Hearing his words, Gu Liancheng’s expression quickly returned to calm, "In that case, we might see each other often in the future."
She offered a charming smile, proactively extending her wine glass to clink with Qin Jin’s, then slightly tilted her head back, taking a delicate sip of red wine.
"I’ll treat you to a meal when I get the chance," Gu Liancheng suddenly said.
At those words, Qin Jin lifted the corners of his lips indifferently, "When has it ever been the woman’s turn to treat to a meal? When you’re free, I’ll be the one to invite you."
"Sure," Gu Liancheng readily agreed, "I’ll call you after I finish the new season’s design drafts."
When Shen Cheng walked by, she happened to overhear their conversation.
It was also because of this conversation that she guessed Qin Jin and Gu Liancheng knew each other from before, with a rather deep relationship.
"Remember to count me in when you eat."
Standing behind the two of them, Shen Cheng spoke indifferently, the corners of her mouth curved in a subtle smile that left one guessing whether her mood was good or bad.
Upon hearing her voice, Gu Liancheng turned around, his eyes smiling more deeply when he saw her, "Counting you in, no problem."
After saying that, he glanced at Qin Jin, "Jin, wouldn’t you agree?"
Qin Jin raised his sensuous thin lips, first uttering an affirmative "yes," then greeted Shen Cheng, "Sister-in-law."
Shen Cheng hummed in acknowledgment, her gaze swept over to a few dining tables nearby, not spotting Ye Zi, and then she turned back to ask Qin Jin, "Where’s your woman?"
She avoided mentioning Ye Zi’s name, instead using the words "your woman," with a simple aim - making it clear to Gu Liancheng who she was.
Although she still didn’t know the exact nature of the relationship between Gu Liancheng and Qin Jin, the level of their amicable interaction reminded her to be cautious.
"Over there."
Qin Jin gestured in a certain direction not far away, and Shen Cheng followed his gaze, indeed spotting Ye Zi.
However, her mood seemed a bit down.
She was hunched over, stabbing at the steak on her plate with her knife and fork.
Perhaps tiring of the stabbing, she paused, lifted the wine glass to her lips.
Hesitating a long while with the glass to her mouth, she eventually placed the glass back down and continued with her prior action, relentlessly poking the steak on her plate.
"Take your time chatting."
After a glance at Qin Jin and Gu Liancheng, Shen Cheng politely left the words behind and turned away.
Seeing her walk toward Ye Zi, Qin Jin’s gaze returned, and after downing the wine in his glass in one go and setting down the glass, he said to Gu Liancheng, "Excuse me for a moment."
Gu Liancheng pursed his lips into a smile, not speaking but raising his wine glass to indicate he didn’t mind.
Qin Jin put his hands in his pocket, turned, and strode away with steady steps.
"It’s all poked into a sieve."
The sudden voice by her ear made Ye Zi jump.
"Ah?"
Caught off guard, she exclaimed, then her hand shook, causing the knife and fork to fall onto the plate with a clink.
Shen Cheng pulled out a chair to sit, looking at Ye Zi beside her and arching an eyebrow, "What’s wrong with you?"
"Ah, well, beauty..." Ye Zi stammered for a bit before finally squeezing out, "I’m fine!"
Fine?
It was obvious that something was up.
Shen Cheng’s brows tightened as she spoke flatly, "You look all out of sorts, yet you say you’re fine?"
"I..."
Before Ye Zi could finish her sentence, a pair of strong hands reached from behind and encircled her neck.
