Love You for the Rest of My Life

Chapter 278 Finally, We Meet

Chapter 278 Finally, We Meet

She had only had a large bowl of coarse rice porridge in the morning, and she was feeling hungry.

However, Gu Qibao had never imagined that Di Mingjue would visit when she was in the midst of a hustle cooking.

Almost the moment he saw Gu Qibao, Di Mingjue’s eyes turned a bit red. He looked away, feigning nonchalance as he surveyed the surroundings of the house.

Gu Qibao was sitting there dumbstruck, looking at the group of people standing at the door. She even forgot to keep stoking the fire.

They all stood there at the door, wearing bright and handsome clothes, contrasting starkly with the humble surroundings of the house.

Looking at everything inside this house, Di Mingjue felt a stab of pain in his heart.

This place was just too poor!

People say there’s nothing left but the roof tiles when they’re poor. Yet, this family didn’t even have tiles.

The roof was made of thatch, with a layer of thick oilcloth beneath, probably to protect against rain.

The ground was uneven and full of pits, made of dirt.

There were several wooden pillars used to support the roof, all of them wobbly.

The entire room housed only a low table, four long benches, a stove, a pot, a water vat, and a dark cupboard for bowls.

Except for these, there was absolutely nothing else.

The most eye-catching part was the large pile of firewood behind the stove.

Gu Qibao sat beside the firewood pile, the glow from the stove illuminating her pitiful and extremely surprised face stained with traces of smoke.

Damn it! He should not have come!

He should not have seen this. It hurt him like hell.

When had Gu Qibao ever lived in such conditions after she was born?

She probably never dreamed that she would have to live here for a month.

Di Mingzhe was also somewhat surprised by the poverty here. He understood why due to the village head’s explanation that the male head of this household was bedridden.

How could a family without a working member lead a prosperous life?

But it was unavoidable, life was unpredictable and full of pitfalls.

After the male head of the household had been paralyzed, the state could only provide relief, a living allowance, and education expenses for the children. It was impossible for it to shoulder the burdens of the entire family.

This was reality, this was society. Cruel, yet so real.

Di Mingzhe personally went inside to greet the man, whereas Di Mingjue did not move from his spot.

Di Mingzhe didn’t bother with Mingjue’s lack of action. As long as he didn’t cause a scene, he didn’t care. He was here for Gu Qibao after all.

Though he might act slightly obsessively around Gu Qibao, Mingjue was always clear-headed during a crisis.

He was a grown man, the famous third young master of the Di Family. He was not an idiot.

Gu Qibao and Di Mingjue looked at each other, neither spoke, as if they both were stunned.

Nangong Ran, who was cutting vegetables, was so stunned he almost cut his hand. He stared at the two of them, wondering if they could restrain themselves.

It wouldn’t be that bad if they couldn’t restrain themselves, but the gossip would not be nice to hear.

However, Di Mingjue’s visit to the countryside was totally justified.

Fortunately, Nangong Ran had worried for no reason. Both Di Mingjue and Gu Qibao controlled themselves, not falling into each other’s arms with overwhelming love.

After observing Gu Qibao for a while, Di Mingjue finally took a step forward, walking over to her.

Gu Qibao was a little nervous. She stared at Di Mingjue, not knowing what to say.

Her appearance was somewhat pitiful, which made Di Mingjue’s heart ache even more.
