Chapter 1213 - 1211: Shi Mei vs. Shi Keke (58)

"That’s the best."

Shi Keke said, taking off the shoe stuck in the sewer cover, intending to pull out the stuck heel and put the shoe back on, but as soon as she tried, the heel snapped with a "click."

After burying herself in a pit, she now experienced what it meant for troubles to come one after another.

She raised her eyebrow, casually tossed the ruined shoe aside, and took off the other shoe as well, standing barefoot.

"Let’s go."

Shi Keke was very free-spirited, completely at ease even without shoes on.

She didn’t have the temper of a young lady, nor the refinement expected of a well-bred girl.

Shi Mei looked at her barefoot with furrowed brows, her skin fair and delicate.

He suddenly recalled a time long ago when she insisted he take her to the countryside to fish.

Back then, she was twelve, just starting seventh grade, and much more childish compared to her peers.

At first, he refused, because such silly games had never existed in his world, but he couldn’t resist her and eventually agreed.

Having been able to swim since age three but pretending she couldn’t, she acted terrified when she saw the stream and clung to him like a koala, wanting him to carry her into the water to fish.

She was a spoiled little princess; when he caught fish, she would excitedly cheer, "Brother, you’re amazing!" If he missed, she’d pout and complain, "Brother, you’re not awesome at all."

He indulged her, let her have her way, doing whatever she said; she complained that the water was shallow and the fish were sparse, so he carried her to the deeper waters.

In the deep water, she deliberately let go and fell in, holding her breath underwater and not coming up, worrying him greatly.

Eventually, he dove in and pulled out his little sister who was sitting on a rock underwater, holding her breath.

After getting ashore, he ignored her, and she clung to him, rolling onto the ground together, trying to mess with him with her little feet, even attempting to reach his face.

At the time, he grabbed her feet and seriously warned her, "If she ever dares to show her feet in front of him again, he won’t be kind to her."

She remembered his words, and for more than a decade afterwards, she never again acted wild in front of him. Then later, when he left, she had no chance to show her feet to him.

Shi Mei slowly lifted his sword-shaped eyebrows, his originally sullen gaze warming up as it was tinged with nostalgia, full of tenderness.

He walked over to Shi Keke and crouched before her.

"Get on."

His voice was still deep, but much softer compared to before.

"What?"

Shi Keke obviously understood what he meant but couldn’t help asking another question.

"I’ll carry you." he said.

No impatience, no boredom, as if his patience was inexhaustible.

At this moment, Shi Keke’s heart was warm; she felt more happy and fulfilled than anytime in the past twenty-plus years.

It seemed as though nothing else mattered, not money, fame, status, glory, or any other interests, none of them compared to this seemingly simple, yet deeply poignant relationship.

She felt lucky, lucky to have been sent away by her biological parents, lucky to have been adopted by the Shi Family, lucky to have him by her side, and lucky to be the person cherished in his heart.
