Chapter 193: The Internet!
Chapter 193: The Internet!
The question lingered between them, "If you could bring one thing from Earth into Terra..."
Queen Elyndra’s voice carried genuine curiosity, her green eyes fixed on Jax with quiet interest and left Jax stumped for a moment, as the Demon King didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he leaned back slightly in his chair, one hand resting loosely against the table as his gaze drifted out over the glowing valley below as he thought back at Earth and his experience in Terra.
The Faerie Realm and Terra as a whole was perfect in many ways. Self-Sustaining and overflowing with natural beauty and magic.
In terms of Natural Beauty, nothing on Earth can come close to comparing to the Faerie Realm or parts of the Demon Realm.
And yet, this world lacked something that was very abundant in his past life, connection.
After a few seconds, Jax spoke.
"The Internet."
Elyndra blinked as she heard that answer, "The... Internet?"
The word sounded foreign on her tongue, but Jax nodded, "Yeah."
She tilted her head slightly, her wings shifting faintly behind her, "And what exactly is that?"
Jax exhaled softly. Explaining the Internet to someone from a magical world...
That would be interesting.
"It’s like a system," He paused, searching for the best way to phrase it, "A global network that connects people."
Elyndra frowned slightly, "A communication spell?"
Jax shook his head, "Similar but not quite, it’s more than that."
He leaned forward slightly, his tone becoming more thoughtful, "Imagine this. You have a small crystal."
Elyndra nodded slowly, following along, "Alright..."
Jax continued, "That crystal lets you send messages instantly to anyone, anywhere in the world."
Her eyes widened slightly as she heard that, "Across any distance?"
"Any distance, and no delay," Jax said with a faint smirk.
She leaned forward, "That alone would be revolutionary."
Jax chuckled as he heard that, "That’s just the beginning."
Elyndra blinked in shock, "There’s more?"
Jax nodded, "A lot more."
He gestured lightly with his hand, "Now imagine that same crystal can show you information."
"Any information, from books, to images from the past and present, videos and more," Jax explained.
Elyndra frowned slightly again, "Videos?"
"Like recordings? Capturing moving moments," Jax said.
"Ohhh, that’s the word you all use for it," Elyndra said with a nod, "But... stored?"
"Exactly." He tapped the table lightly, "Not temporary, they’re permanent and can be watched whenever you want,"
Elyndra’s expression shifted from curiosity to astonishment.
"That would require an enormous amount of magical storage."
Jax shook his head, "No magic."
She froze, "...What?"
"Technology." Jax continued, " Technological machines store everything. Billions of pieces of information."
Her wings stilled completely, "That’s..."
She searched for the right word, "Impossible."
Jax grinned, "On Earth, it’s normal."
Elyndra stared at him for a moment.
Then slowly leaned back in her chair.
"Continue."
Jax nodded, "The Internet connects all of these systems together. So people can share information instantly.Across the entire world."
He paused briefly, "News, entertainment, education, communication, everything,"
Elyndra’s lips parted slightly, "You’re telling me..."
She spoke slowly.
"That every person has access to nearly all knowledge... at any time?"
Jax shrugged, "More or less."
Her eyes widened further, "That would change everything."
Jax nodded.
"It did."
She leaned forward again, clearly fascinated now.
"And communication?"
Jax smiled slightly, "You can talk to anyone you know and random people, see them, hear them, even if they’re on the other side of the world. No magic required,"
Elyndra placed her cup down slowly, "That sounds like advanced telepathy."
"Better in some ways," Jax replied, "No mana cost or training required. Anyone can use it,"
The Faerie Queen fell silent, but her mind was already racing.
Jax could practically see the implications forming behind her eyes. From trade, to diplomacy and education.
Everything across Terra would evolve if the Internet was brought over.
After a moment, she spoke again, "...How many people used this ’Internet’?"
Jax gave a small grin.
"Almost everyone."
Elyndra inhaled slowly.
"That level of connection..."
She shook her head slightly in disbelief.
"Even the Faeries have nothing comparable."
Jax chuckled.
"Different worlds."
She looked at him again, her curiosity now mixed with something deeper.
"If something like this could exist in Terra..."
She murmured.
"Kingdoms would transform overnight."
Jax nodded.
"They would."
She stood slowly from her seat, walking a few steps toward the balcony.
Her wings spread slightly as she looked out over her realm.
"Information is power."
She said softly.
"But connection..."
She turned her head slightly.
"Connection is something greater."
Jax watched her quietly.
Elyndra continued.
"With something like this..."
She gestured toward the vast forests below.
"The Faerie Realm could communicate instantly with every trade partner."
"Coordinate agriculture across entire regions."
"Share knowledge with allied nations."
She turned fully toward him now.
"And your Demon Kingdom..."
Her eyes gleamed.
"Would become unstoppable."
Jax smirked slightly.
"That’s one way to put it."
She laughed softly.
"You truly are dangerous, Demon King."
Jax shrugged.
"I try."
Elyndra walked back toward the table slowly, her expression thoughtful.
"Is it possible?"
Jax tilted his head.
"To recreate it here?"
"Yes."
He thought for a moment.
Then nodded slightly.
"Eventually."
Her eyes lit up.
"Truly?"
"It won’t be easy," Jax admitted.
"You’d need infrastructure."
"Devices."
"Energy systems."
"Knowledge transfer."
He tapped his temple lightly.
"But the concept?"
"Definitely possible."
Elyndra smiled.
A genuine, excited smile.
"Then I would very much like to see that future."
She sat back down.
"Imagine a world where knowledge flows as freely as mana."
Jax chuckled.
"You’d like Earth."
She tilted her head.
"I think I would."
There was a brief moment of comfortable silence between them.
Then Elyndra spoke again, more softly this time.
"You don’t seem... homesick."
Jax paused.
That was true.
He thought about it for a moment.
Then shook his head slightly.
"Not really."
She studied him.
"Why?"
Jax leaned back in his chair, his golden eyes drifting toward the sky.
"Because Terra is more interesting."
Elyndra blinked.
"More interesting?"
Jax smirked.
"Magic."
"Power."
"New races."
"New worlds."
He looked back at her.
"And I get to shape it."
The Faerie Queen watched him carefully.
Then smiled.
"I see."
There was a quiet understanding in her gaze now.
"You’re not someone who looks backward."
Jax shrugged.
"No point."
Elyndra nodded slowly.
"Then perhaps..."
She lifted her cup again.
"This world is fortunate to have you."
Jax chuckled lightly.
"That remains to be seen."
Elyndra smiled over the rim of her cup.
"Oh, I think it already is."
