Chapter 1108 - 1116: Just a Scratch
Qi Jingren eventually moved to Mr. Qin’s house. On the day of the move, Su Jiuyi got up early, called Shi Aoju to report that she was going over to help, and then headed to Mr. Qin’s place.
Upon arrival, she discovered that Song Zhike and Su Manning were also there. They had probably arrived not long ago and were helping to tidy Qi Jingren’s room. Song Zhike and Qin Shaobai were adjusting the bed’s position while Su Manning was sorting Qi Jingren’s clothes.
"Sister is here too."
As Su Jiuyi reached the doorway, Su Manning noticed her. After greeting her, Su Manning put down the clothes she was holding, stood up, and pulled Su Jiuyi aside outside the room. After confirming no one followed, she whispered, "Dad has been sending people to find you, saying if there’s no news from you anymore, he will report it to the police. Afraid things would escalate, I told him about your situation."
"Alright, it’s fine," Su Jiuyi replied, unconcerned whether Su Manning disclosed this to others or not because she felt that her work at the Shi Family as a maid wasn’t actually a secret. Knowing sooner or later wouldn’t make a difference.
"Sister won’t blame me, right?" Su Manning was always very cautious in everything she did, not only when facing Su Jiuyi but even in her conversations with her parents at home, she was always very measured.
In Su Jiuyi’s memory, Su Manning rarely joked. She was like a lily—not very colorful but pure and beautiful, yet too fragile to withstand the harsh elements.
"I won’t," Su Jiuyi said. "I’m planning to go home this afternoon, let’s go together."
Su Manning had thought Su Jiuyi would blame her, so she was nervous on the way there, her palms were sweaty. Song Zhike even suggested taking her to the hospital, but she made excuses to turn down the offer.
"Okay," Su Manning nodded, still looking obedient and sensible.
"Let’s go help out."
Qin Shaobai and Song Zhike were in charge of the heavy work, while Qi Jingren and Su Manning took care of the lighter tasks. As for Su Jiuyi, she had no duties today, though she did make several attempts to help. However, Qi Jingren would consistently use "you’re the injured one" as a reason to send her off to rest.
Even though Su Jiuyi resisted several times, she ultimately failed, as Qi Jingren would always appear just in time to halt whatever she tried to do.
With no other choice, Su Jiuyi eventually gave up and decided to help by serving tea and water to everyone, including checking up on them. If anyone felt hot, she’d kindly adjust the air conditioning to a comfortable temperature.
"Hey, great job," Qi Jingren praised, "this is exactly what a recovering person should be doing."
Injured person? Su Manning had heard Qi Jingren use those words earlier and wanted to ask about it but felt it might be inappropriate, so she held back until now.
She thought it over and decided to ask. She first looked at Qi Jingren, then turned her gaze to Su Jiuyi, hesitated for a few seconds, and finally asked, "Sister, are you hurt?"
"Just a minor injury," Su Jiuyi answered, "didn’t believe I’d been in a car accident before, injured my ribs."
"What? Injured your ribs?" Su Manning was shocked and immediately asked, "How are you now? Have you healed? Is there any lasting damage?"
