Chapter 114: Judging Others by Oneself
Chapter 114: Judging Others by Oneself
Cun Bao's face was livid. He had been dozing off in the van, and by the time Chen Wujun shouted a warning, it was too late for him to smash the window and bail out safely.
Having suffered a major loss of face, he scrambled out the window, kicked off the frame, and launched himself directly into the crowd, instantly knocking two men flying with the force of his impact.
It was like a tiger descending upon a flock of sheep; a single punch or kick was enough to kill.
And he wasn't alone—others had also poured out of the vehicles to join the fray.
Even a New Arts Martial Artist in the Initial Construction Phase possessed the physical fitness of two ordinary men.
Moreover, they had all undergone specialized training in modern combat techniques.
The Luoyue People suddenly realized that their targets were terrifyingly ferocious New Arts Martial Artists. Their courage shattered instantly, and they turned to flee in panic.
Chen Wujun remained motionless, watching as several New Arts Martial Artists charged into the fray. A dozen Luoyue attackers fell in moments. Seeing the rest attempting to escape, he shouted an order: "Capture two alive!"
After issuing the command, he glanced behind him. A group of subordinates leaped from the other bus, similarly beating back the Luoyue attackers until they turned tail and ran.
Moments later, Li Wei and Fa Zai dragged two Luoyue captives back. The malice and cruelty in the captives' eyes had vanished, replaced entirely by terror and pleading.Thrown to the ground in front of Chen Wujun, they immediately began kowtowing and begging for mercy.
"Talk. What's going on? Who sent you?" Chen Wujun asked expressionlessly, stepping on one man's hand. With a grind of his heel, he crushed the hand bones to powder.
He sensed something was off about this group.
"Argh!" The Luoyue man screamed, clawing at the ground as he tried desperately to pull his mangled hand from under Chen Wujun's foot.
"There was a bounty... someone put out a bounty for hired blades... 1,000 just for showing up, 100,000 for killing someone... we don't know anything else..." the other Luoyue man stammered, his face pale as he continued to kowtow.
"Oh? Who offered the bounty?" Chen Wujun asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Brother Hei, it was Brother Hei..."
After a few more questions, Chen Wujun realized these people were just street thugs.
A man named Brother Hei had posted the bounty, claiming a wealthy patron was paying to chop up a group of Huayan tourists from North Port.
Just showing up earned them 1,000, and killing one person would net them 100,000.
Chen Wujun had killed his first man for only 30,000.
A 100,000 reward for a single kill was enough to make these thugs fight to the death.
"What are they playing at?" Chen Wujun frowned initially, then a thought flashed through his mind like a lightning bolt. He suddenly realized what was waiting for them.
'Damn it, we've been set up!'
He had been considering this on the boat. These local gangs weren't strong, but they were the local powers. They might collude with the local police, so caution was necessary.
Now, the moment they disembarked, the enemy had sent a swarm of thugs to attack them.
But these thugs weren't the main issue.
The main issue was the car crash and the ground littered with corpses.
The West Embankment Federal Police would definitely launch a strict investigation into this.
In fact, the police were likely already closing in.
He glanced to the sides; vast rice paddies stretched out on both sides of the highway.
Chen Wujun suddenly kicked the Luoyue man in front of him, sending him flying seven or eight meters. He then spun around and kicked the other man away.
Both men spat blood before they even hit the ground. After landing, they rolled several times and went silent.
"Check on our people and gather everyone up," Chen Wujun ordered. Turning around, he covered dozens of meters in just a few steps.
Shark Jiu was on the rear bus, legs crossed, smoking a cigarette.
She paid no attention whatsoever to the chaos outside.
"Sister Shark Jiu, these are just hired thugs. I suspect the police will be here any minute," Chen Wujun said as he approached her.
Shark Jiu smiled, a look of appreciation in her eyes. "Jun Zai, your brain works fast. It seems all that reading wasn't in vain."
Chen Wujun was indeed improving rapidly, and not just in his martial arts.
Predicting the opponent's follow-up move just from the presence of these thugs was worthy of praise.
"Since the local gangs don't want to follow the rules, we won't follow them either."
Although she didn't know if this was Master Xin's doing, she had to admit it was effective. It created significant trouble for them.
Most importantly, this was the territory of the Luoyue People.
Their group stood out conspicuously here.
"It's over ten kilometers to the city. Let's split up and make our way there," Shark Jiu said.
Chen Wujun exchanged a few more words with Shark Jiu, then turned to check on Curry and the others.
The experts were fine after the collision and rollover, but some unprepared subordinates suffered injuries. One unlucky soul had his neck snapped.
Fortunately, it wasn't one of Chen Wujun's men.
However, two of his subordinates had broken their arms.
"Take those two unlucky guys with us. We're walking to the city," Chen Wujun said expressionlessly.
After informing Cun Bao, he led his people directly into the rice paddies lining the road.
He had just entered the fields when he heard the wail of sirens in the distance.
Chen Wujun glanced back; it was exactly as he had predicted.
"See? I was right. We nearly fell into a trap," Chen Wujun sneered to Curry and the others.
When seven or eight police cars arrived at the scene, they found the ground littered with corpses, along with several vans and box trucks.
Past the bodies, they saw one bus overturned in the rice paddy and another parked on the shoulder. Both were empty.
"Sir, these people look like they were hit by vehicles; most of their bones are broken. It was New Arts experts," two constables reported after examining the bodies.
The leading Sergeant looked towards the rice paddies on both sides.
"Notify headquarters to send reinforcements."
"And notify the Special Task Department."
……
Meanwhile, at a private club in West Embankment.
"Superintendent, sir, these people are lawless villains! Their arrival in West Embankment will inevitably pose a huge threat to public security," a middle-aged man with large white patches on his face laughed, raising his wine glass.
"But I believe that under your leadership, Superintendent, they won't be able to stir up any trouble."
"By the way, I went back to my hometown a few days ago and brought some local specialties. I'll have someone bring some over to Superintendent Li shortly."
The Superintendent opposite him, surnamed Li, was in charge of the entire criminal division of West Embankment. He wore a reserved smile.
He was very satisfied with the man's tactfulness and found himself looking forward to the "local specialties."
A short while later, both parties departed.
Superintendent Li arrived at his car and found two suitcases on the ground.
He opened the car door, placed a suitcase on the seat, and popped it open. It was stuffed with cash.
A suitcase like this held exactly one million in cash.
Meanwhile, after leaving the club, the man with the white patches on his face went to a nearby tea house.
"Fat Nan, don't forget what you promised me. Otherwise, I'll let you know that I'm not so easily fooled."
"Relax. We're partners, aren't we? Besides, business is business. You saw the goods."
"Chen Long is getting too greedy; he always wants to drive down the price. That's why my boss decided to switch partners." The man sitting opposite was none other than Fat Nan, Master Xin's trusted subordinate.
Chen Long was the Dragon Head of the Xionglong Gang. The man with the white patches was Nguyen Minh Kim, nicknamed "Milk Cow," the boss of the Pingchuan Gang.
Of course, no one dared to use that nickname to his face.
Both the Northern River Sect and the Xionglong Gang were mere smokescreens set up by Master Xin. The Pingchuan Gang was his true partner in this venture.
"To a fruitful partnership!" Fat Nan said, raising his teacup.
……
At 5:00 PM, Chen Wujun arrived in the city area with Curry, Fa Zai, Li Wei, and a dozen of his men.
After calling Shark Jiu, the group waited a short while before two vans pulled up in front of Chen Wujun.
The driver immediately spotted Chen Wujun sitting by the roadside, holding a soda bottle.
"Brother Jun, get in. Sister Shark Jiu sent me to pick you up."
The vans took them to the Thu Thiem District. It was a newly developed area where many wealthy people had built luxury villas with high walls and large courtyards along the river.
As the vehicles passed, the sound of dogs barking drifted from the courtyards.
The two vans entered a courtyard, and the gates were immediately shut behind them.
Chen Wujun got out, looking around as he entered the villa's main hall, where he spotted Shark Jiu sitting on the sofa.
Chen Wujun sat down on an adjacent sofa.
"Senior Sister, where did you get this villa?"
"Borrowed it. You think I robbed it? If it were your two senior brothers, they might have done that," Shark Jiu chuckled.
"Was the trip smooth?"
"Smooth enough, though I imagine the West Embankment police will be hunting for us everywhere now," Chen Wujun said. He had originally planned to explore West Embankment, but that seemed impossible now.
"They don't matter. What matters is Master Xin!" Shark Jiu said coolly.
"We need to make a move. Contact Elephant as planned... but we need to tweak the plan."
"Li Wenlong of the Northern River Sect, known as Double Blade Long, probably has nothing to do with Master Xin. Let Elephant go cause trouble for him."
"That bunch of mixed-bloods in the Xionglong Gang likely aren't his people either."
"Master Xin is an old fox; he definitely won't keep his cards face up."
"There are two other gangs in West Embankment: the Pingchuan Gang and Nanjin. We'll hit them first. Find a way to capture their Dragon Heads. As long as we catch the one colluding with Master Xin, we can find a way to lure him out. If neither is the one... well, consider them unlucky."
They were just Luoyue People anyway; if they died, they died.
Shark Jiu had never intended to follow the script Master Xin had written.
"I'm leaving this to you," Shark Jiu said.
"Great, leave it to me!" Chen Wujun laughed, his eyes gleaming with eagerness.
A gang Dragon Head should have plenty of assets, right?
"How do you plan to do it?" Shark Jiu asked with interest.
"I'll have a nice chat with them. We'll see if their bones are harder than my hands!"
Chen Wujun didn't believe those Luoyue People were unafraid of death.
Even if a few were fearless, he didn't believe everyone was.
And even if they didn't fear death... they surely wanted to rise in the ranks, didn't they?
If the boss didn't die, how could they move up?
Judging others by his own standards, Chen Wujun felt confident he could persuade them.
After all, he hadn't been following Shark Jiu for long, and he was already figuring out how to kill off Ji Xiang, Ah Hao, and Flower Boy Rong to make room for himself.
