Chapter 638 - 639: The Moon and People are Rounder
Chapter 638 - 639: The Moon and People are Rounder
The driver’s words made Dan Lingling beam with joy. That’s right, there is only one President in the Empire, and the President has only one daughter, which was her. How precious she was! Besides, over the past few years, she had always been committed to learning and enriching herself. Leaving aside her father, she was an outstanding woman in her own right.
Even though Di Mingzhe was more remarkable, considering her father’s status, there was no one within the empire that could more perfectly match him than her!
After sending away Dan Lingling, Di Mingzhe returned to the Vice Presidential Residence. He could not immediately head upstairs, unable to face her.
He beckoned the butler over and asked, "Has Miss Fourth already gone to sleep?"
"I’m not sure," the butler bowed respectfully, "We prepared some light porridge for Miss Fourth just now and took it to her. She asked us to put it aside and seemed not to eat. She also asked not to be disturbed, so..."
"Alright, I get it." Di Mingzhe said with a slight shadow in his eyes, "You may leave."
"Yes sir," the butler respectfully nodded and began to step back, but halfway through, Di Mingzhe suddenly called him back.
"Do you need anything else, Sir?" asked the butler.
"Do you have cigarettes?" Di Mingzhe looked at the butler.
The butler was startled and slightly confused, but did not dare to ask questions. He quickly nodded, "Yes, we have cigarettes for entertaining guests in the house."
"Bring me a pack." Di Mingzhe said without any expression.
"Yes sir." The butler nodded, though he felt a bit puzzled. He seemed to recall that Di Mingzhe never smoked.
But no matter how confused he was, he dared not ask questions. So he rushed to the small storeroom in the main hall, where all the hospitality supplies were kept.
Taking a pack of cigarettes designated for congress members, the butler came forward and respectfully handed the cigarettes to Di Mingzhe, "Here you are, sir."
Di Mingzhe took the cigarettes and then asked, "And the lighter?"
"Oh, yes, the lighter!" the butler slapped his forehead, "Please wait a moment, I’ll fetch it immediately!"
He had forgotten that since Di Mingzhe didn’t smoke, he certainly wouldn’t carry a lighter.
As soon as the butler fetched him a lighter, Di Mingzhe allowed him to leave.
Not wanting to stay there, he went to the other house, and with some unfamiliarity, he lit up a cigarette, which made him cough incessantly.
In that house, he lingered on the bed she once slept on, the chair she sat on, and in front of the computer she used.
Initially, he didn’t smoke, but somehow, as he continued, he felt as if he had learnt how to do so.
It seemed that one could learn to smoke without a teacher.
He didn’t know how long he smoked, until there were only a few lonely cigarettes left in the pack.
He didn’t open the windows. Instead, he curled up on the sofa she had once sat on and imagined the way she lived in this room.
Eventually, the room could no longer accommodate all that smoke. The smoke pervaded the entire room, even making breathing somewhat difficult.
Notwithstanding the time, Di Mingzhe didn’t check. After snuffing out the cigarette, he walked out of the room.
The sky was filled with stars, and the moon hung high. It appeared to be a full moon tonight.
A saying came to mind, "The moon is full, and so is the person."
But to him, this saying was nothing less than a mockery.
But where would he go after leaving the room?
It seemed there was nowhere to go.
He had only one room, that room. Perhaps, he could only sleep in the other house tonight.
