Chapter 356 - 357: Can you wait for me to dry my clothes and take me home?

Chapter 356 - 357: Can you wait for me to dry my clothes and take me home?

"Okay!" The old man nodded, seeming to have made up his mind. After a moment of consideration, he added, "Be gentle with her. She’s a delicate girl, so be kind and avoid hurting her."

"Well, you seem quite concerned all of a sudden." The old woman glared at the old man in annoyance, her tone sarcastic.

"What are you talking about?" The old man frowned in displeasure, his face wrinkling up even more. "She’s soon to be our daughter-in-law. Stop your nagging. Do you want a daughter-in-law? Do you want to see your grandchildren or not?"

The old woman shot the old man a look, "Alright, you go find our son. I’m going to find some clothes for the girl."

The old man nodded and left, but not before reminding repeatedly that they should not be harsh to Gu Qibao, and should prevent her from running away.

The old woman, having agreed, went to find clean clothes.

Following behind the boy, Gu Qibao cautiously asked, "Is that old woman your mother? Also, where is this place? I’m from Niujia Village, could you return me there later on? I assure you, since you saved my life, I’ll give you a lot of money. Then, you won’t have to stay in this broken-down place."

The boy didn’t respond, but the old woman, who had just stepped back into the room, heard her and looked pleased. She glanced at the coarse cloth clothes in her hands before turning around to look for better ones.

With the boy’s continuing silence, Gu Qibao frowned anxiously. Could this boy really be mute?

She hastened to catch the boy’s attention, "Can you understand me?" she asked.

The boy gave a slight nod, still silent. He then reached under the pillow on the bed and took out something.

Gu Qibao saw that it was a lighter. Unclear about the boy’s intentions, she followed him when he made a gesture for her to do so.

With no other choice, Gu Qibao followed him and asked again, "Ergouzi, are you unable to speak?"

The boy remained silent before finally nodding.

So he was mute. Gu Qibao pouted, sympathizing with the boy. Perhaps if he could speak, the old woman would not have treated him so poorly earlier.

The boy led her with the lighter to a clay dam in the backyard. He gathered some firewood from the corner of the wall, lit a fire, grabbed a wooden stool, and gestured for Gu Qibao to sit.

Gu Qibao understood. He was suggesting she dry her clothes.

That made sense. She was soaked through and there were no suitable clothes here, drying off was the more practical solution.

Drowning was an unpleasant feeling. If it weren’t for the fact that she was in a strange place, she definitely would have fallen asleep!

Gu Qibao sat down. As the boy turned to leave, she quickly grabbed his clothes, anxiously saying, "Wait!"

The boy turned back towards her.

"It’s Ergouzi, right?" Gu Qibao said sincerely, "I am very thankful that you saved me, but I’m a little scared in this place. Also, my friends must be very worried about me. I have to go back as soon as possible. After my clothes dry, can you take me back?"

The boy looked at her and then solemnly nodded.

Gu Qibao felt a wave of relief. She quickly sat down to dry her clothes, wanting them to dry as quickly as possible so she could return home!

She wondered how far away this place was from Niujia Village, and whether Nangong Ran had become aware of her situation? It was midday when she fell into the river; looking at the sky, it must be afternoon now.

The boy returned to the kitchen to bring Gu Qibao some water and food: a big bowl of coarse grain cereal.

The sight of water made Gu Qibao nauseous, and she had no appetite for the cereal. She waved him off, indicating that she did not want any.

The boy placed the bowl on the ground and sat beside her.

At this moment, the old woman walked over with a pile of clothes, smiling warmly, "Oh, girl, why are you drying yourself by the fire here? Come on, I’ve found some clothes for you. They’re what I wore when I was young and getting married. Quickly try them on to see if they fit."
