn't stop you from collaborating with the Lin Group before."

"If you cooperate with them, and something like this happens again, you can have them arrange it for you. Not only can they deliver it, but they can also launder it for you. For big capital like that, moving tens of millions under the guise of investment is very easy."

Chen Wujun nodded. To the capitalists, they were security muscle; to them, capital was a useful tool.

One side handled the legitimate surface, while the other handled the gray areas.

As for anything else, it depended on which side was stronger.

This trip had broadened his horizons significantly, exposing him to many things he could never have understood while staying in the Walled City.

In the Walled City, the sky was always obscured by chaotic power lines and pipes, and the ground was always filthy with sewage. Everything there was raw and naked.

"Senior Sister, what did Elephant, Tall Guy, and Guan Laosan say?" Chen Wujun asked about another matter.

"I've contacted them. Elephant will escort Master Xin's body back with me tomorrow. Given Master Xin's prestige in the Walled City over so many years, we must give him a grand funeral."

"Tall Guy was Master Xin's confidant, but he knows how to choose."

"As for Guan Laosan, he's a fence-sitter. Now that Master Xin is dead, he won't make any rash moves."

Shark Jiu explained simply.

...

Early the next morning, Chen Wujun took his men to the pier to catch the boat back to North Port.

Meanwhile, at the West Embankment Federal Police Station, Cun Bao and his subordinates were bailed out.

Cun Bao walked out of the police station. The sunlight was a bit harsh, forcing him to raise his arm to shield his eyes. He scanned his surroundings and immediately spotted Shark Jiu leaning against the hood of a car.

"Sister Shark Jiu!" Cun Bao walked over quickly.

"What do we do now?"

"It's over. We'll fly back in a bit," Shark Jiu said with a smile.

"Where's Ah Jun?" Cun Bao looked around but didn't see Chen Wujun.

"He has other business. He's escorting a shipment back," Shark Jiu explained briefly.

"Get in the car. We're going to claim Master Xin's body first."

"Master Xin!" A look of shock appeared on Cun Bao's face. He knew a little about what had happened, but not the full picture.

He had been stuck in the police station for two days to find that Master Xin was dead.

"Some things happened over the last couple of days. Master Xin came to West Embankment, but he was assassinated shortly after leaving the airport. We're taking his body back," Shark Jiu said lightly.

After getting into the car, Cun Bao's heart was still pounding like a stormy sea.

Master Xin was actually dead.

The Master Xin who had controlled the Walled City for decades was dead!

He then realized another issue: if Master Xin was dead, who would be the Dragon Head?

Moments later, Shark Jiu's convoy arrived at the hospital and met up with Elephant.

The casket was already prepared.

Shark Jiu watched as Master Xin's body was placed into the casket. The old fellow's era had finally passed.

That evening, the group arrived in North Port by plane.

Guan Laosan and Tall Guy were waiting at the airport with their men.

No one asked what had happened.

Elephant, Tall Guy, and Guan Laosan all knew the score, especially Tall Guy, who acted as if nothing had happened.

The minions below them could only guess in their hearts, waiting for the news to be announced.

As the body was transported back to the Walled City, the news of Master Xin's death began to spread, causing a massive stir like a single stone raising a thousand waves.

...

Inside a villa, Ma Dong answered a call from Ghost Dragon:

"Boss, have you heard? Lin Jianxin is dead," Ghost Dragon said quickly.

"I just heard. I really didn't expect it," Ma Dong's expression held a tinge of melancholy. To think that old fellow Lin Jianxin would die so simply.

"Boss, do you know what happened?"

"There are some rumors; we'll talk later. Get ready tomorrow, we'll go together. Respect for the dead comes first. Although we fought Lin Jianxin for many years, now that he's gone, we should go offer some incense."

"Tell Fire Dragon, Wen Long, and the others not to cause trouble." Ma Dong hung up the phone and sighed.

With Lin Jianxin dead, the Walled City was likely about to undergo a drastic change.

Those subordinates of Lin Jianxin, especially Shark Jiu, had always been ambitious.

...

"Lin Jianxin is dead? How did he die?" Tan Cheng, Dragon Head of the Four Stripes, looked shocked upon receiving the news.

"It's not certain yet. We only know he died in West Embankment."

"Lin Jianxin is dead. The sky over the Walled City is about to change," Tan Cheng said after a moment of thought.

"Wait for Hetu's notification. We'll go to offer condolences tomorrow."

After hanging up, Tan Cheng pondered for a moment before picking up the phone to call others.

...

Meanwhile, Shark Jiu, Elephant, Guan Laosan, and Tall Guy sat together to deliberate.

"Set up the mourning hall outside, on the largest open ground in the southeast. It will be convenient for everyone to pay their respects!" Shark Jiu spoke calmly, her gaze sweeping over the others with a faint, menacing aura.

"I don't understand these things. You arrange it." Elephant leaned back on the sofa, a cigarette dangling from his mouth.

It was obvious that Shark Jiu was calling the shots now, and he naturally wouldn't object.

"Outside the Walled City is good. The roads inside are narrow, making it hard for outsiders to enter. Besides, with so many people gathering, the cops won't be at ease. Placing it outside is convenient for everyone, and the scale will be grander," Tall Guy chimed in.

"I have no objections either," Guan Laosan said.

"Next is the Funeral Committee. We'll lend our names, and we'll all draft some men from our subordinates... We must give Master Xin a grand funeral, a seven-day wake," Shark Jiu continued arranging.

Such funerals were usually either three days or seven days.

If it were three days, the outside world would suspect that Hetu was internally unstable.

Shark Jiu wanted to take over as Dragon Head with style and demonstrate her control over Hetu, so she had to choose the seven-day wake.

"Guan Laosan, you are responsible for notifying the various gangs."

Shark Jiu arranged everything with lightning efficiency, and everyone began to get busy.

That night, a huge open-air mourning hall was erected on the largest vacant lot southeast of the Walled City, and truckloads of funeral wreaths were delivered.

...

It wasn't until noon the next day that Chen Wujun and his men stepped onto the docks of North Port.

"Finally back! I feel like the ground is still rocking!" Chen Wujun stretched on the pier.

The most important thing was that he had safely brought back this large sum of cash.

In the distance, Ah Fei approached quickly with some men.

"Brother Jun, Sister Shark Jiu sent us to pick you up! While you were at sea, calls wouldn't go through."

"We also brought you fresh clothes; Sister Ah Yue bought them."

"Grab the stuff. Let's head back."

The group left the pier and saw a row of vehicles ahead.

Chen Wujun's Tiger Head sedan was sandwiched in the middle, looking the most imposing.

After getting in the car, Chen Wujun lit a cigarette and gazed out the window. It felt comfortable to be back in North Port; his whole body relaxed.

"Is the mourning hall ready?"

"It's right on that open ground to the southeast," Ah Fei turned his head to say.

"We worked all night last night to get it built."

"The mourning hall will stand for seven days. Sister Shark Jiu said Master Xin is to have a grand burial, a seven-day wake."

"Today is the second day."

"By the way, Brother Jun, your name is also on the Funeral Committee, right after Sister Shark Jiu, Elephant, Tall Guy, and Guan Laosan."

One had to understand that the list for the Funeral Committee carried significant meaning.

This signified Shark Jiu declaring to everyone that Chen Wujun's status in Hetu was second only to hall masters like herself, Elephant, Tall Guy, and Guan Laosan.

And Elephant and the others had not objected.
