Love You for the Rest of My Life

Chapter 271: Fishing

Chapter 271: Fishing

Already three people had raised their hands without hesitation. If only a couple more volunteered...

Gu Qibao spoke up immediately, "Why are you all in such a rush? If they won’t give us meat, can’t we hunt for it ourselves?"

"What do you mean, Gu Qibao?" Lin Wan asked, puzzled.

Gu Qibao furrowed her brows, "We’re in the mountains, there’s bound to be food. We could go fishing in the river, or maybe even catch a wild rabbit!"

Her proposal shined a light of hope in several students’ eyes. Maybe this was a solution, as unorthodox as it was.

"Exactly!" Bo Chenghe quickly suggested, "There’s a river here, let’s get ready and try to fish. Maybe we can set up traps and catch something."

"You’ve been watching too many TV shows," scoffed one of the tall boys.

"How do you know it won’t work if you haven’t tried it?" Gu Qibao retorted.

Her question rendered him speechless. After pondering on it, the tall boy finally nodded, "Alright, I’ll go along with your plan once. But if we can’t catch any fish or find any meat, I’m refusing to stay here!"

Truth be told, Gu Qibao had never tried fishing before; she didn’t even know if there were any fish in the river.

But with their situation growing dire, it was worth trying. Anything would be better than letting the others leave now.

"Alright." Gu Qibao nodded, "Let’s give it a try."

Finally, after much quarreling, they came to a conclusion. Driven by hunger, they quickly set out to try their hand at fishing.

The three girls also tagged along. Honestly, they too craved some meat.

With high hopes, the group of young men and women arrived at the river and rolled up their trousers, ready to dive in and catch some fish.

Whether it was luck or divine intervention, there were indeed fish in that little river!

They began excitedly hunting but ended up catching nothing.

Not much of a surprise. They were all city kids; fishing was not their strong suit.

But the fact that the river was inhabited was something to be excited about.

Having failed to catch the fish barehanded and having expended a great deal of energy, Bo Chenghe suggested, "Let’s make a fishing rod."

Fishing with a rod seemed more promising than trying to catch fish with their bare hands, so everyone agreed to Bo Chenghe’s proposal.

Thus, the boys ventured into the woods to figure out how to make a fishing rod.

Gu Qibao and Nangong Ran squatted by the river, a flush of red enclosing their eyes.

Nangong Ran sighed, "This was supposed to be a simple experience, just doing some farm work. I didn’t realize how difficult it would be. It’s downright unfair for them not to provide us with meat."

"What choice do we have?" Gu Qibao sighed helplessly, "I thought this would be easy, but it isn’t much better than studying. It might actually be better to stay in school instead."

"But we can’t get good grades either," Nangong Ran said, clearly frustrated, "I didn’t study well before, and now there’s not enough time to catch up. I thought this experience might be an opportunity, but..."

Gu Qibao felt even more pitiful upon hearing this. She held her face in her hands and looked at the calm water surface, her eyes red and misty, "I miss Duke so much."

If Duke Mingjue suddenly appeared at this moment, he would take her to eat lots of delicious food and never let her be wronged.

During her time in the countryside, she had almost become a dark-skinned girl, even her hands had roughened up a bit.

And to make matters worse, the school weirdly took away their cell phones and forbade any family visits. She didn’t even know if she could survive a month of this life.
